The diet of rabbits at home consists of three types of food (coarse, concentrates and juicy). It is like the first, second, third dish for people. If we continue the analogy, with village feeding, hay is like a soup for a person, grain is like mashed potatoes with a chop. Well, juicy food - it's compote. When industrial feeding "compote" rabbits are not allowed. What rabbits eat on the farm and at home, how to organize feeding is the topic of this article.

What do rabbits eat in different conditions?

The variety of plant species allows you to organize the diet of animals for different tasks.

  1. Fattening (intensive - industrial or extensive - home).
  2. Breeding breeding of males and females in different periods of mating
  3. Decorative breeding rabbits suggests a different feed composition.

But first things first, rabbits eat ...

A photo. The diet of rabbits at home is significantly different from feeding rabbits on an industrial farm.

Diet for rabbits, which are

The diet of a rabbit can be of an industrial type, domestic or simple feeding from a vegetable garden, originally fed tribal and ornamental rabbits. Tribal fed. so that they do not accumulate fat. Ornamental rabbits are fed so that they do not have health problems. Sick rabbits have a peculiar smell, start to stink.

  1. The diet of industrial feeding. It is based on the use of complete dry rations with mechanized distribution and is designed for feeding rabbits with full-feed dry granulated feeds - mixed feed and granulated hay.
  2. The diet of home feeding. Based on natural feed, without mechanized distribution of feed, the use of all types and types of feed. In the home diet a lot of manual labor in the preparation of wet and semi-wet mash fodder and the distribution of the diet. What a rabbit eats at home depends on the financial capacity of the rabbit breeder, the climatic conditions of the place of detention and the season of the year.
  3. The diet of animals of the breeding core (industrial and domestic) is significantly poorer in calories than at the stern. Feeding is not intended for rapid growth, more important is the support of physical and sexual form.
  4. The diet of ornamental rabbits. According to the structure of the feed and the composition of the diet resembles the food of the breeding rabbits. They are given limited calorie foods and increase the composition and variety of fortified diets.

Rabbit diet on an industrial farm

A diet for rabbits on an industrial farm with intensive fattening is aimed at: organizing a cost-effective type of feeding. Tasks, with this type of feeding rabbits, the following:

  1. To mechanize the process of feeding rabbits,
  2. To get the rabbits to gain weight quickly
  3. To reduce the cost of feeding and maintenance,
  4. Reduce the number of attendants
  5. Easy to balance the diet of rabbits.

The diet of rabbits on modern rabbit-breeding complexes consists only of dry feed (granulated feed, granulated hay, artificial feed additives). They in various combinations and combinations correspond to all the stated tasks. Granulated feed (different recipes) and granulated grass granules are fed from bunker feeders with pneumatic and other feed systems to an individual feeder. This means that attendance by attendants can be reduced to minimal participation, and in some cases can be excluded altogether.

Distribution of succulent feed is difficult to mechanize. Therefore, almost everywhere exclude from the diet of juicy food, but increase the supply of drinking water. Vitaminized succulent feed replace feed additives. It is easier and cheaper.

Thus, on a large rabbit farm and mechanized distribution, the rabbit eats dry food. Juicy types of feed do not matter in the structure of the diet of rabbits. The daily diet of different age and sex groups of rabbits is calculated by professional livestock specialists.

Feed is fed to the feeders and drinkers mechanized. Drinking water set through the water supply. Reducing the number of staff allows you to:

  1. reduce the disturbing factor of rabbits by the presence of a person
  2. improve the epizootic situation on the farm,
  3. reduce the cost of vaccination, treatment,
  4. reduce the cost of feeding and maintenance,
  5. eliminate the use of succulent feed

Rabbit's food ration in the private farmstead in the village

What does a rabbit eat on a home farm? Plain country food. Only at home the rabbit eats all three types of feed: grain, coarse and juicy. And this is an indisputable advantage in terms of cheapness, ration usefulness. Consumers of rabbit meat and experienced rabbit breeders know that the rabbit taste on the consumer’s table ultimately depends on what kind of food the rabbits eat at home.

  • Rough feed is hay, branch feed. More than ten types of different hay are known. Hay is meadow, forest, mountain, cultivated land, legumes, cereals. Twisted feed is also referred to as coarse feed.
  • Grain food for rabbits is sometimes called concentrated. Includes oats, wheat, barley, millet, maize, sorghum, millet, soy. It is usually given in the form of crushed grains (debris), sometimes in the form of whole, steamed mash. Some rabbit breeders at home practice feeding with one kind of grain, but then changing to a different kind for different types depending on the feeding stage and the age of the rabbits.
  • Succulent feed was never part of the main feed of rabbits. But at home, rabbit breeders use these types of fodder very widely (weeds, garden leaves, root crops, melons, green mass, silage). To the question what rabbits love to eat, even a first grader will answer - carrot, that is, juicy food.

