More recently, the term "chinchilla" was associated in pet lovers with the image of a bizarre and affectionate rodent, however, through the efforts of breeders, the breed of cats of the same name was obtained. These cats, due to their aristocratic appearance, win the heart at first sight, and as all British people have, they have an easygoing and calm temper. You can read the article "British Fold cat: the history of the appearance and distinctive features."

Silver chinchilla

It was from this breed that animal lovers began their acquaintance with unique and extraordinarily beautiful cats. In particular, a silver chinchilla cat whose price ranges from a few hundred to a thousand dollars differs from other representatives of the breed in its unusual coat color.

According to the standards, the color of a silver chinchilla can be with black backlighting only in the eighth part.

This color is flawless, and the presence of any stains is considered a drawback and can lead to problems when specialists confirm the breed.

If the cat is painted more intensely, then it is attributed to the silver-shaded breed. In such animals, wool may be one-third colored black and look more contrasting than classic silver chinchillas, which have a light black veil on the back, head, tail and legs.

For the silver cat of the chinchilla breed, there are dark paw pads, black edging of mucous membranes and green color of the iris. At the same time, the standard assumes that a silvery shaded cat may have a yellow caramel tint. Such representatives of the breed are called puterami.

Golden chinchilla

Among the representatives of their breed, the golden chinchilla cat, the price of which is negotiated with the breeders, is distinguished by a rare coat color. The rims of the mucous in representatives of this breed are not black, but richly brown, and the wool has a delicate apricot shade, supplemented with a dark undercoat on the legs, torso, head and tail.

Common features for representatives of various types of chinchillas

Despite the differences in color, the British chinchilla cat, regardless of coat color, has a peculiar body structure. Representatives of this elite breed are characterized by large rounded eyes, pronounced cheeks, a dense texture of wool and an average head size with small, rounded ears. The nose of chinchillas is short and wide.

As for body build, the chinchilla cat is distinguished by its average body size, squat shape, even back and powerful short legs, on which there are tufts of wool between the fingers. The tail has a short length.

Habits of chinchillas

Before you find out how much a British chinchilla cat costs, and to get a pet in an elite cattery, you should familiarize yourself with its temper and habits. These cats are characterized by a very calm and quiet disposition. Chinchillas lead an inactive lifestyle and can happily spend days in the house lying on their crib. Cats require constant care and attention, they are affectionate and tied to their owners. Animals need a permanent community of people and will become real favorites in any family.

Chinchillas are ideal for apartments or houses, since living in an enclosed space will not bring them discomfort. Also, the owner of the cat will be relieved of the inconvenience - the beautiful animal hair does not shed much, and daily combing will help reduce the amount of wool on carpets, furniture and clothing of the owners.

Despite its sweetness, the cat is distinguished by the desire for independence. Therefore, in the house should be equipped with a corner in which the cat will feel safe and at ease. This can be a corner with a sleeping place, a claw and toys acquired at a pet store.

Cat from an early age easily adapts to the living conditions. Owners will not be difficult to teach him to the tray and solve these a number of hygienic issues.

Socialization of the animal also occurs in the early period. The cat gets used to the society of people and does not allow to release its claws in cases of irritation or bad mood. The cat, which is not satisfied with something, will simply move to another room in the house and will not frighten the owners with a manifestation of aggression and hissing.

Care features

Despite the rather thick wool, these cats rarely form mats, and owners can count on simple care and affordable maintenance of cats. For example, a British gold chinchilla cat whose price can reach thousands of dollars needs to be brushed periodically to remove excess undercoat. It is recommended to use special brushes for this procedure, which will have to be reached at least twice a week. To make the wool shine, for washing you should purchase a special shampoo recommended by the breeder.

Chinchilla purebred cat whose price also depends on the level of compliance with the standards of the breed, has good health. However, the breed is characterized by eye problems, which are triggered by the particular structure of the lacrimal glands. In order to avoid suppuration and excessive tearing, the owner may contact the veterinarian and, according to his prescription, use tetracycline ointment or a weak solution of boric acid to prevent it.

Cat diet

Like other members of the elite breeds, the British chinchilla cat whose price is quite high, needs good quality food. These can be holistic feeds with a full or balanced composition, as well as super-premium feeds.

It is also recommended to periodically include in the diet offal - boiled kidneys, liver and heart. Dairy products are permissible in the diet, but they should be properly dosed. A small proportion of the daily food of an animal should be grains, fats and oils.

In addition to the British, there is a Persian and Scottish cat chinchilla, which has completely different roots. Despite the differences in appearance, all chinchillas have an excellent exterior and calm temper, so they are very popular among buyers.

The history of amazing breed

Almost all breeds of domestic cats from England have a rather long and rich history, because of such a developmental characteristic, all pets have remarkable health and a friendly calm character. As a rule, they were born on the territory of the maritime country, but sometimes separate breeding was carried out on the territory of other European countries.

