Initially, work on the breeding of the cross was carried out by German breeders. They bred the breed of chickens rhodonite-1 and rhodonite-2. They were brought to Russia in 2002 by Sverdlovsk specialists. They bred the third strain of the breed. Today rhodonite (hen of the third version) leads in its productivity of eggs in comparison with other species. For breeding this breed were taken the strongest representatives of the cross from Germany and the United States - brown layers Lohman Brown and cocks of Rhode Island red color.

The preservation of egg-laying in the winter, even in an unheated room, is one of the features that the rhodonite chickens can boast of. The characteristics of the breed presented in this article are positive. Chickens do not require special housing conditions and are suitable for breeding novice poultry farmers. During the breeding season, birds are active and mobile. Their weight is about three kilograms for the rooster and two for the hen. Eggs of this species have a rich brown color. Their weight is about 60 grams.

Breed of hens rhodonite: description

The photo below clearly shows that the chicken and the rooster can be distinguished by external signs immediately after birth. The future layer inherits external data from its parents at the gene level. Usually the chickens are small in size, their torso differs in a convex chest, the head is light, medium in size, with a curved beak.

In adult layers, the body has a light brown color, the plumage is thick, in the neck area it is cast in gold. In the hens, the area around the eyes is darker than the torso; in the rooster, the reverse. White feathers can be observed on the tail and wings.

Adult birds are often confused with grandparents. Rhodonite chickens, the photos of which are presented for viewing, have a small head, a yellow beak with a strip, large red earrings and a leaf-like comb. Gray tail and wings of the same color are tightly pressed to the body. By the nature of the laying hens rhodonite lively, they are characterized by high mobility. They are unpretentious and easily adapt to the cold climate, ideal for breeding in incubators.

Performance

Sexual maturity in chickens comes early, at the age of 4-5 months from birth. Already during this period the young hen begins to lay eggs. During the year, laying hens of the breed rhodonite produce about 300 eggs. The peak of productivity comes in the first half of the bird's life - 1.5 years.

By this age the weight of the hen will reach two kilograms. When the chicken rhodonite reaches two years of age, egg production begins to decline significantly. Increase productivity by another half a year can be, if you carry out the procedure of rejuvenation with a special vaccine.

Content

Rhodonite (chicken) is famous for its stamina. This breed was bred for the purpose of growing on poultry farms. One of the main conditions of detention is the presence of good ventilation in the room. Since rhodonite chickens have a weak incubation instinct, they can be bred at home in the barn. Enough to provide the bird with abundant drink, and the chicken coop - with good ventilation. You can do it yourself by cutting a hole in the wall or use the net. The height of the ceiling in the coop must be at least 1.7 m.

Birds do not like too tight landing, so no more than 20 layers are placed on 10 square meters. The breed breeds even at low temperatures, but there should be no drafts in the hen house, and the air temperature should be lower than -2 ° C. Chicken rhodonite feels comfortable in the heat (up to 28 ° C). Chickens and adult birds have extraordinary vitality.

Coop Organization

It is installed so that the windows face south, and the door faces east, where in winter there will be less snow. On the rear walls of the window are placed at a height of about 1 m from the surface of the earth. The bottom of the chicken coop is covered with moss peat. This will avoid bird disease of the joints.

Newborn chickens are in boxes of boards, the bottom of which is paved with hay or straw. For a small family of 4-5 hens, one box is enough. The place to walk in the hen house is a container filled with sand or a mixture of ashes. Chickens and chickens bathe in this mixture, it helps them get rid of parasites. It adds pebbles, which are used by birds to improve digestion.

Along the side walls at low height are installed gutters, which are racks for wet and dry feeding. To improve egg production, it is necessary to establish good lighting for 12-14 hours a day. Therefore, in the winter, in the morning and in the evening, lamps should be turned on in the shed.

Chickens of rhodonite breed are picky for food, but in addition to animal feed they need vegetables (cabbage, zucchini, pumpkin), fresh grass and grains. The lack of calcium in the body can be replenished with mineral supplements. In addition to the above composition, the main ration includes:

  • concentrated feed
  • mashed potatoes
  • root vegetables (carrots, beets, potatoes),
  • fruits (pears, apples) and bran.

Root vegetables, fruits and vegetables are ground on a coarse grater. Cabbage finely chopped. You can add breadcrumb. All products must be fresh. Do not use loose and moldy vegetables and roots. Add herb to puree. This may be nettle, beet leaves, carrots and other vegetables. Whole or cracked wheat is usually given as a concentrated feed.

Mashed potatoes can be made on fish or meat broth, and sometimes use simple boiled water. Soup can be made from pureed chicken set, which can be bought at almost any supermarket.