An experienced rabbit breeder will say that feed and rations for feeding rabbits affect three important indicators that are kept secret. A novice is useful to know the triad of the correct diet of rabbits, the value of each type of food separately.

  1. Rough feed (fiber, carbohydrates), responsible for the health of the rabbit's digestive system.
  2. Concentrated feed (proteins, fats, carbohydrates) affect the rate of weight gain by the rabbit.
  3. Juicy food (vitamins, minerals, amino acids) give the taste, aroma of rabbit on the consumer's table.

Calculation of feed needs, tips for newbies

A beginner rabbit breeder will provide a family of rabbit, having from two males (main and double) and at least three females. The season in Central Russia is 4-6 warm months a year. There are regions where the heat is longer or less than the specified period. We will focus on the average. A beginner breeder can really count from one female per season (April-May) to (November-December) to get fed up 8-16 young rabbits. That is, three females will give you 24 - 48 rabbits weighing from 3 to 5 kg each. The total live weight of all rabbits is at least 72 kg to 120 kg. The maximum live weight of all rabbits can reach from 144 to 240 kg. Real numbers always differ from the estimated need.

Based on the fact that the rabbit eats at home, you need to prepare food for the whole herd (2 males, 3 females and 24-48 rabbits). The novice rabbits kill for meat in November-December, and from April to resume reproduction. To switch to year-round rabbit breeding you need a field of experience.

For one season with mixed feeding for 24-48 rabbits, three females and two males will need approximately:

  • hay about 150 - 200 kg.
  • herbs (tops, weeds, freshly cut grass) - 500 - 700 kg,
  • grains up to 350-400 kg,
  • root crops - 100-120 kg,
  • salt - 2 kg,
  • bone meal or chalk up to 6 kg.

This amount is sufficient to provide normal nutrient requirements for up to 48 heads of young animals, three females and two males. Spend a monthly selective or total weights. According to the results, you can determine if there is enough (little or a lot) of feed. In the warm period, you can easily find in the garden and in the forest feed that they love, there are rabbits.

Rabbit feeding at home for beginners

Rabbits are animals that eat almost constantly while they are awake. This feature of their body is due to the structure of the gastrointestinal tract. The food they consume is not able to move further by the forces of the gastric muscles.

It is for this reason that the animal constantly eats, so that the digestion process does not stop and the food in the stomach does not stagnate. Through new portions of food, old food is pushed further along the digestive tract.

What can feed the rabbits

So, the logical question for every novice farmer is: what do rabbits eat? What can they give as feed and that it is absolutely impossible to eat animals.

Since rabbits are herbivores, different types of wild herbs are the basis of their nutrition, in particular:

  • nettle,
  • plantain,

  • carrot,
  • hazel,
  • Linden shoots
  • cabbage leaves,
  • lime shoots
  • shoots of fruit trees.

Animals prefer thick twigs, which additionally can sharpen their teeth. Also rabbits eat rhubarb and beet tops.

The presence of natural feed in the form of branches, shoots and herbs in the rabbit's diet not only positively affects the health and activity of the animal, but also allows the breeder to save well on its content.

Rabbits eat not only natural, natural food, but also factory combined, animals also need it. In such feed there are nutritional components, as well as various useful components:

Это нужно учитывать, но составляйте рацион так, чтобы в нем, кроме любимых продуктов кролика, присутствовали и другие.

Как правильно составлять меню для кормления кроликов

And if, on the contrary, the animals eat up everything and continue to search for food in bowls, then increase the portions.

There are no special formulas regarding the diet and the number of servings, the amount of food depends on many factors:

  • breeds of rabbits,
  • conditions of detention
  • climate.

Know that in cold regions, animals spend more of their energy on heat preservationtherefore need a lot of calories. The average figures are such that per day an adult individual needs a kilogram of greenery.

In addition, the average daily intake rate for rabbits, looks like this:

  • haulm garden crops - about 350 grams,
  • feed (mating and summer) - about 40 grams,
  • feed (winter time), which at this time is the main source of food - 500 grams,
  • root vegetables, vegetables - about a quarter of the daily ration of a rabbit.

Also the animal needs water. An adult needs about a liter of fluid per day, and young animals need about 400 ml per day. When the crawfish feeds on succulent fodder and herbs, it is partially saturated with liquid from these products.

