Today, quite a lot of people keep poultry in their area. Hybrid breeds occupy a special place among farmers engaged in breeding chickens. One of those is the breed of redbro chickens, which was bred by crossing Cornish hens with Malayan fighting cocks about 100 years ago by British breeders. Nevertheless, this breed has become widely known far beyond Albion and has become popular among French and American farmers. Let's see what is attractive breed redbro, what characteristics it has, as well as talk about the features of breeding and caring for her.
General information about the breed
It will be very easy for a beginner poultry farmer to confuse this breed with regular hens. This is due to a small number of external differences. The bird has a rather large size and a large head. The plumage is dense, so the redbro chickens are well adapted in regions with cold climates. The bill is not too big, but pronounced. The comb has a bright color and a standard form, as in ordinary layers.
The breed of chickens redbro, the description and photo of which is known to many farmers, has a well-developed muscular system, as evidenced by rolling muscles. Legs quite muscular, large size.
Feathers are red-brown in color. In some cases, you can meet representatives of this breed of white color, but this is extremely rare and is an exception to the rule.
Redbro chickens are very calm and peaceful by nature, so they get along well with other birds. They like to walk and move a lot, so it’s better to keep them in a hen house, not in cages, and also regularly to let out for walking.
Due to dense plumage, chickens tolerate cold well, but it is not recommended that the temperature in the chicken coop fall below seven degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature at which chickens feel very comfortable is 25 degrees Celsius. In all other respects, the bird is unpretentious, so breeding it is easier than many other breeds.
What type of farm is best for breeding?
To date, the breed of chickens redbro, the description of which corresponds to all the characteristics, can be bred in industrial conditions and in home gardens. This breed is universal, so it feels great in any conditions. Mostly redbro chickens are bred to produce eggs. But this breed is valued not only for its egg production, but also for meat.
In the United States and many European countries redbro bred in large quantities. At the same time, farmers closely monitor the purity of the breed, which in itself is a rather laborious process.
For any farmer, the characteristics of the breed are very important. And this is not surprising, because the quality of the bird is very important. So that beginning poultry farmers could decide on whether it is worth raising chickens to redbro, characteristics should be considered in more detail.
To breed this breed is very profitable. An adult bird can reach in its weight about four kilograms already in the fifth month. Therefore, in addition to a large number of eggs, you can get a good source of meat.
One adult chicken carries about 160 eggs annually. However, this is not the limit, as some individuals, with the right content and quality diet, can produce up to 300 eggs. The shell has a white or cream color, and the weight of the egg on average reaches 60 g.
Daily feed intake
Depending on age, the chickens need the following amount of feed:
- from 14 days - every day about 150 g of food,
- 21-day chicken consumes about 200 g,
- at the age of 1 month, you need about 220 g of feed,
- one and a half month old bird eats up to 250 g daily,
- a bird aged two months consumes daily up to 280 g of feed,
- a half year old individual needs about 350 g every day.
The amount of feed listed above is based on the age of the individuals. It is necessary chickens redbro for normal growth and egg production. Therefore, these recommendations should be followed.
How much feed do you need per egg?
To chickens normally rushed, they need to eat normally. At the same time, to obtain high quality eggs of an adult individual, 50 g of grain, 30 g of wet mash, 100 g of boiled potatoes, 10 g of cake and flour, 100 g of milk, and also some salt and chalk are needed. In addition, it is very important to regularly replace water in drinkers. For chickens of this breed is always needed clean drinking water.
In our country, redbreed chickens, whose photos look just wonderful, are not divided into species. However, European farmers breed this breed not only for eggs, but also for meat. For example, in France there are two varieties - M and C. The first are bred by crossing the breed of redbro and ordinary layers, and the second - with the roosters of this breed.
To get healthy and strong chickens, it is very important to provide them with good nutrition, rich in vitamins and healthy substances. Newly hatched chickens should regularly receive milk, cottage cheese and greens. In addition, you should regularly add to the diet hard-boiled and chopped egg. In more adult age feeding wet mashki is allowed.