By the end of the XIX century, many of the English breeds were finally formed, standards were set, even exhibitions were held. Officially, in the catalogs of international organizations for cat breeds, English aristocrats appear at the beginning of the 20th century. At the same time, the universal recognition and love of many people came.

British chinchillas got a great coat. Perfect soft undercoat combines with an incredibly beautiful color. Their British chinchillas received from their ancestors - Persian chinchillas and other cats with the same color of the fur coat (see all photos of the Persian chinchilla).

However, the breeders decided not to stop there. The eye color was not perfect, alternating in kittens from green-turquoise to yellow-green. At first it was decided to cross already existing chinchillas with cats with green-eyed tabbies.

However, because of this, the coat color of chinchillas suffered greatly - there appeared characteristic spots and stripes that spoiled the monotony and purity of the fur. Later, chinchillas of different generations began to cross each other, occasionally adding Persians.

In addition to the British silver chinchilla, cats of this breed in England bred a unique golden color. The whole process proceeded along roughly the same principle, the only difference being that for this purpose, the brightest representatives bred before that were chosen.

The main difficulty was that the gene carrying the golden hue of the hairs, still obtained from the Persians, had to be identified and supported.

The color of the British chinchilla is different, among the main and generally accepted:

  • Classic silver.
  • Gold.
  • Cream.
  • Ticked (or extinguished).
  • Smoky.

Also there are quite interesting, gaining popularity colors of British fur coats:

  • Tortoiseshell (distinguished by a special variety of colors, patterns and shades).
  • Bicolor (white in combination with alternative looks spectacular).
  • Tabby.
  • Marble (today one of the most expensive colors).
  • Harlequin ("mask" or "tie" alternative color).
  • Cinnamon and Faun.

The pride of the English chinchillas are their beautiful emerald eyes. According to the criteria of international exhibitions, in cats of this breed it may be yellow, but only in combination with black or dark smoky color. Almost all chinchillas adorn dark outlines around the eyes, which gives them even more expressiveness.

The light color of the fur coats of this breed of cats is usually combined with dark (black, dark lilac and gray, the lilac Briton looks especially beautiful) with paw pads and spout.

In golden British chinchillas, the entire coat is painted in a golden color. The back, sides, and tail are slightly darker than the main color, and the tip of the chin, neck and abdomen are peach.

British chinchillas have a remarkably developed musculature, a strong enough wide neck. The representatives of this breed have a smooth back of medium length, and the chest is also well built. Paws of chinchillas are powerful, rounded hips. In addition, these cats have a thick tail with a rounding at the very tip.

The males have very big and round cheeks, by which they are very easy to recognize. And the main treasure of British chinchillas is the big, expressive eyes of round shape. They are planted not very deep at a short distance from each other.

The nature and habits of chinchilla

Breeders characterize the behavior of the seals of this wonderful breed as true English. British chinchillas are calm, keep themselves confidently and with dignity, and good manners, as if inherited. They are easy to teach all the rules of behavior in the house. Even a small kitten will quietly master the tray, never wake up the owners in the morning, but wait patiently for their awakening.

British chinchillas get along well with everyone who lives with them. The cat treats children calmly, does not show aggression and especially does not use claws and fangs. Even if the child is too imposing their attention, the British chinchilla will simply go to a more peaceful place.

A cat of this breed will not tolerate the humiliation of its dignity, an attempt on its freedom. And strong obstinacy is inherent in these animals.

For the British chinchilla, you can choose a natural type of feeding. Be sure to include the following products:

  • Sea fish.
  • Lean meat
  • Milk products.
  • Bird.
  • Cereal.
  • Butter.
  • Fresh vegetables.

If you want to feed your cat with factory feed, be sure to consider the unique physiological characteristics of the pet (pregnancy, weight, health, age, etc.).

Recommended two or three meals a day. Sometimes add the necessary vitamins and minerals to the cat's diet.

For gentle British chinchillas need a little care. Breeders recommend regular exercise for cats. The British will be happy to participate in outdoor games. Be sure to place the home kogtetochku.

Combing the fur of these cats is necessary at least once a week, and pets with long thick hair - three times. It will not be superfluous to process the British coat with the help of special bleaching shampoos and conditioners, they improve the quality and color of the cover.

Sometimes check cat ears. If necessary, clean them gently with a cotton swab dipped in warm water or a herbal solution. To care for your teeth, sometimes give solid food to your pet.

The history of the British chinchilla

The very first kitten of the British breed with an unusual fur coat appeared on the territory of Great Britain in 1882. Kitty Shinny was born as a result of a cross between a Persian cat and a smoky British color. Further systematic breeding work on the stabilization of an interesting color led to the appearance in 1889 of a cat named Silver Lambkin, who is considered the official ancestor of British chinchillas. It was he who later became the winner and champion of numerous international cat shows.