To make rabbits healthy - you need to limit the consumption of red beets and nuts. As a complementary food do not give tops of tomatoes. When eating sorghum and Sudanese in animals, the digestive tract fails. Ushastik with pleasure eat corn seeds. But in this product are carbohydrates. In the stomach of animals, they cause fermentation processes. Because of this, breeders must limit the flow of water. This is especially true of newborn rabbits that are not yet adapted to life. Also such animals are prohibited sweets and other sweets.

Potatoes need to feed the rabbits carefully. Potato tops can be in the diet of the animal. But it must be administered in small doses. Harvested tops a week before the harvest itself. It can be used in dried and fresh form. Only after the body becomes accustomed to it, 14-16% of the whole green mass is replaced with tops. Fresh potatoes are fed only during the fattening period. The starch in the vegetable is designed for quick weight gain. Potatoes contain solanine - a very toxic substance. Therefore, the tuber must be cleaned. On the day you must give no more than one piece.

Carbohydrates and starch contained in bread contribute to obesity. It is best to give loaves of bread to rabbits who are fattened with final fattening. Oats, barley, wheat, buckwheat, rice must first be soaked. Do not give eared raw cereals and fatten them dry grain. Legumes have a good effect on the health of animals. Но необходимо ограничить их количество. Можно давать яблоки. Но их must be cleaned of seeds, as they contain the dangerous substance amygdalin. When feeding pork feed, food should be unsalted. It should contain as little dust as possible. Cabbage, pumpkin and zucchini are great for a mixed diet of rabbits. Pine and other conifers contain vitamins. But Do not give needles in large quantities.

Green food

This type includes freshly cut grass and garden greens. They are fed from early spring to late autumn. This food all summer should be plentiful. It helps to reduce the cost of production of rabbit meat, but also they get a full diet of vitamins and trace elements necessary for active growth and reproduction. Fresh grass before feeding should be slightly dried in the sun.

If you have a small livestock, the green feed conveyor can be provided from the dacha. To do this, select a few small places for sowing alfalfa, peas, sainfoin, a mixture of wiki with peas, oats, rye, or wheat. Oats and peas are planted in the middle of March and thus receive early greens. Rabbits willingly eat corn.

Also from the garden it is useful to give tops from root crops, except for potato and tomato. Dill, celery, horseradish and rhubarb are well eaten. Wherein dandelion and dill are useful for giving to rabbits when feeding rabbits with milk. Useful for vegetable gardens and rabbits. Weed feeding: dandelion, wheat grass (with roots), colza, sow thistle, nettle.

Garden greens before feeding should be washed from the ground. Do not give rotten and too wet greens, - this will lead to disease and death of animals.

Rabbits eating green food.

In the event that a farm with a large population, then of course you need to mow meadow grass.

Of these, aromatic and bitter herbs will be helpful:

They improve the digestion of animals. They should not be given to lactating females, the milk will be bitter and the rabbits may abandon it, which will lead to death.

The list, what can not be fed rabbits:

These herbs should not be given to beasts. They are poisonous when fresh. When dried, the toxicity of these herbs is lost in whole or in part.

The transition to summer, green animal fattening should take place gradually. It should be given at first in small portions and as the habituation is increased, increase the portions.

Rough food

What kind of grass can be given to rabbits? Dried useful herbs, that is, hay, straw, branches of trees and shrubs.

Hay - an important source of checkers. It is required to improve the digestion of rabbits. The best hay is considered - meadow, steppe. In the meadows grows a large number of useful, medicinal herbs. Clover, alfalfa, chamomile, yarrow, mouse polka, medunits and many others.

It has a great nutritional value for fattening rabbits. It is given in the period from late autumn to early spring. Properly dried grass has a fragrant smell and green color. Billet rate:

  • per adult - 40 kg,
  • for young animals up to 5 months of age - 10-15 kg.

For harvesting hay, grass is mowed by hand, with a walk-behind tractor or a mini-tractor with a trailed mower. After she lies in the sun and dries, it should be collected and folded in the stacks, which should subsequently be placed under a canopy.

Harvested coarse feed for rabbits.

If there is no such, they are put on a specially designated place near the rabbit house, under the open sky and at the top of the head they pull a cap of plastic film. It is securely fastened so as not to be blown away. The film protects the hay from moisture and mold.

Since rabbits need to constantly grind the incisors, they are given branches of some tree species. For this fit:

  • birch,
  • lime,
  • aspen,
  • maple,
  • poplar,
  • hornbeam,
  • willow,
  • cornel,
  • ash trees,
  • elm,
  • verbal,
  • pear,
  • apple trees,
  • acacia.