Adults enjoy eating chopped vegetables and fruits with pleasure. It is equally important that chickens eat small stones, chalk, ashes and shells. To increase the strength of the shell, you need to add potatoes, silage fodder and flour of coniferous trees to the daily ration of poultry.
Redbro chickens can be kept in a regular chicken coop, in which there is enough free space required to move the birds. It is also important to provide the hens with the required number of perches, drinkers and feeders. In addition, it is necessary to build containers for ash and sand, so that the bird can take dry baths, helping to get rid of parasites.
This breed is distinguished by its cleanliness, so it is recommended to clean the chicken coop at least once a week, replacing straw flooring.
Redbro chickens are highly resistant to various diseases, but the implementation of periodic vaccination and disinfection of the house will be superfluous. This is very important because the bird will be indoors most of the time.
A 2% soda solution, 3% formalin solution, or the same creolin solution is usually used to treat the chicken coop.
It is recommended to lime the ceiling and floor, after which you need to leave the room for one day for airing. Immediately after whitewashing, it is forbidden to run the bird.
Newly hatched chicks should be placed in a separate room in which the air temperature should be maintained at 33 degrees Celsius.
Diseases and their prevention
Redbro chickens, whose characteristics and photos look more attractive than some other breeds, have a lot in common with their appearance and flesh with broilers, but there are many advantages, in particular, resistance to various diseases. Among the main can be identified:
- Typhus Very dangerous disease, a symptom of which is a disorder of the digestive system. Chickens usually lose their appetite, begin to have loose stools, body temperature rises and weakness is observed. If the sick chicken is not isolated in time, then there is a chance of infection of the entire population, since typhoid fever is transmitted by airborne droplets. Antibiotics are used to treat infections.
- Coccidiosis Transmitted through parasites by direct contact. The main symptoms are diarrhea, fever and apathy. To combat parasites use special drugs prescribed by a veterinarian. The medicine is given to chickens along with water or food.
- Pasteurellosis. Chickens redbro, the description of which fully satisfies domestic and foreign farmers, suffer from this disease very often. The disease can be recognized by the change in color of the scallop and auricles. In addition, in birds, the activity decreases markedly, the body temperature rises, and mucous secretions from the sinuses appear. The treatment is carried out by drugs of the sulfonamide group. Together with the use of drugs should be processed house.
- Salmonellosis. If time does not vaccinate, then the disease can completely mow all the livestock. Among the main symptoms can be identified weakness, refusal to eat, loose stools, cessation of growth and swelling in the eye area. The main cure for salmonellosis is furazolidone, which is added to water. The duration of treatment is 10 days.
The above diseases are characteristic not only of redbro chickens, whose photos look very attractive, but also of other breeds of chickens. However, it is worth noting that this breed is much less susceptible to these diseases.
Chickens redbro: advantages and disadvantages of the breed
Among the main advantages of this breed are the following:
- high survival rate
- tasty and healthy meat,
- excellent egg production
- good weight gain
- attractive appearance.
The main disadvantage is the similarity with ordinary layers, so when buying chickens you should be very careful, because many sellers use this and do not always sell what they want to beginner poultry farmers.
Reviews of poultry farmers about redbreed chickens are rather contradictory, but most of them are positive. Many say that this breed is very similar to broilers. Meat has good taste, and egg production is at a fairly high level. However, in order for chickens to grow up healthy, develop normally, and give a sufficient number of eggs, the chicken coop should be kept clean. If you make periodic processing of the house, then no diseases will arise in the bird.
This breed was bred by English breeders for the sake of obtaining a large number of eggs and tasty meat in a short period of time. In addition, redbro is valued for its high resistance to various diseases, as well as its good adaptability to the harsh climate. But be that as it may, the chickens of this breed require proper care and a proper diet. If you observe all the necessary conditions for their comfortable existence, then good meat and a sufficient number of eggs to poultry farmers are guaranteed.