The ancestor of all British chinchillas is considered to be a cat named Silver Lambkin.

Swedish princess Victoria has greatly contributed to the rise in popularity of British chinchillas. She had a special weakness for them and kept her in her palace. Devotees supported her love for unusual plush cats.

For some time, breeders tried to achieve a bright emerald green eye color in chinchilla cats, crossing them with other green-eyed, uniformly colored breeds. But the influx of foreign blood had an extremely negative effect on the coat color of the offspring received, so further work was carried out only by intrabreeding with a rare addition of Persian blood.

At first, only silver chinchilla was recognized.

A little later, the result of a long and painstaking selection was the appearance of a golden chinchilla color cat. She was bred on the basis of the already stabilized silver chinchilla. At first, only blue (silver) color was recognized. The breed standard was approved only in 1980, the CFA (International Association of Cat Lovers) recognized this type of Britons first.

Golden chinchillas were bred later

Effigy of the first cat of the British chinchilla named Silver Lambkin (Silver Lambkin) put on public display in the London Museum of Natural History. He died at the age of 17 years.

The author does not claim the accuracy of the history of the British chinchillas. On the Internet, you can find a lot of very contradictory information about this. As it often happens, there are several applicants for a palm. There is a version that these cats were bred by the English breeder Norman Windler in the 70s of the last century, who also crossed the British shorthair and Persians. In 1973, he first brought these cats to the exhibition. According to another version, the Americans who knitted a silver tabby and a regular smoky cat participated in the origin of this breed. Most likely all the options are true and there are several pedigree branches of chinchillas, differing only in experts with noticeable nuances of appearance.

British chinchilla description

All the main breed characteristics of the chinchilla correspond to the standard of the British shorthair cat. The only difference is in the magnificent and unusual fur.

British chinchillas have a very unusual and rare coat color.

Appearance

British chinchillas have a rather large body with a wide sternum, straight back and well-formed hips. The build they have a powerful, slightly squat with well-developed muscular system.

Chinchilla body build is strong and stocky

Standard breed characteristics are described as follows:

  • a large head with a broad forehead and a neat rounded muzzle with wide cheekbones and pronounced round cheeks,
  • the nose is wide, short and straight, the mirror of the nose is pink or brick-colored,
  • small-sized ears rounded at the ends are spaced widely apart
  • the neck is short, thick and muscular,
  • the eyes are large and round, they are planted not deeply and not very far, the color is welcomed saturated emerald green, but there are blue-eyed and yellow-eyed individuals,
  • well-developed muscular limbs are proportional, but shortish, why cats seem to be squat,
  • hoisted round, thick and large, with tufts of hair between the fingers,
  • the tail is not very long, thick, with a rounded tip,
  • weight: male - 5–8 kg, female - 3–4 kg (neutered or sterilized individuals can reach 10–12 kg).

The coat of the British chinchillas is dense, short and thick, does not adhere to the body, the undercoat is well developed.

For chinchillas, emerald green eyes are preferred.

There are three main types of color:

Silver. The main tone of the coat is white. The marginal hairs have black tipping, that is, the tip of each hair is colored black at 1/8 of its length. The rest of it is white undercoat. Particularly pronounced dark areas on the sides, back and tail. The chest and abdomen are almost always white. Thanks to such a tipping, the cat's fur seems covered with a thin translucent black veil. The paw pads are dark, their tone always corresponds to a contrasting color. Eyes, nose mirror and mucous membranes are outlined with a thin black contour, like a cosmetic pencil.

Silver color of chinchillas is considered the most common.

She is extremely calm and balanced, always maintains the position of an observer and tries not to intervene in the affairs of others. But observation of what is happening is part of her immediate responsibilities.

Chinchillas have a balanced and calm character.

Make a Briton living plush toy will not work. The animal endures all emotional baby talk, squeezing and forced petting stoically with the indulgence and composure inherent in this breed. The pet does not like to be in the center of attention and does not accept any violence against its own person. To make him do what he does not want is absolutely impossible. The stubbornness and love of freedom of this breed will not have to occupy. But with a little effort and a little trickery, the owner is always able to achieve the goal.

A distinctive feature of chinchillas is independence and self-sufficiency

Chinchillas are smart, well trained, especially when they themselves want it. They are accustomed to order in the house quickly, even in infancy, and follow it for the rest of their lives. They will not become dirty tricks and crap anywhere, because this is not characteristic of the English aristocrats, with whom they probably feel. Their whole look, imposing and slightly relaxed, speaks of royal origin. Vanity is unfamiliar to them, they do everything slowly and thoroughly. This proud animal would never beg for food from the table, even if it is very hungry, and wait patiently at its own bowl.

British chinchilla will never be imposed

Chinchilla cats refer to communication with small children as an inevitable evil and cost of living next to a person. They courageously tolerate all childish pranks and will never use their main sedative in the form of sharp claws and teeth. At the first opportunity presented, they will surely try to step back into the inaccessible zone. But even here they do not fuss and flee shamefully from the battlefield, they carry their fluffy teles proudly and intelligently.

