Learn more about the breed of Singaporean cat. The origin of the breed of Singaporean cat, appearance, character, colors, care, price and nurseries.

A Singaporean cat is a breed of cats whose homeland still cannot decide on its attitude towards it. Some say that this cat is Kucinta, which means “cat of love”, while others call her “child of gutters”. Can such contradictory reviews be about the same pussy? And what is a Singaporean cat, really?

The origin of the breed

The history of the breed is spy passions. On the island of Singapore, cats, the ancestors of the future breed, were found in abundance and mainly in the drainpipes and ditches. When the government reconstructed the sewer system, part of the cat population died. And, perhaps, these beauties would have disappeared altogether with time, but chance intervened.

A certain American (Mr. Meadow), supposedly a geophysicist, visiting Singapore for business, spotted unusual cats and sent four Asian women to his girlfriend in America. The breeders then were very interested in miniature breeds and four Minikas (or rather a cat and three cats) were very interesting for breeders. How was the breeding work of Meadow and his friends - is unknown.

But 10 years later, other breeders decided to try their luck and replenish American nurseries with fresh Singaporean specimens.

It was then that Mr. Meadow appeared on the scene again, who tried to prove that the honor of the founder of the breed belongs to him. But it turned out that in Singapore he had a secret mission and to prove the fact that it was he who transported the first Asian women to the New World turned out to be impossible.

Be that as it may, the freshly-born Singaporeans found a common language with the already existing American cats and, jumping from rags to riches, Kucinta became universal favorites! Something this breed is similar to the Ceylon cats.

Breed description singapore cat

No pictures can convey the special glow that comes from Singaporean cats. Their eyes shine and literally every fur! This glow of the breed standard, of course, did not include in the description, but it is impossible to ignore the act that singapore women are very resplendent!

  1. The head is very neat and rounded. Noticeable roundness from the outer corners of the eyes to the whisker break and the rounded profile are characteristic features of the breed:
  • nose is blunt, slightly below the level of the eyes noticeable stop The nose and chin should form a straight line
  • ears are big. The small size of the ears - disqualification feature. Auricles deep. Their outer sides should be either parallel or slightly divorced upwards,
  • the eyes are large and very shiny, the shape is almond-shaped. They are set obliquely and the distance between the eyes does not exceed the width of the eye. Eye color may be green, yellowish green or yellow. Red, gray, black admixture excluded. What does this cat look like due to its special look? As if she had just been greatly surprised. Astonishment in a look in any situation is noted by all owners of these beauties.
  1. Until recently, the Singapore cat was considered the smallest in the world. Singapore kittens are really quite tiny, but they are very strong and muscular.

Limbs are medium in size and really powerful. Paws are small and oval.

The length of the tail according to the standard should be such that the tail lying along the body reaches the cat's shoulders. The tail itself should not be whipped, it is thinner to the tip and rounded.

Adult cats weigh about 2 kg, and cats gain weight up to 3 kg and this is their maximum.

  1. A Singaporean kitten should not be silky to the touch. This quality of wool, as well as its excessive softness - disqualification signs. Wool in adult animals is thin, short. Long hair can be found only in small kittens.

Differences Singapore from cats of other breeds - this is the size, and a special look, and, of course, an unusual color of pink shade!

Each hair has at least two areas of dark ticking, between which the light zone passes. At the base of the hairs are light, to the tip - dark. Wool practically does not fade.

The dark is also the tip of the tail, the strip along the entire length of the tail and along the upper part of the body. The strip can pass along the inner surface of the front legs and along the knees of the hind limbs.

Only two colors are recognized by international organizations: “sable” and “ivory”.

White mark, rings on the tail, no ticking on the head - are not allowed.

"Do not stand and jump, and also do not scream where there is construction" and where the Singapore cat lives. Animals of this breed are fearful and do not tolerate when they quarrel or buzz a little near. Features of Singapore have become their virtues. Yes, they are very careful with new people. Yes, they need time to look and smell. But on the other hand, they are delicate and do not shock guests at home with insane antics.

Madness is not their style at all. A Singaporean cat will cheat with pleasure, but only when it is expected of her.

According to the owners, the character of Singapore is friendly and peaceful. But you need to know that a person for them will never become an authority, regardless of the correctness of care and care. They, of course, will show their tenderness in every way (for example, stomp their paws) and take reciprocal human affection, but they always make decisions on their own, based on their own feline experience.

They themselves are excellent and caring parents and human cubs, if there are such in the family, will be accepted as relatives and will be constantly taking care of.

Small-sized cat is also different in that it develops rather slowly. The full development of Singapore is reached only by two years. Kennels Singaporean cats give kittens "to the world" at 12-16 weeks of age.