Redbrough chickens are representatives of universal hybrids bred to improve productivity and species characteristics that combine the best qualities of several breeds. In other words, these crosses are capable of producing a sufficient amount of both meat and eggs at high egg production rates (up to 300 eggs per year) and attaining great weight in just 5-6 months (Figure 1).
Figure 1. Typical representatives of the breed
Given the unpretentiousness of the breed to the conditions of detention and high resistance to disease, Redbrough chickens have proven to be very cost-effective for breeding both in private households and on an industrial scale.
The origin and description of the breed
The Redbro hybrid was bred in the UK more than 100 years ago as a result of the crossing of English Cornish birds with Malayan fighting cocks.
Note: Redbrough cross-overs are most popular in the USA and France, where the largest chicken breeding facilities of this breed are located. The breed is represented by two varieties: Redbro S and Redbro M (Figure 2).
Distinctive features of the Redbro M variety are:
- Big head
- Thick, strong, widely spaced legs,
- Powerful rolling muscles
- Well developed tarsus,
- Red plumage,
- Leafy (comb) comb,
- Bright color earlobes,
- Bright red comb
- Strong medium wings
- The tail is short, decorated with long feathers.
The Redbro S variety is different from the previous bare red neck without feather cover.
Redbro chickens are endowed with a livable and calm character, which allows them to be kept together with other birds. This breed is freedom-loving, so the chicken coop must have access to free range.
Characteristics of weight and productivity
Individuals Redbro have a high weight. Thus, the mass of adult chickens can reach 3 kg, and roosters - 4.5 kg. At the same time the birds reach their maximum weight at the age of about six months with the consumption of conventional feed. Therefore, many breeders breed them for the sake of obtaining tender meat with excellent taste.
Redbro chickens are distinguished by precocity and begin to be born at the age of 5 months. With regard to egg production, on average, one adult chicken is able to carry up to 160 eggs per year, although some layers have a figure of about 300 eggs per year. The weight of each egg is from 60 to 70 grams, and its shell is painted white (light beige color).
Feeding and keeping of Redbro chickens
To achieve high rates of productivity it is important to monitor the nutrition of chickens. Since Redbro are hybrids, most of their diet should be special feed for broilers. However, it is also necessary to supplement the diet with fresh herbs, vegetables, mineral supplements. The latter help to form a strong shell, and their lack affects both the egg-laying indices and the general health of the chicken (Figure 3).
Figure 3. Features of feeding on the run and in the house
The most important among the minerals is calcium, which is contained in large quantities in the chalk, shell rock, limestone. Therefore, it is so important to ensure free access for the bird to the listed substances. In addition, chickens of this breed prefer wet mash based on meat or fish broth, which should be included in the diet 4-5 times a week.
The norms of feed per day
To ensure proper nutrition using mixed feed, you should adhere to the following consumption rates depending on the age of the bird:
- Individuals aged from two to three weeks - 100-150 g per day,
- Three-week chicken - 180-200 g of feed,
- Monthly chicken - not less than 200-220 g per day,
- A bird at the age of 5-6 weeks - 230-240 grams,
- Teenager, age 8 weeks - 250 grams,
- Semi-annual chicken - 300-350 grams.
To achieve a high egg production rate, an adult hen should consume the following amount of nutrients per day:
- Not less than 50 g of grain,
- 30 g wet mash,
- 100 grams of boiled potatoes (vegetables)
- 100 g of milk
- On 10 g of cake and hay flour,
- A few pinches of chalk and salt.
In this case, the presence of a permanent source of clean water. The ratio of dry feed and water is 1: 1.7, that is, for 1 kg of feed, birds need to provide 1.7 liters of water.