During the day, chickens should consume crushed chalk, shell or limestone. To improve digestion, chickens and young hens should be given fine gravel or sand with small stones.

Breeding

Chickens rhodonite - good producers, but not the best mother. In addition, they do not inherit all the best characteristics of their parents. Rhodonite is a hybrid breed obtained by double crossing or blood transfusion.

The hybridization effect appears most clearly in the first generation of birds and is subsequently extinguished. Therefore, despite the fact that the bird bears many eggs, this quality is not inherited. This is the reason for breeding chickens at home is not recommended. Breeding is possible only in an industrial environment.

Rhodonite is the most common hybrid in our country. About 50% of all eggs produced on the Russian market belong to this breed. Today, in the domestic market, you can buy eggs of all three types of hybrid. Most popular - the last two. Currently, the breed of chickens rhodonite-1 is not very popular, since after 18 months its performance is significantly reduced. Chickens of the second and third generation of this deficiency are deprived.

How to make a bird rushing into nests

Sometimes laying hens start laying eggs in different places. To be able to collect them, you should put special liners in the sockets, which should not differ in color and shape from ordinary eggs. To do this, they are cut from wood or plaster. You can take a regular egg, gently break the shell, pour out the contents and fill the free space with melted paraffin.

The presence of a rooster is optional. Laying eggs can be laid without it. However, many farmers are recommended to keep a rooster, the chicken is a gregarious bird, and in its presence it will feel calmer. This will positively affect egg production.

Useful tips

Very valuable rhodonite chickens. Characteristics, reviews about the breed attract novice poultry farmers, and they have a desire to breed this hybrid. However, the breeding procedure requires compliance with certain rules, so the following recommendations should be followed:

  • In the hen house you need to put a container with ashes or sand for bathing chickens.
  • Be sure to add to the diet nettle and quinoa.
  • Nests should be arranged away from the windows, otherwise chickens can catch a cold.
  • Do not abuse dry grain feeds.
  • Put fresh water in the hen house.

A bird of this species is not too expensive. The price of a chicken is in the range of 10-20 rubles. An adult costs 300 rubles. If you buy chickens in bulk, the cost will be significantly lower.

Breed origin

Chickens breed Rhodonite

Back in 2002, Sverdlovsk breeders began an experiment with the goal of breeding an extremely productive breed in terms of egg production, which, however, would be perfectly adapted to the harsh climatic conditions of Russia. The result of all this work was the creation of the hen, which is characterized by high productivity, as well as the ability to hatch and hatch eggs in a cold climate. Breeders of the whole 6 years continued to work, crossing the most different breeds, and by 2008 they finally succeeded in this.

Egg Breed Rhodonite

To create a layer by experts, the most productive crosses were used:

  • German Loman Brown,
  • American Rhode Island.

The successes of breeders were unprecedented, because the new chickens turned out to be truly unique. The main task of the specialists was accomplished: the hens actually retained the ability to be carried even at low temperatures. In winter, the birds were kept in unheated poultry houses, but the result was still excellent.

On a note! Such measures were taken solely for the purpose of the experiment, because originally the breed was bred for housing at poultry farms, and not for the harsh conditions of the street.

External features

If we consider the external features, then we need to once again turn to the "parents" of these chickens. Everything is very simple: the birds are endowed with certain properties depending on whose parental gene is more pronounced. However, the laying hens in most cases have a medium sized head with a yellow beak, which is traced in the center by a yellow stripe.

Chicken Rhodonite

The crest is leaf-shaped and rather large, but it attracts attention, first of all, with its bright red color. Not bad developed and yellow earrings, as you can see for yourself when viewing photos. As for the plumage, it is dense and closely adjacent to the chicken carcass. Feathers have an attractive light brown color, although at the ends of the wings and tail, it gradually turns into a less catchy gray. The skeleton of chickens Rhodonite is the same as that of other representatives of the egg breeds - compact and small. In addition, the backbone is lightweight.

Chickens, age 1.5 months

Interesting! The sex of the chick can be determined already at one day of age. Male fluff is light yellow, and on the head there is a specific dark mark, the areas around the eyes are light. A distinctive feature of females is a light fluff on the head and back, besides the areas around the eyes are darker.

Hens - layers of breed Rhodonite

Most chickens Rhodonite are bred because of their egg production. Rhodonite is an egg hen, they hatch eggs badly, because they have almost no chickens instinct. Rhodonite chickens retain their egg production even in harsh climatic conditions. You can even breed such a breed outside of heated sheds. Layers will carry eggs even in such conditions.

