Ticks can trigger the development of piroplasmosis in domestic animals. To prevent such a disease, it is necessary to prevent the attack of ticks and other parasites on pets. To do this, apply various tools in the form of drops on withers, collars and sprays. One of the most effective is the drug "Frontline". The feedback on this tool is mostly positive. It is about him, our article.
The composition of the tool
The drug "Frontline" (the price of the drug depends on the volume of the pipette and is in the range of 220-400 rubles) is a drug insecticide-acaricide in the form of a colorless transparent solution with a specific odor exclusively for external use. The main active ingredients of the drug are S-methoprene - 8.8% and fipronil - 9.8%, auxiliary - polysorbate and polyvidone.
The drug "Frontline Combo" (instructions for use will be described below) has a pronounced contact insecticoacaricidal effect. Active in the preimaginal and imaginal phases of development of lice, ticks, lashes, fleas, which can parasitize cats or dogs.
Under the action of fipronil, which is part of the drug, GABA-dependent receptors of parasites are blocked, transmission of nerve impulses is disturbed, and as a result, paralysis and death of ectoparasites.
S-methoprene inhibits the function of juvenile hormone, which is involved in the formation of chitin, resulting in impaired development of eggs and larvae of a future flea.
When applied to the skin, absorption of the drug does not occur. The remedy gradually, over the course of a day, is distributed over the surface of the body and, lingering in the sebaceous glands, has a long insecto-acaricidal effect in places where ectoparasites accumulate.
The drug "Frontline" (reviews can be read on the forums) - low-risk tool. If used in recommended doses, the drug does not have a skin-resorptive, embryotoxic, sensitizing, mutagenic and teratogenic effect. If substance gets into eyes, mild irritation may develop.
Indications for use
Apply a remedy to get rid of dogs and cats from fleas, lashing, lice and ticks. “Frontline” is used as follows: break off the tip of the pipette with the medicine, spread the fur in the animal's back area and apply the drug at several points. For cats use 0.5 ml.
The drug protects against the appearance of ticks in cats for 3 weeks, from the imaginal and preimaginal phases of the development of parasites - for 6 weeks. It prevents the occurrence of ixodic ticks in dogs during the month, protects from adult parasites for at least 3 months, and from the pre-imaginal phases of the development of parasites - up to 8 months.
The drug "Frontline" in the form of drops can not be used for puppies under the age of eight weeks. In this case, apply the spray "Frontline". After treatment with the agent, it is recommended to walk with a pet in the area of possible attack of ticks only after 24 hours. Within two days after using the drug should not bathe the dog.

In the article, I talked about the frontline spray. Explained for what is used and how it works, what it consists of and in what form it is produced. She described how the dosage is calculated and the drug is used, which are contraindications and side effects. Brought the price of the spray, analogues, shelf life and storage conditions.
What is frontline
In 1997, the veterinary companies Merck & Co and Sanofi-Aventis formed a subsidiary of Merial. In January 2017, the German company acquired this branch and began to actively engage in the development of modern veterinary drugs.
It is interesting! The company introduced the Frontline line of innovative insecticide-acaricidal preparations to the market. The active ingredient is fipronil, which acts on the nervous system of the parasite and neutralizes it.
Frontline is also able to act on pests even at the stage of eggs and larvae, destroying their chitinous shell.. For the animal itself, the drug is safe, as it does not penetrate into the blood, but only accumulates in the sebaceous glands.
Frontline release forms
There are five forms of drug release:

This drug manifests itself safely against even pregnant and lactating dogs. Acts exclusively on the nervous system of parasites. In cases of accidental ingestion of the drug in the mouth, the salivation in the dogs increased for a while, then the reaction disappeared, without leading to further consequences.

- A 250 ml frontline spray will cost an average of 1,500 rubles.
Important! Any drugs should be bought in specialized veterinary pharmacies. Buying in other places does not guarantee the authenticity of the drug and the safety of its use for the life and health of not only the pet, but also the person himself.
In regions, prices fluctuate, the difference is 15-20%.
I use Frontline for more than two and a half years, using ticks during the attack. I drip on the withers first and spray a little. Quite a bit. As a result, no ticks! and earlier, five pieces after the walk took off.
A wonderful tool and most importantly, what is convenient, there is a large dosage! Up to 60 kg. I have three bullmastiffs, so it is very convenient and it turns out even cheaper than buying separately and combining, calculating grams.
I am absolutely pleased with the use of Frontline. We discovered it about three years ago. From personal observations: I noticed that the drug, which is produced by France, acts much more efficiently than that produced in Poland. When buying, I always choose France, in the same pharmacy, works with a bang. But an important point! Dog breeders shared that some dogs have Front Line intolerance. It can reach anaphylactic shock and even death.
Important! And you can not use together with the "anti-flea" collars in any case!

The mechanism of action of fipronil is to block the GABA-dependent receptors of the parasite, in violation of the transmission of nerve impulses, which ultimately leads to paralysis and death of the parasites. Fipronil has no effect on mammalian GABA receptors.
When applied to the skin of an animal, the drug is practically not absorbed and during the day is evenly distributed over the surface of the body, accumulating in the sebaceous glands of the skin, providing a prolonged insect-acaricidal effect.
INDICATIONS. Assign cats and dogs against ectoparasites: fleas, lice, lashing, ixodid ticks, cheyletyell. For the treatment of otodektoz (ear scabies) in animals.
DOSES AND METHODS OF APPLICATION. Frontline Spot It is applied externally by topical (spot) application to the skin. Description and effect of the drug
One of the most well-known medicines in this series is drops on the withers for Frontline Combo dogs.
It is based on two active ingredients - fipronil and (S) -methoprene. Fipronil acts on adult parasites, causing paralysis in contact with them, which leads to their subsequent death. A (S) -methoprene affects the eggs and larvae of insects, thereby interrupting the cycle of their development, and hence the risk of re-invasion. Plus, this feature will help protect the dwelling itself, because the reproduction of these parasites and further infection of the dog’s habitat stops completely.
All drops for Frontline dogs have the same principle of action, so the instructions for them are almost identical. Immediately after contact with the skin of the animal, the substance begins to be distributed and gradually cover the entire skin and coat. This process is completed within 24 hours. The drug does not enter the bloodstream, but accumulates in the outer layer of the skin, hair follicles and sebaceous glands, creating a protective barrier. This kind of shield protects the dog from ticks for four weeks, and from fleas - 4-12 weeks. The duration of the protective effect can be affected only by frequent bathing of the pet with shampoo (more than 2 times a month).
To date, there is a whole range of tools aimed at protecting the animal from fleas and ticks, produced under the brand name Frontline.