Chinchillas bravely tolerate children

The British are absolutely devoid of aggression, they would never even think of throwing themselves at the offender and, all the more so, of taking revenge. But offended can and will, with a look of offended innocence, recline in the distance. Soak up, stretched out on a soft couch or curled up in their own basket, is their favorite pastime, which they will never trade for stupid running after a ball. Although kids in childhood are playful and inquisitive, like all kittens. But with age they calm down and become phlegmatic.

Most often, chinchillas prefer to bask on the couch or couch

Many owners of British chinchillas note the silence and restraint of their pets, who consider below merit to no avail.

Some members of this plush breed are talkative and sociable. They accompany all their actions with appropriate sounds that can be interpreted. The British can be left alone for a long time at home, they don’t get bored alone and will always find something to do. The owner who came home from work will be moderately pleased and will be happy to tell about the events that happened during the day. Good manners and innate politeness will not allow them to get under their feet and impose their society. These tactful pets do not have the habit of waking up their master in the morning, especially on a day off. They will fall down next to the phedik and calmly await his awakening. To the desired mode of the day cats are well accustomed.

There may be a conflict between two chinchillas over who is the master of the house.

For other pets, chinchillas are calm, easy to find a common language with everyone, including canaries, guinea pigs and huge angry dogs. But with other cats, friction may arise over the primacy of the house, in which every true representative of the feline tribe fancies himself the mistress.

From personal experience. Not all Britons have a phlegmatic and calm disposition. At the neigbour on office lives such cat. She was taken to the house by a three-month-old kitten, when an adult cat of a simple unknown breed already lived there. Baby immediately seized the palm and in every way scolded the old animal. Then she calmed down a bit, but continued to pull out large decorative cockroaches from the aquarium, which was standing in the kitchen, and try to get the snake out of the terrarium. Calm this animal could not be called even with a stretch.

Purchase of a British chinchilla kitten

Buy a good kitten British chinchilla is quite difficult. Breeding animals are best purchased in specialized nurseries or from reliable breeders who breed this particular breed.

Buying a pet by a frequent ad or in the bird market, there is a very big chance to be deceived and to get a simple kitten of an interesting color.

Criterias of choice

  • carefully study the breed standard and color features of the British chinchillas,
  • Read reviews about kennels and breeders offering kittens,
  • study the peculiarities of chinchilla content.

Be sure to look at both parents and evaluate their compliance with all the breed characteristics. It is also advisable to get acquainted with the previous offspring, if it already exists. The breeder must provide pedigrees confirming the thoroughbred of parents up to 4 generations and their pedigree qualities. It will be useful to see the exhibition diplomas and other attributes, indicating a successful exhibition career. It is obligatory to have a veterinary book in which all vaccinations made and the diseases suffered (chronic and hereditary) are noted.

Kitten must comply with all standard breed characteristics

It is necessary to evaluate the conditions in which animals are kept, as well as the diet.

Choosing a baby, you need to pay attention to the following points:

  • behavior - at the sight of a stranger a kitten should not tremble with fear and try to hide in the farthest corner, it should be active and inquisitive,
  • the appearance is that the fur is smooth and shiny, the ears and eyes are clean without any discharge, the nose is moist and cool,
  • documents - pedigree, metric, veterinary book, etc.,
  • availability of vaccinations.

Too low price usually indicates that the kitten has serious lack of appearance or health problems.

It is very difficult to determine the exhibition qualities of a future champion. This can only be done by an experienced breeder or expert. Very often, all the nuances of color appear in full only by 7–8 months.

The kitten must be active and inquisitive.

At what age is better to take a kitten

Diligent breeders donate kittens no earlier than three months. At this age, the kids are already completely independent, accustomed to the tray and eat adult food.

Chinchilla kittens give no earlier than three months

British chinchilla content

Properly keep the British chinchilla is very difficult and you need to carefully assess their own capabilities before starting such a pet.

Chinchilla can be fed with natural food and ready-made food factory-made. All feed must contain at least 30–35% protein.

British chinchilla can be fed with natural food and ready-made dry food.

You can not mix different types of feed, it is extremely harmful to the health of the British.

The amount and composition of food

Professional ready-made premium and super premium class food intended for Persian and British cats (Royal Canin, Hills, Sanabelle Bosch, Pro Plan, etc.) are recommended as ready-made store trains. The calculation of the daily dose should be made from the ratio of 70 kcal per 1 kg of live weight.

For the British chinchilla will be suitable feed class primer for cats of Persian and British breeds

It is very important to provide the pet with free access to a bowl of clean and fresh water (preferably bottled or filtered), which is changed daily.