But we must not forget that initially this breed was created for breeding at poultry farms. They are mainly diluted in incubators. But they excellent layers. From about 4 months of age, they begin to lay eggs. And do not require special care, as adapted to the harsh climatic conditions. The only thing that is required from you is to provide purity and normal nutrition. Poor nutrition adversely affects both the quantity and quality of eggs. And eggs from rhodonite are the most sought after.

On average, one hen per year carries up to 300 eggs, which indicates their high productivity. Eggs weigh about 60 grams and have a brown tint, which are very much in demand by buyers. Layers until about 80 weeks of age are the most productive.

Also, the main advantage of the breed is that on the second day you can define a half-film. Chickens have a brown tint, but the head and back of a light tone. The males have a yellow, light tone, but have a brown mark on the head.

Breed description

The hen's weight is about 2 kg, and the weight of the rooster is about three. Outwardly, they are very reminiscent of the breed of Rod Island and Loman Brown. Rhodonite chickens are pretty cute. Have brown plumage, average head size, yellow beak with a brown stripe and a red erect crest.

Although the birds of the Rhodonite breed were bred for factory breeding, they are also an excellent solution for home gardens. They are great for beginners who have just started breeding chickens, since do not require special care. But what we need to know about the care and maintenance of the layers will be discussed below.

Care for cross-rhodonite chickens

Cross-Rhodonite chickens do not require any specially equipped places. The house can be made of any material, whether it is made of concrete, timber or frame. The only thing is that it should be well lit (up to 14 hours a day) and ventilated.

As with all breeds, the place where the layers of Rhodonite breeds are kept is required ventilation hood. To create a hood, it is enough to make a hole in the hen house and tighten it tightly with a grid so that the rodents do not get into. If there is a vent, then its installation is the most effective solution.

Sometimes the layers can carry eggs wherever they want. Can we make them go where they are supposed to? To do this, you can put "fake eggs" on the nests. Such "liners" can be made of plaster, alabaster or paraffin. You can use the eggs themselves. To do this, you must first carefully make a hole in the shell and get rid of the internal mass and fill the shell with paraffin.

Conditions of keeping chickens breed Rhodonite

  • Up to 20 chickens can be kept per 10 square meters.
  • The height of the cage is from 1 m 70 cm to 1 m 80 cm.
  • Rhodonite resistant to temperature fluctuations from -2 to +28 degrees Celsius.
  • There should be no drafts in the place where the chickens of the Rhodonite breed are kept.

Feeders should be organized at ground level. The presence of height at the feeders will eliminate the scattering of food. Drinking bowls need to be set at a height with the growth of the chickens themselves, so that they feel comfortable to drink.

Perches should be set at 1 m. For carrying eggs, you can put separate boxes, covered with straw.

Feeding Chickens Rhodonite

In order for chickens to rush regularly, they need to be fed as best they can. After all, poor feeding can negatively affect the number of eggs. Basic diet chickens Rhodonite includes fresh (winter dried) vegetables and greens, grain, chalk, eggshell, various combined feed, etc.

Calcium is known to form the basis of the diet. The presence of calcium in their diet has a positive effect on the quality of eggs. What does calcium contain?

  1. Chalk (crushed).
  2. Shells (crushed).
  3. Lime.

Prevention of diseases in the breed Rhodonite

For the prevention of skin parasites that are susceptible to all chickens, you can put separate boxes of ash or ground in the hen house. Bathing them prevents the appearance of various parasites on the skin.

It should also be every 2-3 weeks sanitize the coop a solution of lime and water. 2 kg of lime dissolves into a bucket of water and is applied to the walls, floor, and boxes of the chicken coop. Lime can also be replaced by ash.

Breed history

Initially, rhodonites chickens were bred in Germany on the basis of one of the best German breeds - broken brown. Breeders of this country received two types of cross: rhodonite 1 and rhodonite 2. They were brought to Russia in 2002. Thanks to the efforts of the specialists of OAO Sverdlovsky, BCP, another line of these chickens with improved qualities was bred: rhodonite 3.

Today, in the domestic market, you can buy eggs of all these three varieties of cross. The most popular are the last two. Rhodonite 1 really carries a lot of eggs. However, unfortunately, after 18 months, its productivity is significantly reduced. Crosses rhodonite 2 and 3 of this lack are deprived.

Like any other egg breed, rhodonite chickens are distinguished by a lightweight skeleton and great mobility. The main features of this cross include:

  • well developed scallops and earrings,
  • yellow beak with a brown stripe,
  • dense thick feather.

The rhodonite chickens have a dark brown reddish color. The cockerel feather is yellow. On the head they have a small dark spot. The area around the eyes of the hens is colored brown. In males it is white.

Although these chickens were bred mainly for industrial use, they are quite popular with private traders. It's all about their very high productivity, good feed conversion and the ability to quickly adapt to any climatic conditions.