The Redbro chicken house should be spacious, light and meet the following requirements (Figure 4):
- Ceiling height not more than 180 cm
- 10 sq.m. sex should be allocated for the maintenance of 20 individuals
- The thickness of the roosts should be no more than 7 cm,
- The depth of the laying nests should be not less than 35 cm, and the height should be not less than 30 cm,
- Hay, straw, wood chips,
- The presence of the required number of feeders and drinkers,
- Capacities filled with ashes or sand intended for dry bathing by a bird for the sake of preventing the occurrence of parasites should become an obligatory attribute.
Cleaning the house should be done at least 1 time per week with full or partial replacement of litter to dry. In addition, it is recommended to carry out works on the premises disinfection using a 2% caustic soda solution, 3% formalin solution or 3-5% p-creolin solution beforehand (even before settling chickens). The ceilings and walls of the coop are best to lime and leave for a day for airing. Only after all the preparatory procedures, you can move the chicken to the house.
Figure 4. Arrangement of the chicken coop and walking for birds
With regard to temperature, the temperature in the coop should not fall below +2 degrees, even in the cold season. If it is impossible to maintain the necessary indicators in a natural way, it is necessary to use artificial heating.
Note: At the same time, it is important not to overheat the birds in the summer. In the warm season, the indoor temperature should not exceed +27 degrees.
Particular attention is paid to the content of chickens. So, they are kept in a separate room at a temperature of +33 degrees. No less important for chickens is the constant access of fresh air. To do this, in the hen house should be equipped with a window, protected by a fine mesh. Along with airing, birds should be protected from drafts, which can be detrimental to the inhabitants of the house.
Cultivation of hens of breed Redbro
Redbro chickens are distinguished by a high survival rate of young stock, which is about 90%. Это происходит благодаря высокому материнскому инстинкту наседок, которые без проблем высиживают яйца. Именно поэтому разведение породы является столь выгодным.
Note: However, it is worth knowing that in the second generation Redbro chickens are not capable of producing a pure breed: the hatched chickens will not grow so rapidly and will not be able to be more productive in the future.
Breeding chickens can be done with an incubator. In this case, large eggs of the same size should be selected, with no visible defects in the form of roughness, growths or cracks (Figure 5).
Applying an incubator, you should follow these recommendations:
- It is best to place the eggs in the incubator in the evening so that the predicted chickens hatch out during the day or evening.
- From 1 to 11 days of development of eggs should be kept at a temperature of +39 degrees and a humidity of 75%.
- Turning eggs in the incubator trays should occur every two hours.
- From 11 to 18 days the temperature of the content should be lowered by half a degree, and the humidity should be 50%.
- In the period from 18 to 21 days the temperature of the environment is lowered to 37.5 degrees with the same level of humidity, and all ventilation ducts open.
For the full development of the young, he needs good nutrition. Thus, Redbro's day-old chicks should consume fresh milk, cottage cheese and finely chopped greens, hard boiled and finely chopped egg. In the diet of grown chickens begin to include dry and wet mash.
Among the advantages of the breed redbro called:
- Fattening propensity
- High egg production
- Dietary meat
- High survival rate of young
- The ability to gain weight quickly
- Resistance to various diseases
- Unpretentious maintenance and care
- Attractive appearance.
Although Redbro chickens are highly immune, they are also sometimes susceptible to certain infectious and parasitic diseases, as well as diseases caused by poor conditions or feeding errors.
Among infectious diseases, salmonellosis, pullorosis and pasteurellosis are most common (Figure 6). Salmonellosis can be transmitted in various ways. Its signs are loss of bird appetite, constant thirst, swelling in the area of the cloaca, joints and peritoneum. This disease is transmitted to humans through the consumption of infected eggs. The treatment is carried out with the use of furazolidone or streptomycin.
Pulloz (typhoid) is transmitted by air, affecting the bird's stomach and causing frothy droppings, decreased activity and poor appetite. The young growth is especially subject to this disease, the percent of which survival rate makes only 30%. The disease is treated with biomycin and furazolidone. Similar symptoms have coccidiosis, in the case of which the disease birds become depressed. It is treated with furagin, ashes and cokedine.