In the natural menu include the following products:

  • raw lean meat (rabbit, turkey, veal, etc.),
  • boiled offal (liver, lungs, heart, kidneys, etc.),
  • sea fish boiled, boned,
  • low-fat dairy products (sour cream, kefir, unsweetened yogurt, cottage cheese),
  • eggs, preferably quail (not more than twice a week),
  • unrefined vegetable oil (½ tsp. l per day),
  • boiled vegetables (zucchini, carrots, cabbage, etc.),
  • cereal porridge (barley, buckwheat, rice, oatmeal, etc.).

Raw meat is frozen for 10–12 hours for disinfection, and before serving it is poured with boiling water and cut into small pieces.

Brits definitely need to feed raw meat

Some products may cause discoloration of wool (snow white tarnish):

  • egg yolks,
  • brightly colored vegetables and fruits (red and yellow),
  • milk,
  • butter.

The following foods are absolutely contraindicated for chinchillas:

  • sausages, wieners and sausages,
  • smoked products
  • raw cow milk,
  • canned food
  • pickles,
  • spicy and spicy dishes.

Feed the British chinchilla food from the table is strictly prohibited

If for a pet the ration is chosen correctly, then it immediately reflects on the state of its wool cover. The coat is silky, has a healthy shine, the cat is alert and active.

From personal experience. The British are famous for fastidiousness in food, which they will never eat. The notorious cat office mate used exclusively red chicken meat (fillet). She did not recognize anything else. In extreme cases, if it was really hungry, she agreed to super expensive dry food. In this case, her neighbor, an old cat chalked everything. Among the special delicacies of this fastidious British woman was fruit, she loved pears, especially mangoes.

Some Britons love fruit

How many times a day to feed a pet

The British are prone to overeating and, as a result, to obesity. They don’t know measures in food, therefore single doses of feed should always be accurately measured, and the uneaten remains should be removed from the rhinestone. You need to feed them in small portions and no more than 2-3 times a day. Feeding small kittens consists of 5-6 meals. Gradually, the number of feedings is reduced and by the year they switch to adult mode.

The role of a balanced diet in cat health

For chinchillas, it is extremely important to have a balanced and well-chosen diet, since this directly affects their appearance and quality of wool. With a natural diet it is necessary to give special vitamin-mineral complexes to pets. When using ready-made feeds, this is not necessary, since they already contain all the components necessary for the normal functioning of cats.

When natural nutrition necessarily add vitamin and mineral complexes.

It is very useful to provide the cat with the opportunity to pinch special green cat grass, especially in the autumn-winter period.

Combing

Golden and silver British chinchillas have two coats (long hair and shorter undercoat), which requires careful care. Two-level wool combed in two stages: first along the growth of hair, then in the opposite direction (against the hair). The procedure is carried out at least twice a week using a comb with fine teeth or a special glove. The measures taken in time will help to avoid the formation of tangles and serve as a massage for the animal's skin.

Chinchilla degraded twice a week

Exposing the British chinchilla to water procedures too often should not be, as water dries out the skin and spoils the structure of wool hair. Although cats of this breed are white, they do not get dirty very much.

In extreme cases, you can use a dry product for washing cats, which is selected based on the color of the animal.

Bathe chinchillas with special detergents

Bathe them as needed, preferably no more than 1 time in 3-4 months. For washing they use special zoo shampoos and softening conditioners (All Sistem), they are different depending on the color of the pet. On sale you can find bleaching shampoos (normal and dry), which can be used to treat wool if it has turned yellow.

Chinchilla is bathed no more than 1-2 times a month.

From personal experience. When we had a white cat, at first he was very dirty and he was often bathed. Wool was dull and brittle, she literally crawled out. Then the cat was tonsured and bathing him so often ceased. The wool gradually grew and it turned out that the cat itself copes with it perfectly and manages to look neat. The only thing he needed was to wash his paws after walking down the street.

Ear care

Ears of British chinchillas inspect once every 2-3 weeks. If necessary, clean and remove the accumulated dark scurf and contamination with a cotton swab soaked in a special composition for the care of ears in animals.

Ears inspect and clean 2-3 times a month

Eye care

The eyes of British chinchillas require particularly careful care, since they are characterized by copious and frequent tearing. This is due to the special structure of the tear ducts. The state of the pet's eyes must be constantly monitored and to prevent the formation of ugly clots in their corners. It is necessary every day to wipe the cat's eyes with a cotton pad dipped in warm boiled water, a solution of boric acid, herbal decoction (chamomile, calendula, etc.) or in a special pharmacy. Tetracycline ointment is used as a prophylaxis and with small suppuration. In the case of progression of eye disease should contact the veterinary clinic for advice.