Like any cat bred by nature itself, the Singapore cat is famous for its good health.

Only occasionally there is an increased sensitivity to vaccination.

You also need to know that Singapore is poorly tolerated by drafts. How to determine that a cat has a cold? Pay attention to such symptoms as:

  • discharge from the nose and eyes,
  • general lethargy of the animal,
  • regular sneezing
  • slight increase in temperature.

If you have these symptoms, you need to contact a veterinary clinic. The common cold is simply treated, but it is better to prevent the possibility of the disease and to protect the animal from the cold that she does not like so much. Perhaps that is why in Ukraine and in Russia singapore are rarely found.

However, the wide popularity of the breed is also hampered by the fact that in the litter of one cat no more than 4 kittens are born.

The life span of a Singaporean breed cat is 15 years.

Care and maintenance

Eliminate drafts, brush hair once every two weeks, and periodically wipe your ears and eyes - and an Asian cat will be grateful to you!

By the way, many owners note the particular intelligence of the cat when she visits the "ladies' room". Singapuras correctly understand what a large porcelain vase is for and over time, many of them begin to do their business sitting on the toilet. You can speed up this addiction to the toilet by purchasing a special seat for your pet. And do not forget to put a newspaper with crosswords at the same time!

This cat may not follow its figure - Singaporean obesity is not threatened. Diets - for cowards, and the Singapore cat is afraid only of drafts.

However, proper nutrition is the key to well-being.

Natural nutrition should be balanced. It is not necessary to feed a Singaporean cat with pork, sausages, river fish, sweets and entertain with milk. Cereals, lean meat, not red vegetables - the perfect menu for Singapore!

The finished feed should contain at least 30% of the meat, and their digestibility should be at least 80%.

History of origin

The birthplace of the breed is the island of Singapore (Southeast Asia). Here cats were found in abundance and lived, as a rule, in ditches and drainpipes. Closer to the 1970s, the cat population became so extensive that the island government decided to organize a campaign against these animals. A huge number of cats died during the reconstruction of the drainage system of Singapore. Only some of them saved the case.

At this time an American Mr. Meadow flew to the island. After seeing several Singaporean cats of unusual miniature size, he took them with him to the USA. In those years, America was very interested in compact breeds of animals. Mr. Meadow gave the brought cats to his friend, who set about breeding.

The breed standard was adopted in 1981, and the breed received official registration only after three years.

Today, Singaporean cats are a rarity. There are very few representatives of this breed both in Europe and in Russia. As for Fr. Singapore, there is now a breed is considered a national treasure, and it is very difficult to remove such cats from the country.

Representatives of this breed are miniature animals whose weight does not exceed 2-2.5 kg (females) and 3 kg (males). Cats singapore are listed in the Guinness Book of Records due to its size.

The characteristics of purebred Singapore include:

  • head is round, snout is neat, chin is developed,
  • the nose is small, slightly dull. Chin with a nose form a straight line,
  • large ears with deep shells. The outer sides of the ears are slightly divorced upwards or parallel,
  • eyes very big, slanting, brilliant. Almond-shaped, green or yellow. Eyes very clearly express the emotional mood of the cat. Usually, Singapore has a surprised look,
  • the body has a rectangular shape, athletic folded. Looks proportionally with long, neat legs,
  • tail rounded at the tip, gradually tapering towards the end. Its length should be such that in the supine position of the cat he reaches to her shoulders,
  • coat short, soft, without undercoat.

Representatives of this breed have an unusual pink shade of their fur coats. On each wool you can notice two areas of dark ticking, interspersed with light color. At the base of the hairs lighter, at the ends - darker.

On the body, the color distribution is as follows.

The tip of the tail, as well as the line running along the tail and back, is dark. Shaded stripes can also be located on the inner surface of the front paws and in the middle of the rear.

The rest of the body is the main, lighter, color.

The overall color of the cat breed of Singapore can be:

  • sable brown, turning into more lightened areas in the chin and chest,
  • "Ivory". In this case, the body has a shade of golden cream, and dark brown blotches are present on the head, ears and back.

Only these two variants of Singapore color are recognized in the USA. External signs such as white markings, the absence of ticking on the head, the presence of rings on the tail are disqualifying.

The Singapore cat breed is notable for its friendliness, tenderness, and lack of aggression. These animals do not tolerate quarrels at all, they will not be where someone shouts, shows negative emotions. Having noticed this behavior, the cat will be frightened and hurry to leave.

Singapore cats love their owners, accompany them in housework and entertainment. However, they cannot be intrusive or overly dependent. The roots of the breed, which previously lived on the street without a person, make themselves felt. Singapuras are independent, they do not tend to submit to authority.