Pasteurellosis, characterized by blue scallop, great thirst and loss of appetite, is the worst treated. It is very important to start treatment at an early stage, since subsequently this disease is almost invincible. In therapy, sulfametazine or norsulfamethazine preparations are used.
Figure 6. Symptoms of infectious diseases: 1 - salmonellosis, 2 - pullorosis, 3 - pasteurellosis
Among non-communicable diseases affecting individuals, dyspepsia (indigestion), goitre atonia, vitamin deficiency and bronchopneumonia are called. As a rule, these diseases occur in violation of conditions of detention and malnutrition. Thus, the dyspepsia of young animals is the result of a sharp or too fast transfer to the coarse food of an adult diet. The disease is manifested by diarrhea with undigested food particles, high fever and dense bird belly. To eliminate these symptoms, it is necessary to balance the diet according to age. Sometimes, when the feed is crushed insufficiently finely, an atony of the goiter occurs, manifested in its obstruction due to the accumulation of food masses. This condition is dangerous to the bird, as it can be fatal. Therefore, you must manually empty the goiter, dripping some oil into it and making a light massage.
Layers that are in cages without the possibility of free-range and succulent fodder are most often subjected to beriberi due to lack of vitamins and minerals, which leads to baldness, weight loss and lethargy of the bird. Treatment of beriberi involves supplementing the diet with missing elements. Be aware that a weakened bird is more exposed to negative environmental factors than a healthy one. Therefore, with a sharp temperature drop or hypothermia, bronchopneumonia may occur, a condition in which the breathing of birds becomes heavy and frequent, and mucus is formed in the beak. Treatment is possible with the use of antibiotics: penicillin or terramycin. Parasitic diseases of chickens are caused by helminths of various species, trematodes, down and perojedas. Parasitic diseases are treated with drugs that have a targeted effect on the disease-causing organism.
An important point in the fight against disease is their prevention. First of all, we are talking about maintaining cleanliness in the hen house and a good diet, which implies control over the balance of the feed and its quality. In addition, it is recommended to vaccinate birds and disinfect the chicken coop. It is also important to monitor the cleanliness of the water and not to allow litter to enter it.
The video shows how best to keep young Redbro chickens at home.
Redbro has a large body size and well-developed musculature. Muscles throughout the body are clearly visible and palpable under the feathers. The plumage has a dark red color, which in some places can turn into a tan. The head of the birds is small, round shape. The crest has a leaf-like shape and medium size. Color and scallop, and earrings (they are large, clearly visible) - bright red, almost crimson.
Sometimes you can find redbro with white plumage, but this indicates deviations in the gene pool. It is not worth rejecting such birds, but it is not recommended to get offspring from them.
The main distinctive, corporate, sign of red broilers - strong, powerful legs. The limbs are widely spaced, have well developed tarsus. The toes are mobile and strong, which is necessary for maintaining the balance of a heavy carcass.
Advantages and disadvantages
Breed of redbro chickens has a number of significant advantages:
- quick weight gain
- large yield of tasty dietary meat,
- a significant percentage of the survival of the young,
- good egg production
- unpretentiousness in nutrition.
However, red broilers also have disadvantages. These include, first of all, weak immunity and frequent diseases. These birds withstand infection, but their productivity drops by more than 40%. The appearance of the breed is also problematic - it can be easily confused with simple outbred chickens. These facts are used by unscrupulous sellers.
The temperament of these birds can be attributed to a number of their advantages.
They are indecent, calmly experiencing a change of place, weather conditions, they easily make contact with a person (this greatly simplifies the process of leaving). Unlike most broilers, this variety is very active and freedom-loving, does not tolerate cultivation in cramped cages or small chicken coops.