In any large supermarket or veterinary pharmacy, you can find napkins for the care of the eyes and ears in animals

From personal experience. We have a Siamese cat living at home now. She, too, often runs tears from her eyes, so you have to wipe them often, sometimes not even once a day. It so happened that the process was started and her upper eyelid inflamed in both eyes. Just a couple of days, even the hair over the eyes got out. At the same time, the cat scratched horribly and scratched the skin before the wounds. After going to the vet, they began to treat her with drops, which he prescribed, and to apply an antibiotic ointment. A few days later the redness passed. Now we monitor eye hygiene more carefully.

Claw care

Chinchilla claws are trimmed once every 2-3 weeks with a claw cutter (special scissors). In order for the animal to be able to remove horny integument on its own, it is necessary to acquire a claw. It should be well fixed and stable.

It is best to provide your pet with a good multi-functional game complex, which will include various claws, beds, ladders, tunnels, toys, cabins, etc. Exercise is very useful for the British who are inclined to fullness.

Teeth care

As a prevention of problems with the teeth and gums, they should be cleaned at least once a week with a special toothpaste that does not require rinsing, and a soft curved brush.

Cat teeth clean once a week

British chinchillas regularly go to the tray of any design. Since these are rather large animals, you need to pick up a sufficiently large and stable pot. Most often opt for high open trays with additional bumpers. The type of filler will suit any.

When training a kitten to the tray, it is recommended that you first use the filler to which it is used. Diligent breeder in the transfer of the baby will always provide the necessary information and give recommendations for care.

It all depends on the nature of the animal. Some individuals do not have any need for being in the fresh air, they are quite satisfied with being in the confined space of several rooms. And others are not averse to look at the world around them.

Chinchilla walk better on a leash

Walking with a chinchilla is only needed on a harness and leash. You should first take care of protection from parasites (fleas and ticks). To do this, there are drops on withers, collars and other means.

Propensity to disease

Cats of this breed can suffer from the following diseases:

  1. Atrophy of the retina. Hereditary pathology, leading to a decrease in vision, and later to its complete loss. Manifested in excess of dilated pupils and night blindness. Diagnoses a veterinary ophthalmologist. Effective treatment does not currently exist. Carriers of this mutant gene are strictly excluded from breeding.
  2. Polycystic kidney disease. The disease is hereditary in nature, which is expressed in the formation of a large number of liquid cysts. The quality of blood purification is significantly reduced, which is fraught with intoxication, sepsis, infection, oncology, and even death. Individuals older than 7 years are more often ill, the symptoms are: severe thirst, refusal to eat, general lethargy and apathy, weight loss, frequent urination, unreasonable vomiting. For the diagnosis of conduct biochemical analysis of blood, ultrasound of the kidneys, biopsy, x-rays and bakposev kidney tissue. There is no effective therapy, in the early stages it is possible to perform a surgical operation with excision of the affected tissues.

For chinchillas characterized by the same scale of assessment of appearance, as for all Britons. Serious disadvantages are:

  • thin unfilled cheeks
  • a strong depression in the nose (stop)
  • too soft or sparse,
  • high set ears
  • sharp elongated muzzle
  • flat forehead.

The defects that exclude the participation of an animal in exhibitions are the following appearance defects:

  • blindness,
  • skeletal deformities
  • any abnormalities of the jaws and teeth (overshot, undershot, small number of teeth, etc.),
  • deafness,
  • strabismus,
  • century anomalies.

There are special requirements for the coloring of the wool cover, but each phenological system has its own and has many nuances. Only a specialist can understand them.

Breeding breed British chinchilla

In breeding, this breed of cats is very difficult, only professional felinologists and breeders can do this. Work on the improvement of chinchilla color continues. Currently, the breed is not considered fully formed.

Partner for the British chinchilla is hard to find

The history of the origin of the British Chinchilla cats

Almost all British cats have a long and rich history, and this feature of development gives them an advantage in the form of good health and a balanced playful disposition. Most often, they were born just within the maritime state, but sometimes breeders worked in other European countries.

In the nineteenth century, many English feline breeds were already formed, breed standards were established, and special exhibitions began to be held.

Officially, the international organizations of the British silver chinchilla are mentioned since the twentieth century. At about the same time, the adoration of people and world fame came to them.

The British chinchillas have great fur. Thick and soft undercoat combined with an incredible shade of a fur coat. All this is transmitted to the British chinchilla by their ancestors - Persian chinchilla, as well as other cats with monochromatic coat.

Breeders decided not to stop and continue to make achievements. The color of the animals' eyes was far from ideal, as the kittens of the British chinchilla gradually changed from turquoise-green to green-yellow. Initially, breeders decided to knit already existing chinchillas with cats belonging to the tabby breed.

This greatly spoiled the color of the wool - stripes and spots appeared on the fur, completely eliminating its purity. Later these cats were crossed by different generations, periodically diluting them with Persians.

In addition to the British silver chinchilla, an extraordinary golden color was also bred in the UK. The process of breeding British gold chinchillas was carried out in the same way, but the difference consisted in the selection of brighter cats that had been bred before.