What to feed the rabbits so that they gain weight? It is useful to feed pine, spruce and juniper needles. It is cut from the branches and dried. This is an excellent source of vitamins such as: C, E and B vitamins, as well as carotene. Given at the rate of 150-300 grams per 1 kg of live weight. As with any food, rabbits need to be taught to the needles gradually. Start with small doses and gradually increase to normal.

It is not recommended to feed branches to rabbits: elderberry, rushin, broom, bird-cherry, wild rosemary, as well as branches of the wolfberry. Many stone fruit trees contain harmful substances for animals. These include:

According to the nutritional value, spruce feed is equal to meadow hay. Thin, dried branches with leaves are rich in amino acids, protein, carotene. They have a high content of fats and minerals.

Device for feeding and keeping rabbits

This feed is fed all year round. It is especially useful in winter and during the transition from winter feed to summer. If you have not harvested enough hay, then they can be replaced by half the diet.

Daily rate per rabbit:

  • in the winter - 150-200 grams,
  • in the summer - 200-300 grams.

In this case, they need to feed the branches of oak and alder. But feeding a large number of birch branches should not get carried away. May cause kidney inflammation.

To properly prepare the branches, they must be cut with a thickness of not more than 1 cm. The billet is produced in the month of June in July, when they have the greatest nutritional value. Cut branches should be bundled and tied with a cord. Hang in the shade to dry.

Succulent feed

The structure of succulent feed contains a lot of structured water (70-80%). Because of this, they are easily digested and digested by the body. Same they are the source of such beneficial substancesas: fiber, vitamins, carbohydrates, proteins, minerals and vegetable fats. Rabbits are fed:

  • beet fodder and sugar,
  • potatoes (preferably boiled and in the form of a mash with mixed fodder),
  • pumpkin,
  • carrots
  • squash,
  • Jerusalem artichoke,
  • pumpkin,
  • watermelon fodder,
  • fodder cabbage (in limited quantities),
  • silage

This is not the entire list of succulent feed eaten by animals. What is useful for rabbits each of the products of this list and what they like more?

Succulent feed for eating in the countryside

Potatoes have few vitamins, but it is rich in starch, which is easily digested and digested. Moreover, it is the most common vegetable garden.

Carrots are rich in vitamins, essential oils, minerals and fatty acids. When it is fed in animals, an increase in appetite is observed. Distribute to animals raw whole or sliced.

Is it possible to give zucchini to rabbits? Zucchini is primarily a nutritious vegetable. It has a lot of structured water, which is useful for animals. Take into account the fact that when feeding this vegetable drinking water in drinkers should be limited. Zucchini is suitable for the manufacture of silage, which is fed to animals in winter. Vegetable fed in the summer and autumn. Until spring it is poorly stored.

Can rabbits be given a pumpkin? According to its properties similar to zucchini. It has a lot of vitamins. Carotene. Therefore, feeding this vegetable is beneficial for the organism of animals. You can give from autumn to spring, as it is well stored in winter. Before feeding, cut into pieces.

Cabbage is eaten by rabbits with pleasure, but must be given in limited quantities. Because after it, animals have bloating. Therefore, they need to be accustomed to this type of feed gradually. Cabbage contains many vitamins, water, fiber and trace elements necessary for active growth and reproduction.

Jerusalem artichoke

This vegetable goes to feed the tubers, as well as green mass. You can feed animals up to the frost because it grows for a long time. Feeding tubers is an excellent prophylactic against intestinal diseases. To improve digestion.

The peculiarity of the vegetable is that it does not need to dig. He is very tolerant of frost and can be dug out in the spring and fed to animals. At the same time, it does not lose its beneficial properties.

The feed is only sugar or fodder. It improves blood composition. The composition of such useful for animal substances: sugar, proteins, fats and trace elements. The beet plant is laid in a silo, and the tubers are fed 50 grams per day per adult rabbit.

Rabbits eating apples

Vegetable and watermelon peels

Animals can be fed many wastes from the table, but can they be given watermelon peels, especially decorative ones? They eat small potatoes and peels, cabbage leaves, melon and watermelon rinds. After preparing winter salads, a lot of waste remains, which can also be fed to animals. They are well eaten with dried crusts of bread, but don’t give sweet flour to rabbits.

Correct Concentrated Feed

Concentrated feeds include cereals (oats, wheat, barley, corn), animal feed and waste. They are high in calories, rich in protein and minerals, but they are low in vitamins.