This breed was obtained relatively recently, which is the reason for its unpopularity. However, every year an increasing number of farmers pay attention to this productive type of poultry. The historical homeland of the cross is Great Britain, however, work on the improvement of the species was carried out (and is carried out today) in France and the USA. In these countries, they are engaged in the most extensive breeding of redbro, organizing whole farms on their basis.
The main characteristic of any kind of domestic animals is productivity. Like most hybrid species, these indicators are very attractive in redbird chickens. Red broiler allows you to get a record amount of meat products in a short time. In this case, chickens are actively rushing, which significantly increases the profitability of their content. It is worth adding to all this the fact that the productivity remains high even with a change in food supply, breeding conditions, during periods of molting.
The breed of redbro was bred for the purpose of obtaining meat, that is, it was conceived as a broiler. However, upon completion of the work, scientists received a highly productive poultry meat and egg direction. It is advantageous to keep a meat farm on the basis of a red broiler herd - on average, the weight of the rooster is 4-4.5 kg, and the hen is 2.5-3 kg. The yield of the finished product is about 60%. The early maturity of the breed should also be noted. Roosters are ready for slaughter at the age of 3-4 months.
Egg production rates
Redbro shows excellent egg production levels for broiler birds. On average, for one year, one layer brings 160-170 eggs of medium size. With constant maintenance of favorable conditions, this figure can reach 200-220 eggs. The weight of one egg is 60-75 grams. Egg production of chickens by grinding redbro is distinguished by a bright orange yolk, a durable white or slightly yellowish shell.
According to farmers, it is necessary to spend about 220 grams of feed (cereals, potatoes, oil cakes, herbs and grass meal) to get one egg.
Flaying the hens of this breed does not cause the farmer much trouble, as they are quite unpretentious to the conditions. The most significant factors for them are air temperature and cleanliness of the premises. Support it is necessary especially in the cold season. As for hygiene, the redbro is extremely clean, cleaning the hen house is carried out once a week at least. It is also recommended to carry out a monthly disinfection and disinsection of the premises and the equipment used (feeders, drinkers).
Coop and walking
For such large birds as a redbro a large area is needed, otherwise conflicts may occur between the individuals. The area of the chicken coop is determined at the rate of 1 square meter for 2-3 birds. It is necessary to exclude the possibility of occurrence of drafts, to carry out lighting (the light is maintained 10-12 hours a day) and ventilation.
This breed implies a local content. Choose a strong breed of wood for roost, the thickness of the pole should be at least 6 * 8 cm, otherwise it will not sustain the weight of large broilers. The height of the lower perch should not be less than 0.7 meters. Also, chickens need warm closed nests. The flooring can be earthen or concreted, but care must also be taken of natural bedding. Use chopped straw or chopped wood bark for quality.
For redbro the length of perches is calculated on 25-30 cm per individual. Auxiliary facilities for lifting the pole is not required.
Walking in the warm season allows you to maintain the physical shape of the birds and avoid obesity. Next to the chicken coop, organize a courtyard surrounded by fences at least 1.8-2 meters high. Walking is acceptable up to cold temperatures of -10 degrees, at lower temperatures you should not let the birds out of the room.
For a quick weight gain and good egg production, it is important to follow the correct diet. For fattening, combined start-growth-finish feed mixtures are suitable. The daily consumption of food depends on the age of the birds:
- 1-2 weeks - 100-150 grams
- 3 put on - 160-200 g
- month - 200-220,
- 5-6 weeks - 230-250 gr,
- 7-8 weeks - 250-290 grams
- adult livestock - 350-400 gr.
The composition of the feed mixture should include:
- whole grains (oats, wheat, barley),
- dairy products (cottage cheese),
- sunflower cake,
- boiled potatoes,
- vegetable and fruit production waste,
- fish flour,
- mineral supplements (chalk, salt, shells).
In summer, 1/3 of all food is replaced with succulent pasture.