Description of British chinchilla cats

In British chinchillas different fur color, the following are the main ones:

  • silver classic
  • gold,
  • cream,
  • shaded
  • smoky.

The real pride of these pets is the eyes of a beautiful emerald color. According to the exhibition criteria, British women may have yellow eyes, but they must certainly be combined with black or smoky fur. Almost all cats of this breed have a dark outline around the eyes.

Light coat, as a rule, goes in combination with a dark nose and foot pads.

In British gold chinchillas, not all of the coat has a golden hue. On the back, sides and tail of the British golden chinchilla, the color is darker, and on the chin, stomach and neck it is completely peach.

The British are very strong in appearance, they have a powerful neck. Cats of this breed have a flat, not particularly long back, as well as a broad chest. Their paws are muscular, and their hips are somewhat roundish. In addition, chinchillas have a thick tail with a rounded end.

The males have dense and large cheeks, with which they immediately stand out. The most obvious advantage is the huge expressive round eyes. They do not sit very deep and at about the same distance from each other.

The character of the British Chinchilla breed cats

These British are true aristocrats. They are pretty calm and have patience. The British chinchilla will make friends with all households without scratching the furniture and not mewing too aggressively and loudly. Balanced disposition allows them to establish contacts with children. If such a cat gets angry, it will not release claws or hiss, but will simply disappear from the eyes.

They have independence. The cat does not like it if someone tries to take away its freedom or territory. In addition, they do not like punishment and swearing, showing back their stubbornness. If you compare with the reviews of fans of such cats, you can learn that if the pet does not want to eat or play, it is impossible to make it. To cajole this pet can only be affection and a little trickery.

Care for British Chinchilla cats

Gentle Britons do not require special care. Breeders advise organizing pets regular exercise. Chinchillas like energetic games. In the house there must be a scraper.

Combing cats should be at least once a week, and long-haired - three times a week. A good option is the treatment of pet fur coats using cat whitening shampoos and balms that improve the color and quality of wool.

Sometimes you need to check and ears. If necessary, they are processed with a swab moistened with water or a decoction of herbs. To care for your teeth, the cat must eat solid food.

Reviews of British chinchilla cats

In love with this breed. My cat is a British chinchilla breed for two years. He is a wayward and intelligent, a real aristocrat. Eats premium food, besides respects boiled chicken and egg white. She loves to talk with people and with herself. He sits on his hands only to me, and sleeps in his place. She loves boxes. He is not afraid of the hair dryer and the vacuum cleaner, but plays with his toys. Below is a photo of my British chinchilla.

Our Vasilisa immediately accustomed to the tray. She is very smart, gentle and affectionate, a little annoying, but completely non-aggressive and not evil. Minus - likes to steal from the table, wean't manage to wean. Although elegant, but quite bright. We love her very much!

British chinchilla kennels

A good British chinchilla will be able to buy in a good nursery. When visiting a British chinchilla kennel, you should pay attention to what it looks like: whether the walls are clean, what kind of smell is in the room, what cats eat and what their toilet looks like, if they have toys, and so on.

You must make sure that the nursery has a license and status.

The price of British chinchilla kittens in the nursery is high, on average from three to forty thousand rubles.

British Chinchilla health and feeding cats

  • hemophilia.

British chinchilla can be fed with natural food. It must include:

This lovely pupil will decorate any housing. It will always bring happiness and joy to your home, especially if you take care of proper care and a balanced diet.

And a little about the secrets.

The story of one of our readers Irina Volodina:

My eyes were especially frustrating, surrounded by large wrinkles plus dark circles and swelling. How to remove wrinkles and bags under the eyes completely? How to cope with swelling and redness? But nothing is so old or young man as his eyes.

But how to rejuvenate them? Plastic surgery? I recognized - no less than 5 thousand dollars. Hardware procedures - photorejuvenation, gas-liquid pilling, radio lifting, laser facelift? Slightly more accessible - the course is 1.5-2 thousand dollars. And when to find all this time? Yes, and still expensive. Especially now. Therefore, for myself, I chose another way.

At what age to give a pet to the first mating

Chinchillas are considered late development cats, therefore they reach puberty rather late. It is recommended to knit them not earlier than 20-24 months. Too early childbirth will adversely affect the appearance of the not yet fully formed feline organism. In addition, the offspring may be very weak or even unviable.

Pet care after surgery

Cats should be carefully monitored after sterilization or castration. Competent postoperative care is as follows:

  • limit pet's movement activity,
  • provide peace and quiet
  • do not feed for 8-10 hours after surgery,
  • wear a postoperative baton or a special collar to avoid seaming
  • treat seams with hydrogen peroxide, chlorhexidine or other disinfectant solution once a day.

After the operation of castration or sterilization, you need to wear a postoperative bat on the cat

If the animal has a fever, stitches look bad and get wet, and in any other alarming situations, you should immediately contact a veterinary clinic.