Before feeding, they are crushed and moistened, except whole grains. From grain the best is considered for feeding oats. It normalizes intestinal activity in rabbits. Oats are given to rats by producers, young rabbits up to 3 months of age and females. When fattening with wheat and barley, they grow fat. Therefore, these grains give in small quantities to young animals for fattening.

It is fed whole, flattened or shattered.

Corn is more nutritious than oats, but tough for rabbits, so it is soaked, crushed. Sometimes fed corn porridge. More often it is mixed with other feeds. It should not exceed half the norm of the mixture.

It is used for fattening, as it is very nutritious. This food is not only possible, but also should be eaten by young rabbits. It is given in crushed or flattened out.

They contain phosphorus. And:

  • 13% protein,
  • 5% fat
  • 60% nitrogen-free extractive substance,
  • 7% fiber.

It is fed in a mix with a green grass, a rough and juicy forage.

Popular feed to use. It can be incompletely (loose) and complete (granular). Granulated feed is a balanced diet for animals. In these foods add vitamins, trace elements, as well as can be with antibiotics and drugs.

The prepared and pressed compound feed for rabbits

When feeding by frontiers, a quick average daily increase occurs.. He is:

  • from 60-100 days - 35 grams,
  • from 100-135 days - 30 grams.

For the feeding of rabbits, granulated feed is produced in two types:

  • PC 90-1 - designed for feeding from 1 month to 6 months,
  • PK 93-1 - for rabbits up to 3 months, as well as used in fattening before slaughter.

Cake and meal
It is used in steamed form and used in a mixture with potatoes or mixed feed. Rich in iron and phosphorus. In use comes cake from soybean, flax, sunflower and hemp. Cotton cake is not used. It contains gossypol, this substance is poisonous to rabbits.

Meals contain less fat compared to the cake, but it is also rich in protein. In the feed used meal of flax, sunflower, soy.

For feeding rabbits, including dry fodder yeast and hydrolysis, beet pulp are used. They are given in mixture with other feeds.

From the above it is clear that rabbits for active growth and reproduction require a variety of food. It must be balanced and complete. Especially since any rabbit breeder can do this. The rate and composition of feed differs from the seasonality of the year. In the summer, the rabbits are given more green and juicy feed, and in the winter - juicy, concentrated and coarse feed.

Rabbits eating oats

Food laid out in special feeders. They are made and installed so that the rabbits do not have the opportunity to trample. Root vegetables must be cleaned of contamination. It is not necessary to give moldy or rotten food to animals.

How to feed animals in summer: herbs, vegetables, watermelons

Diet rabbits in the village or on a personal farm

In order to make the diet of rabbits you need to take into account the time of year, what is the weight and age of the animal. As well as its physiological state. The rate of feeding is derived from the nutrient content in the feed:

  • feed unit
  • protein,
  • trace elements
  • vitamins.

In the daily diet should be present all the nutrients at the rate of feeding. During physiological dormancy, animals need nourishing food less than suckling and nursing females, as well as young calves.

Rabbit breeders in the preparation of the diet should be borne in mind that for animals grown for meat the number of proteins increases, and the fattening period decreases. Those who want to get a quality skin ration should calculate the opposite. Harm to health does not bring the feeding of grass and hay. They can be given without restriction, but the rest of the feed should be given at the rate and according to the regime.

Feeding regime at home

Rabbit feeding mode must be observed, because with the timely distribution of food they begin to produce gastric juice, which is known to help better digest and process food. They grow and develop better. They approach the feeders at least 80 times, they often eat, but little by little.

Suppose a female during lactation and babies up to 2.5 months need to be fed 4 times a day. Young adults and adults need 2 x - 3 x times. Read more about winter and summer feeding of animals.

Feeding the rabbit in nature. The need to comply with the regime.

Winter: three meals a day:

At 8 am - we give half the rate of concentrates and hay,

In 12 days - give the roots,

At 17 in the evening - the second half of the concentrates and full norms of hay and branches.

Winter: 4 meals a day:

At 6 am - ⅓ concentrates and ¼ hay,

At 11 days - ½ root vegetables, ⅓ concentrates,

At 16 pm - ½ root vegetables, ½ hay,

At 19 pm - ¼ sen, ⅓ concentrates.

At night, the animals feed in the feeder sprig feed.

Summer: 3 meals a day:

At 6 in the morning - full of concentrates and the third part of the norm grass,

At 15 days - the third part of the green food norm,

At 19 pm - full feed concentrates, a third of green fodder, as well as branch feed.

Summer: 4 times a day feeding:

At 6 am - the third part of the concentrates, the sixth part of the grass,

At 11 am - the third part of the concentrate, the sixth part of the green feed,

At 16 pm - full grass,

At 19 pm - the third part of the concentrate, the sixth part from the norm of green fodder and branches.