All young animals from the age of birth to 3 weeks should be separated from the main livestock. For chickens it is necessary to maintain the air temperature not lower than 27-30 degrees Celsius. In the first week of life in a cage with chickens supported round the clock coverage. The chopped eggs should include chopped boiled eggs, millet, low-fat cottage cheese. Starting from the second week, feed and mineral supplements are allowed. Young animals should be provided with a constant supply of clean drinking water. To the general population, birds that have reached the age of 1 month are planted.
For redbros, the most common diseases are salmonellosis and coccidiosis. Vaccination against these diseases should be mandatory in the first week of life. No less scavenged and characteristic for broilers typhus, quickly affecting livestock. Vaccination from it is not provided, in case of infection, contact your veterinarian for the appointment of special antibiotics. The best way of prevention is to maintain the cleanliness of the premises and timely veterinary monitoring of bird health.
To get rid of blood-sucking insects, install a dry wood ash bath.
Before you buy chickens, you must carefully prepare in advance the room where they will be kept, equipment, as well as a place for walking. The old litter with residues of litter must be removed, the dust and equipment removed from the inventory and equipment, and then washed and disinfected with a 3 or 5 percent solution of soda ash. Ceilings and walls must be whitened with fresh 20% lime. After it dries out, after about 12 hours it is necessary to air the room well. When spring comes, walking should be leveled and covered with sand with a layer of about 5 cm.
Now Redbro chickens have become very popular among domestic farmers. The point, of course, is good productivity, as well as the relative simplicity of the content, since they are in many ways similar to Russian species of poultry. As mentioned above, Redbro perfectly adapts to our climate. In addition, as shown by the long-term practice of breeding them, the hens quickly gain weight on our feeds than on foreign ones that contain protein feed.
Experts advise that it is better to choose Redbro for breeding, and not broilers. The fact is that the latter have too poor health and they need constant vaccinations and antibiotics. In addition, they consume too much feed. Redbro - chickens that are also rapidly gaining weight, but they are strong and resistant to various diseases, so they practically do not need any vaccinations or antibiotics. In addition, gaining fast weight, they require less feed than broilers.
For the birds to be healthy, good ventilation is necessary. The easiest way out is to make a window leaf. The second option is to cut a vent in the wall and cover it with a frequent net to prevent rodents from entering it.
The chicken coop must be light, clean, warm and dry, its height is not more than 1.8 m. As for the temperature, it can vary between + 2-27 С. The presence of drafts is generally unacceptable. In a hen house with an area of 10 m², it is not recommended to contain more than 20 birds. Indoors, the door should be located on the east side, and the window - on the south.
In the house on the back wall make roosts. They can be made from planed wooden bars no more than 5-7 cm thick. It is also necessary to equip the nests. For this you can use wooden boxes. The width of the nest should be about 30, and the depth - 35 cm. From the middle of it lay out dry clean hay, straw or wood chips.
It is no secret that a complete and balanced diet in many ways helps to increase the productivity of poultry. Redbro - chickens that adapt well to feed. Adult birds in their diets may have a variety of feed available in private households - grain, greens, vegetables, etc. In addition, they need to be given crushed chalk and crushed eggshell. But the best option for feeding is still full and already balanced ready-made feed. From the 1st to the 8th week of life it is recommended to give PK-2, and from the 8th to the 20th week - to give PK-4.
Like all breeds of domestic hens, Redbro - chickens that need special feeding. For the formation of a good shell they need a large amount of minerals. Their lack of poultry can negatively affect the quality of eggs. They can be obtained with a very thin shell or without it. In addition, it will inevitably lead to a decrease in egg production. Layers need calcium. It can be either crushed shell or ground limestone. Mineral dressing should always be in small feeders and in the place where the chickens would have constant access to it.
Care and maintenance
This breed is hardy, easily accepts adverse conditions. Birds quickly become accustomed to low air temperatures and feel well with them. On range, they withstand temperatures down to -5 degrees.
This breed of walking type, therefore, an aviary is necessary. Poultry farmers noticed that walking has a positive effect on the taste of meat.