These cats are not prone to crazy antics. Their character is quite predictable, they will play when they are expected to do this. Singapuras feel finely the mood of people who can help in difficult times. They love children and can become for them the real “eared babysitters”.

Singapore will maintain relationships with other animals at the proper level. These cats get along well with other cats, dogs, hamsters, parrots and other fluffy and feathered inhabitants of the home.

This breed is characterized by cleanliness, so do not worry that the cat will confuse the toilet with one of the corners of the house. However, ensuring the purity of the tray from the owner is an important condition for the pet.

Cats of Singapore breed are wonderful mothers, one of the best among the representatives of the feline world. They are very kind to their kids, which can be taken from the mother no earlier than in three months.

The Singapore cat is miniature, and its physical development is very slow. Fully developed representatives of this breed are considered only to achieve two years. Life expectancy of such cats reaches 15 years.

In general, Singaporean cat health is strong, only sometimes there is a sensitivity to vaccination.

Also, Singaporean females may experience difficulty in delivery. It is necessary to show the pet to the vet during pregnancy, especially closer to the lamb.

The doctor, based on his observations, will decide on natural childbirth or cesarean section. By the way, in the litter of one cat there are no more than 4 kittens.

Protect Singapore from drafts - she does not love them.

Maintenance and care

Singaporean hair is rather short, but it still needs to be combed twice a month. Do not forget about the care of eyes, ears, teeth. Clean them regularly and trim the claws.

Keep the dishes and tray clean, and the cat will thank you.

Representatives of the Singapore breed are far from picky in their food, and will eat everything they are given. However, follow the pet's diet is important to maintain its health.

In addition to dry food and canned food, give the cat fresh food: cottage cheese, sour cream, milk, fish, and various cereals.

Get vaccinated regularly, visit a veterinarian, and your pet will feel great.

Cats breed Singapore - gentle and clean, calm and independent. In their person you will find wonderful friends for yourself and tender babysitters for your children.

Photo

Singapore recognized the cat for its only 20 years ago, making it a talisman of the island. On numerous photos of tourists you can see all kinds of sculptures of Singapore cats. And although today the smallest breed of cats in the world recognized toy toybobs, Singaporeans prefer not to know about it and extol their miniature beauty.

Where to buy a Singaporean kitten

Today, Singapore still belongs to rare breeds. It is common in the United States, but in Europe there is almost no Singapore.

So where to buy a Singaporean cat? In Russia, and, in particular, in Moscow, there are several nurseries, but in Kiev and Minsk specialized nurseries are not registered. This is due to the small number of kittens in the litter (demand is ahead of supply) and to the fact that breeders treat the breed very carefully, without diluting the blood and excluding rejected specimens from breeding.

The price for a kitten without a package of documents is about 20,000 rubles (6,500 UAH), while the cost of a show-class kitten reaches 120,000 rubles (45,000 UAH).

The history of the breed Singaporean cat

The wild ancestors of the Singaporean cat lived on the island of Singapore and were not too respected by the local population, as they mostly lived in ditches and drainpipes. After the reconstruction of the sewer system by the Singapore government, a significant part of the population of these animals died.

It looks like a wild Singaporean cat

And it is not known what their fate would have ended if geophysicist Hal Meadow had not appeared on the island on official business at about this time. The scientist's wife was a felinologist and, at that time, even a CFF judge, so he immediately turned his attention to unusual cats. The story goes that he sent four animals to his wife Tommy in the USA (three cats and one cat) in 1971. The woman took up breeding a new breed, but did not keep any records about the mating. In 1974, the descendants of the first Singaporeans were taken back to their home island, where the spouses Meadow went to work.

A year later, these cats were first presented at an exhibition in the United States. In the 1980s, several more individuals of this breed were introduced, which took part in the development of the gene pool. But the official date of birth of the breed is considered to be 1975, because, due to the confidential nature of the work of her husband, Tommy had to hide the true state of affairs and the origin of her pets.

As a result of selection work, the color of Singapore has become smoother.

Since Tommy was a breeder of Burmese and Abyssinian cats, it was long rumored that Singapore is not a natural breed, but was bred as a result of crossing.

The standard breed of Singapore has been described in 1981

However, the breed was standardized in 1981. In the mid-80s, it was officially recognized by many phenological communities. Champion status of Singapore received in 1988.

The author does not guarantee 100% accuracy of the information provided, as other breeders took part in the development of the breed of Singaporean cats. Perhaps their contribution was more significant. But, I think, this is not particularly important for ordinary cat lovers.