Vitamin and mineral supplements for rapid growth

In the summer, rabbits have enough vitamins in green grass and vegetables, but closer to spring, their reserves in the body run low and need to be replenished.

To replenish vitamin A and D, rabbit is injected into the feed fish oil or oil concentrate in ampoules.

  • little rabbit - 0.5 grams,
  • adults - 1 gram,
  • suckling and nursing females - 3 grams.

Vitamin E deficiency can be replenished:

  • green hay
  • пекарскими дрожжами,
  • пророщенным зерном,
  • аптечными препаратами.

В рацион вводят костную муку:

  • кальций 32 процента,
  • фосфор 15 процентов.

Костную золу:

  • calcium 35 percent
  • phosphorus 16 percent.

Chalk: calcium 40 percent.

Vitamins and mineral supplements for rabbits.

Salt is also important for rabbits. The consumption rate for young stock is from 0.5 to 1 gram per day. For adults from 1 to 1.5 grams. For fattening rabbits, the rate is increased to 3 grams. Since it is difficult to distribute such doses, it is more convenient to give salt in the form of a lick. Spread salt pebbles in places not accessible for trampling. Thus, the rabbits themselves control the rate of salt intake.

What can not eat rabbits?

So, what can we feed the rabbits we disassembled. We turn to the question that it is impossible to give the rabbits under any circumstances. These animals have a weak stomach with weak muscles. It should always be food and water. Their digestive process is designed so that food is pushed by food and therefore, to avoid digestive problems you should not keep them hungry.

It is also not recommended to give sour, salty or sweet food. From freshly cut grass they have a swelling of the intestines. Before feeding, it must be withered in the sun. When mowing, pay attention to the presence of toxic herbs. Root crops should not be given with contamination. Wash them before giving.

Not all plants are good for feeding animals. An excessive amount of cabbage may cause intestinal upset. Buttercup caught in the grass leads to diarrhea, poisoning and bloating. Dangerous flower such as chamber. Causes paralysis of the animal.

This family includes aconite. The animal has a strong drooling, convulsive state and slows the pulse.. Poisoning with this plant leads to the death of eared fish. From marsh marigolds they have a violation in the work of the kidneys. You can not feed the rabbits with toxic plants:

  • hemming
  • mustard
  • colza
  • digitalis,
  • dope
  • spurting
  • Colchic and many others.

Farmers raising rabbits on a farm brings a good income. If feeding is organized properly, then there are no diseases of the digestive system.

A balanced diet contributes to the active development and breeding of rabbits.
And finally, a small video on the topic of how to feed rabbits in winter:

Rabbit Feed Groups

Mammals of the hare family in no case should not starve. Inadequate or improper feeding can become not only the reason for the slowdown of growth processes and diseases, but also can provoke the death of an animal.

It is interesting! A characteristic feature of rabbit digestion is a very poorly developed gastric and intestinal muscles, therefore, all food moves inside the digestive tract not by means of muscle contractions, but pushed by a new portion of food.

There are four main groups of rabbit feeds that make it easy to provide the animal with a complete and balanced diet: coarse, green, concentrates and succulent feeds. Green fodder is used mainly in spring and summer, and can be presented:

  • wild herbs,
  • grains, legumes and leguminous crops,
  • vegetable tops, including the above-ground part of Jerusalem artichoke, turnip, swede, sugar and fodder beet,
  • fodder cabbage.

It is best to take away the plots on which clover, alfalfa, lupine, vetch, oats, winter rye, barley and corn are sown independently. Cereal, legumes and legume-cereal grasses contain a significant amount of proteins, as well as vitamins and minerals.

However, as the practice of rabbit breeding shows, the giving of green fodder should be carried out in mixtures, which will reduce the risk of meteorism in the rabbit. It is important to remember that tomato tops are absolutely contraindicated to rabbits, and potato tops can be used, but with very great care. It should also be borne in mind that beet tops have a laxative effect, so its amount in the total green mass should be minimal.

No less important for proper digestion are roughage, which should be a quarter of the diet.. This category includes hay and tree branches that need to be harvested in spring and summer, as well as grass meal. Grass hay mowed to flowering, and dried first under the sun, and then under a ventilated canopy. Store roughage should be in dry rooms, on special wooden flooring. Twig feed:

  • linden branches,
  • maple branches,
  • willow branches,
  • willow branches,
  • acacia branches,
  • poplar branches,
  • rowan branches,
  • aspen branches,
  • ash branches,
  • elm branches,
  • oak branches,
  • branches of lilac,
  • apple branches,
  • raspberry branches,
  • pear branches,
  • hazel.