British chinchilla owners reviews

Control everywhere, whether we are watching TV or cooking in the kitchen, Messi watches from some corner)))) He certainly doesn’t love children, my niece doesn’t offend him, but when he comes, he still presses his ears and tries to get into the most inaccessible a place. It is ridiculous to watch him peeking around the corner and watching when they are going to leave))))) He is very clean, the toilet is completely changed 1-2 times a week, we use gel sealers, wears nails exclusively on our house, claws are provided there . In general, he is for us as a sedative, we come home from work, and he meets us, asks his abdomen to scratch

Missis mystery

So here. The main quality of our cat - independence (as long as it does not want to). Whatever we do, no matter how educated, no matter if we ask, advise, he always does everything in his own way. For example, no confidential conversations, coaxing and even punishment made him get rid of the habit of lying on the dining table and leaving kaki in the living room ... so that guests could see his heroism! With food, a big fudge ... she doesn’t want to eat a useful naturalka ... she recognizes only raw chicken fillet, chose food for a long time, finally found a cool super-natural duo, but she doesn’t want to sit on one stern, constantly refrains her meat ... or something tasty ( cookies, chipcakes, nuts, myasko, pancakes), and if he doesn't get what he wants, he arranges a rebellion: he screams with a good mat and turns his bowl of food upside down) Our biggest problem is “take the cat on the handles, stroke”))) This task turns into a minimum - five minutes b him with obstacles throughout the apartment, after which the screaming and kicking beast, looking no longer like a cat, but like a jellyfish or turnips, kicking, trying to cling to walls, to air, to everything that falls under its feet. Even when you don’t take him in your arms, but you stroke him walking on the floor, he bends so displeased and leaves, as if stroking him with a rake, not a hand. ALTHOUGH! When he wants tenderness, he comes, purrs, rubs, tramples with his paws, yes, yes, and it happens!)))) But no, I do not want to say that this beast is antisocial, on the contrary, it does not tolerate solitude, always goes on heels , always “with everyone”, even if he sleeps, and he is left alone in a room, he jumps up and runs to everyone (but again, he’s with everyone, but “you don’t touch me, I’ll look at it from the side”).

On his knees, too, is not sitting, and if he sleeps with us, then somewhere in the corner away. When he wants, he can come, purr, arch, and with his front paws muslin the rug. This means that you need to stroke and scratch it. When this procedure gets boring, it just goes away or crawls away from me. Meows very rarely when it hurts. More often, he purrs, loudly, I don’t even know how to describe a sound, something like a short loud mrrr or ur. This sound accompanies all his actions: jumping, sharp movements, waking up, in general, he talks like that to us.

To you, it means that you need to take a kitten in the nursery, as very often they give out a shaded color for chinchillas. Chinchilla has always green eyes. Our documents indicate the color BRI ns 12 64, that is, a British silver-colored chinchilla cat. The others have darker hair, the real chinchilla has only the tip of the hair colored. As if spraying silver on it.

British chinchilla care and character are no different from other British cats. After all, a chinchilla is just a color, (the silver shaded it is properly called), and there are a lot of them in the British breed. As for vaccinations, buy ALREADY a vaccinated kitten, not earlier than 2.5 months. Then you can avoid problems with the tray, food, diseases. Otherwise it is a big risk. On the stress of relocation, early weaned off from the mother - the kitten can easily catch any infection and simply do not live up to the vaccination.

Taboo

He immediately went to the tray and sharpened his nails exclusively about a scraper such as tattered furniture and wallpaper, we still do not know. In contrast to the British caresses in it more happily sleeping with me under a blanket when I come home, lie down on my back and paws me to stroke. He has a habit of doing massage, he will be happy to knead his head for half an hour, depending on what he puts. From the food we refused to eat it, and we only, without salt, joyfully knead dumplings, boiled meat, cereals and soups, sometimes a curd. But how to feed this choice is always the owner. West cat about 6 pounds is quite so big I would say powerful but thick does not seem.

He is kind, does not bite (maybe a little bite when you play with him)). Bored, if you leave him alone for a long time. Very clever, the toilet always goes to the tray (we had a lot of cats, and a lot of problems with the toilet, so this is very important to me). The only minus is not sitting on his hands, pulling out, but quietly letting himself be stroked.

In the care, this breed of cats is also not simple, firstly, you need to buy special food (I have this ROYAL FIREPLACE), toilet filler (my pet really likes the ZONIK filler) in the store it has a very reasonable price of about 100 rubles. I can advise this breed, if you really love animals and love to care for them. But once again I warn you that this breed of cats is not very easy to care for.

The British chinchilla will be an excellent companion, a full-fledged family member and an unobtrusive friend who will always be there and will not let you get bored. The luxurious coat color makes this cat a decoration for any home. A docile, peaceful and slightly phlegmatic character more than compensates for the difficulty in caring for this teddy pet.