Appearance of singapore cat

Островные сингапурские кошки отличаются миниатюрностью, стройностью и изящностью. But their bones are strong, and their stocky, slightly stretched body has a well-developed muscular system.

Singapore has a small but muscular body.

According to the Singapore standard, the following breed characteristics are inherent:

  • rectangular body, slightly angular,
  • powerful limbs of medium length with small, very neat, graceful paws ending in a medium-sized hard pad,
  • the neck is short and powerful enough
  • weight: females - 2–2.5 kg, male - 2.5–3.4 kg,
  • small round head with a short, well-defined chin,
  • a dull little nose is one line with the chin,
  • large ears are wide open at the base, placed not very far from each other, the tips are slightly pointed,
  • very large diagonal eyes, almond-shaped, with a noticeable inclination to the outer corner, wide open, not sunken and not bulging, between the eyes a distance not less than the width of the eye is allowed,
  • eye color is green or yellow, as well as greenish-yellow without black, red and gray impurities,
  • the expression of the eyes is always a little surprised
  • the tail is not very long, thin, with a blunt tip; if it is placed along the torso of a cat, then it should reach its shoulder girdle.

The coat of Singaporean cats is short, without undercoat and tight to the body. The coat is fine shiny, not too soft, but not hard. Small kittens can have a more delicate and silky fur.

The color of a Singaporean cat can be only one - sepia agouti

The CFA allowed color is only sepia agouti - on the basic light tone, close in color to ivory, dark brown ticking. Each hair should be light at the base (near the skin) and must be dark at the end, and also have at least two dark stripes alternating with light. The tip of the tail is brown with a smooth transition to the back. Allowed dark band along the ridge. The muzzle, chest, chin and abdomen of a very light warm brownish shade. Not pronounced strips are on the inside of the front paws and on the knees of the hind limbs. Between the brownish-pink paw pads there are bunches of dark brown wool.

The color of the nose mirror varies from light salmon to dark. Brown edging at the nostrils, eyes, lips and pads with a mustache. The hair on the cheeks is also dark. On the face is a characteristic cheetah pattern, when the brown lines are located at the outer edge of the eyes and eyebrows, and also go to the nose down from the inner corners of the eyes.

Singaporean cat has very cute face

Singapore cats are very rare and expensive, so you will rarely see them at shows. We saw only once a cat with a kitten. They made an impression of some kind of toy and caramel creatures. Mama-cat herself is a little, a little bigger cat than an ordinary cat, and her cub is so tiny in general. The eyes are completely unreal, not a single living being has such a look. The coat is thin, as if slicked, but at the same time it has a very healthy shiny look. The owners did not allow their pets to touch, they were probably afraid to injure the delicate feline psyche.

Singapore Cat Character

Singaporean cats have a very active, playful and restless character. The love of outdoor games persists in this breed throughout life. Singapore is always on the move and it seems that fatigue is unknown to her. As a friend in entertainment can choose another pet living in the same territory. No matter who it will be - a dog, a bird and even a hamster. In any animals, this cat will easily find a common language. With children, they can be left completely calm, they will humbly endure all the childish pranks and will never offend the little owners.

Singapore cats constantly run and play

Aggression is not typical of this breed, all of its representatives are friendly, gentle, affectionate and agreeable. They quickly become attached to a person and try to follow their master relentlessly, keeping him company in all household chores. Thanks to the developed mental abilities, Singapore cats are capable of learning, they train well, quickly memorize their nickname and easily perform simple commands.

Singapore very rarely meows. She manifests a quiet and gentle voice only in emergency situations.

With all the loving these animals are completely unobtrusive. They understand when the owners are not up to them and at this time are able to occupy themselves. But as soon as someone from home is released and sits down for a moment to rest, Singapore immediately materializes from nowhere and sits on his knees.

Singapuras are very inquisitive and curious.

Island cats are curious, like all cats. They like to observe all the surroundings from the height of a cabinet or a refrigerator, the small size does not prevent them from climbing and jumping well. With strangers and objects behave very carefully. Cats need time to get used to the new. They will sit in a safe, secluded place and carefully monitor the events. Realizing that there is no danger, the pet leaves the shelter, but will behave cautiously.

Singapore cats are sensitive and shy, so do not make noise in their presence. They absolutely do not tolerate excessive vanity and loud sounds. Quarrels, shouts and swearing will be a great stress for them and will force them to crouch in the farthest corner.

We have a Siamese cat living at home that has a distinctly Singaporean character. Nature was wrong with her coloring. Flinches and looks around at any sounds, from strangers hiding under a sofa or in your house. But this is not at all cowardly, but rather cautious. To strangers after some adaptation is quite loyal, but she herself never will go.