In a small amount allowed to feed the branches of birch, plum, cherry and sweet cherry. Branches from such plants as bird cherry, elder, wolf's bark, apricot, buckthorn and wild rosemary are absolutely unsuitable. In winter, the diet is supplemented with fresh branches of coniferous trees.

Particular attention should be paid to the juicy feeds represented by root crops and silage, including watermelons, pumpkin, cabbage, potatoes, carrots, kouziku, beets and zucchini. Any succulent feed is very well eaten by rabbits and is almost completely digested. Very high-grade and highly nutritious silage is represented by a mixture based on beets, carrots and cabbage, with the addition of tops.

Concentrated feed, represented by cereals, grains of leguminous crops, cuts, meal, meal, compound feed and animal feed, have the greatest nutritional value. Such mixtures have a high energy value due to the large amount of proteins and the minimum amount of water. Valuable crops include oats, corn, barley, wheat, sorghum and rye, as well as peas, lentils, beans and soybeans. Oats are given whole, crushed or rolled. Wheat, sorghum, rye and barley are pre-crushed and mixed into other foods. The amount of wheat should be limited.

Essential Vitamins and Minerals

As a rule, the lack of vitamins and minerals is observed in rabbits in the winter and early spring. There are several vitamin-mineral complexes that are used very successfully by rabbit breeders:

  • "Chiktonik" - includes about three dozen vitamins and basic amino acids. The drug is given a five-day course, every month, at the rate of 1 ml per liter of pure water,
  • Prodevit is a vitamin complex designed for weak animals suffering from an ulcer, rickets, liver diseases, as well as pathology of mucous membranes. The drug is available in the form for injection and oral administration,
  • "E-Selen" is a drug intended for the correction of disorders of development and growth, with the exacerbation of infectious diseases, treatment of poisoning and other pathologies. Available in a form for injection and oral use.

Mineral supplements, represented by mineral stones: “Chika” and Carly, have proven themselves very well. You can also use "Bio-iron", supplemented with basic trace elements, and vitamin-mineral supplement "Ushastik."

What and how to feed the rabbit in the summer

Feeding in the summer is very different from the main winter diet. A special feature is a significant amount of green and succulent fodder:

  • 700g grass and 70g of concentrated feed are given to fattening rabbits,
  • 700g of grass and 30g of concentrated feed are given to males and females on vacation,
  • 800g of grass and 40g of concentrated feed are given to males on mating,
  • 800g of grass and 50g of concentrated feed are given to the sucker rabbits,
  • 900 kg of grass and 50g of concentrated feed are given to young sukrolny rabbits,
  • 1200g of grass and 70g of concentrated feed are given to lactating bunnies,
  • 300g grass and 20g concentrated feed are given to young animals aged one to two months,
  • young animals aged three to four months are given 500g of grass and 45g of concentrated feed,
  • young animals aged five to six months are given 600g of grass and 55g of concentrated feed.

It is important to remember that when giving a branch and succulent feed, the amount of grass is reduced by exactly half.

Important! Grass is required before giving the rabbit necessarily podvyalivat, and the salt is best laid out in cages in the form of stone-lick.

What and how to feed the rabbit in winter

In winter, special attention is paid to the nutritional value of feed, due to the need to maintain an optimal diet in conditions of freezing weather. The rate of giving food varies depending on the age and condition of the rabbit:

  • 150g of forage, 500g of root crops and 80g of concentrated feed are given to fattening individuals,
  • males and females on vacation are given 150g of rough feed in the form of hay, 150g of root crops and 40g of concentrated feed,
  • males are given 150g of rough feed, 200g of root crops and 55g of concentrated feed,
  • 180g of rough feed, 200g of root crops and 60g of concentrated feed are given to the suckling rabbit,
  • 250g of rough forage in the form of hay, 300g of root crops and 70g of concentrated forage are given to young suckle females,
  • nursing females are given 200g of rough feed, 400g of root crops and 90g of concentrated feed,
  • young animals aged one to two months are given 50g of rough feed, 150g of root crops and 35g of concentrated feed,
  • youngsters aged three to four months are given 100g of roughage, 300g of root crops and 55g of concentrated feed,
  • young animals aged five to six months are given 150g of roughage, 350g of root crops and 75g of concentrated feed.

Waste production, represented by bran, meal, cake and dry pulp, as well as malt sprouts, which have a fairly high nutritional value, are also very well suited for winter feeding.