Economic value

At the factories after this period, a special vaccine is poured to the bird, after which the egg production is resumed for the same period.

The weight of the hen breed rhodonite weighs about two kilograms, the males - 3 kg. Eggs of this breed have a rich brown color. Their weight is about 60 grams. In terms of egg production, some breeds are inferior to rhodonites. But not more than a couple of percent. However, they are much better than many egg breeds tolerate cold. In winter, they can be kept in an unheated barn. This will not affect egg production.

Content Features

It is easiest to buy eggs of such a breed as rhodonites chickens at the poultry farm. Very often, companies engaged in breeding poultry, sell and chickens - daily or five days. Incubation is carried out in the usual way. Another advantage of this breed is that chickens and cockerels can be distinguished on the exterior almost immediately after birth.

Both rhodonite chickens and adult birds are distinguished by extraordinary vitality. The safety of chickens of this breed up to 17 weeks is 99%, up to 80 weeks. - 97%. With feed conversion of 1.28 kg per 10 eggs, the yield of the total mass is 22.8-23.3 kg. There is no instinct for incubation.

How to feed

Rhodonites chickens eat absolutely everything. The diet of this bird is practically no different from the "menu" of any other egg hens. Rhodonites are fed mainly with hanks and concentrated feeds. The first may include products such as:

  • root vegetables (carrots, beets, potatoes),
  • vegetables (cabbage, zucchini, pumpkin),
  • fruits (pears, apples),
  • bran,
  • chalk, salt, additives to improve egg production.

Root vegetables, fruits and vegetables fray on a coarse grater. Cabbage finely chopped. You can add bread to the mash. Of course, all products must be fresh. Rotten and moldy vegetables and roots can not be used. Add to the mash and grass. This may be, for example, nettle, quinoa, beet and carrot tops, etc. As a concentrated feed usually give whole or crushed wheat.

Fill up the mash can be fish or meat broth, Sometimes they use simple boiled water. The cheapest way to make a broth is from a ground chicken set, which can be bought in almost any grocery supermarket.

What should be the barn

Any layers whose maintenance is a simple procedure, however, require special room equipment. A poultry house for rhodonites will suit absolutely any - frame, cobbled, made of sleepers, concrete, etc. Heating, as already mentioned, is not necessary to carry out. Sawdust, straw or hay are poured on the floor of the shed. Of course, the chicken coop must be equipped with perches, nests, feeders and drinkers. In the wall of the shed do Laz in the aviary. The size of the latter should be large enough. It is usually enclosed with a net-rabits on the south side of the house.

As for the size, then four chickens should be about a square meter. Of course, the room intended for the maintenance of rhodonites should be dry and well ventilated. Good egg production requires lighting at least 12-14 hours a day. Therefore, the window in the barn must be arranged. In the winter in the mornings and evenings in the barn need to turn on the lamp.

How to make a bird fly in the nests

Sometimes hens rhodonites start laying eggs anywhere. In order to make them rush where it should be, special “liners” should be put in the sockets. Ideally, they should repeat the shape and color of an ordinary egg. They are made of wood, plaster, chalk or alabaster. You can do it easier: take an ordinary chicken egg, carefully break off the shell, pour out the contents and pump in its place melted paraffin. In each nest should be put on one such snag.

Rooster wound is not necessary. Chickens can carry eggs without it. However, many farmers still advise to do it. The hen is a flocking bird, and in the presence of the rooster the hens will feel calmer, which will affect egg production.

Chickens rhodonite: price

It is a bird of this breed is not too expensive. The price of chickens ranges from 10-20 rubles, depending on age. Adult chicken can be purchased for 300 rubles. On the Internet there are offers and wholesale supplies. In this case, you can buy chickens at an even lower cost. For example, when ordering 40 individuals for each will have to pay only about 50 p.

Rhodonites - a hardy breed, productive and does not require increased attention. And although it is impossible to get good chickens from her, for breeding in the backyard she fits very well.

Productivity

Chickens of Rhodonite breed have very high egg production (about 280–300 eggs per year). For a full cycle of 80 weeks, the number of eggs can reach 360. It is worth noting that the highest concentration of dough is in the first one and a half years of the hen’s life, then productivity drops significantly. Chicken starts running already at 4 months of age and reaches the best egg production while gaining two kilograms of weight. The hens of the Rhodonite breed poorly preserved the instinct of brooding, therefore they are not suitable for breeding, but many poultry farmers appreciate them for their high display rates. By weight, the average chickens reach no more than 2.3 kg, and roosters up to 3.5 kg. The average egg weight is 60 grams. Usually the eggs are brown in shell.