General feeding rules mode

In order to properly provide the rabbit with good nutrition, it is necessary to remember that such an animal has certain digestive characteristics. The feeding regime must be observed very strictly, since only timely distribution of feed contributes to the correct production of gastric juice. As practice shows, the rabbit can come to the trough more than fifty times a day, so the food of such animals is often consumed, but in small amounts.

The number of dachas and the feeding regime vary. For example, females during lactation, as well as rabbits under the age of two months, need to provide four meals a day. It is enough to feed the young and adult individuals two or three times a day. Approximate diet depending on age and season.

Three meals a day in winter:

  • morning cottage feed - half of the daily rate of concentrated feed and hay,
  • day cottage feed - root vegetables,
  • Evening cottage feed - half the daily rate of concentrated feed and half the rate of hay or twigs.

Four meals in winter:

  • morning cottage feed - a third of the total daily rate of concentrated feed and a quarter of the total daily rate of hay,
  • the first day dacha feed - one third of the total daily rate of concentrated feed and half of the total daily rate of root crops,
  • the second day dacha feed - half of the total daily norm of root crops and half of the total daily norm of hay,
  • evening dacha feed - a quarter of the total daily rate of hay and a third of the total daily rate of concentrated feed.

Regardless of the number of feedings, for the night, the rabbits definitely need to lay in the feeder cage a sufficient amount of branch feed.

How to fatten a rabbit

Young animals are selected for fattening, their age is 2.5 months, as well as adult rejected individuals. The fattening period is about a month, but may vary depending on the indicators of the fatness of the animal and its age characteristics. The whole feed consists of the preparatory, main and final stages.

At the first stage, which lasts five to six days, the usual ration is slightly supplemented by concentrated feeds, represented by feed, cereals and legumes, as well as herbs. In the second stage, which lasts eight days, the animals are fed feed that can stimulate the deposition of fat. For this purpose, you can use boiled potatoes with the addition of animal feed or wheat bran, corn kernels, peas, flax or hemp seeds, oats and barley, wheat and cake. It is also advisable in this period to enter into the diet a small amount of milk.

At the final, weekly stage, appetite is stimulated by adding dill, parsley and cumin to the feed. Also during this period, it is necessary to completely eliminate the cottage of hay and increase the total daily volume of concentrated feed.

It is interesting! Rapid weight gain contributes to the restriction of physical activity, so during the fattening period, the cage in which the animal is placed should be as close as possible.

Feeding sukrolny and nursing rabbits

Only with the right ration of feeding the suckle and lactating rabbit, can viable, well-developed and high-quality offspring be obtained. At the stage of sukololnost it is important to provide mineral nutrition as competently as possible, therefore the rabbit is given one and a half grams of bone meal or chalk, as well as a gram of table salt daily.

In winter, the daily ration should consist of 150-200g of high-quality hay, 50-60g of concentrated feed and 200-225g of succulent feed.. In summer, the rabbit diet may consist of: 800-1000g of fresh grass and 40-50g of concentrated feed. Regardless of the time of year, each sukrolnaya rabbit is necessarily given about 5-8 g of meat and bone meal or fish meal.

The rapid growth and development of baby rabbits are explained by the high nutritional value of the milk of the female, therefore, the lactating animal should be provided with proper feeding. From the moment of akol and up to the sixteenth day, females are given 1400g of grass in the summer + 40g of concentrates, and in winter about 250g of hay + 300g of juicy feed + 80g of concentrated feed.

From the sixteenth day, in the summer, 100g of grass + 5g of concentrated feed is added, and in winter, 20g of hay + 20g of succulent feed + 7g of concentrated feed per each rabbit born.

Feeding young rabbits

It is desirable to set down baby rabbits at the age of one and a half months, which minimizes mortality among the young. Any new feed is introduced in doses and gradually. In order to make the adaptation as easy as possible, a few drops of group B vitamins are added to the drinking water. The diet of young rabbits should be presented:

  • dried grass or high-quality hay,
  • boiled potatoes
  • pumpkin or zucchini, carrots,
  • powdered milk
  • vitamin and mineral complexes in winter,
  • herbal flour,
  • oats,
  • wetted feed,
  • bone and fish meal,
  • obratom.

A good result gives the supplement of the daily diet of such plants as chicory, chamomile, yarrow and burdock, as well as spruce feed. Since the age of four months, the diet is gradually changing by reducing the proportion of combined feed. In the winter period, 10-20% of hay, 55-60% of mixed feed and 20-30% of succulent feed are given. In summer, the ration should consist of 30-40% of dried herbs and 60-70% of concentrated feed. Daily recommended to enter into the diet of fish oil in the amount of 0.5 grams.