Acquisition of a Singaporean cat

The number of purebred Singapore cats in the world is small. This breed is more popular and common in the United States of America. In Europe, specialized nurseries quite a bit. But nevertheless, you can find kittens. In Russia, there are several breeders who are professionally engaged in breeding Singapore.

It is very difficult to buy a Singaporean kitten

Criterias of choice

It is almost impossible to confuse Singaporean babies with another breed, because they are much smaller in size than other kittens of the same age. The color of them is formed very early and the cubs look like adult animals. The only thing that the fur can be a little longer, fluffier and softer to the touch.

It is necessary to acquire kittens only from reliable breeders with a good reputation or in specialized nurseries. Immediately you need to decide on what class you need a pet. If an animal of a show class with an exhibition activity right is required, the seller must provide a pedigree confirming at least four generations of Singapore. The cost of such individuals is very high and can reach up to 150 thousand rubles and more. Pet-class (as a pet) will cost several times cheaper. Here, everything is determined by the existing vices in the exterior (absence of bands on the face, bright spots, defects of the tail, etc.). At the same time, an item on the need for sterilization or castration of an animal (the prohibition of breeding) will necessarily be present in the contract of sale.

Small kittens have a longer and softer coat

Before making a decision, it is necessary to get acquainted with the parents of the future pet. They should visually look like Singaporean island cats and have documentary evidence of this fact.

Experienced koshkodi advise you to pay attention to such factors:

  • the eyes and ears look healthy, they are clean and have no suspicious secretions,
  • the hair is silky and soft, without rolled and stuck together areas,
  • the teeth are even and white,
  • the tummy is soft, with little pressure on him the baby does not feel much discomfort,
  • the animal may be a bit shy (this is typical for the breed), but not excessively,
  • the kitten should look healthy (do not cough, sneeze, rub eyes, etc.).

Age kitty

Small island cats develop relatively slowly, so kittens are given no earlier than 3-4 months. If a long distance move of the pet is expected (another city, country, etc.), then the cubs are separated from the mother after 4–4.5 months.

Kittens give no earlier than 3-4 months

Pet Content Singapore

In the content of the Singapore cats do not cause any special difficulties. But this breed absolutely does not tolerate low temperatures and drafts, the tropical climate suits them much more.

To feeding Singapore does not make any special claims, apparently affects the past hard life and food garbage. These cats will be happy to consume both ready-made cat food and natural food.

The amount and composition of food

Singapore breed is not prone to overeating and obesity. Excessive activity and mobility allows them to fully consume calories consumed and not to postpone anything. This animal will not eat more than it needs. He does not differ by special gluttony and insatiability. The recommended amount of feed is no more than 25–30 g per 1 kg of live weight.

Singapore cats recommended feed premium class

The natural menu of island cats should include the following products:

  • boiled or pre-frozen and thawed meat (fillet - rabbit, turkey, lean beef),
  • cereal porridge (barley, rice, buckwheat, rolled oats, etc.),
  • quail eggs,
  • low-fat cottage cheese and sour cream,
  • boiled vegetables (beets, carrots, potatoes, cabbage, etc.),
  • fruits (bananas, peaches, mango, etc.) as a delicacy.

Singapore cats can be given fruit as a treat

Experienced breeders advise to choose cat food, containing not more than 30% of the meat component, and with high digestibility (not less than 80%).

It is necessary to have clean drinking water in the accessibility zone, which is changed daily.

How many times a day to feed a pet

First, babies are fed 5–6 times a day with special wet food for kittens.. Then gradually transferred to adult food and the number of meals per day is reduced to two times.

Small kittens are first fed with special feeds, and then gradually transferred to adult food.

The role of a balanced diet in cat health

For the harmonious and proper development of such small cats, a balanced diet is of particular importance. Incorrectly chosen food can slow down the development and growth of a small pet and even cause some pathologies. An adult cat needs to fully replenish the energy spent on endless running around and playing.

Such foods are absolutely contraindicated:

  • River fish,
  • milk,
  • sausages and smoked meats,
  • pork,
  • pastries and sweets.

With natural nutrition, Singaporean cats must be given vitamins and minerals.

For natural nutrition, you will definitely need to additionally give your pet mineral and vitamin complexes.

Experienced breeders believe that it is better to opt for ready-made premium class feed, because it contains all the necessary components for the normal functioning of the feline body.

Combing

Island cats are notable for their particular cleanliness, they lick thoroughly and do a great job with a short thin coat. To remove dead hairs, they are combed no more than once a week with a special brush for short-haired animals. They shed invisible to the owners, so no additional measures are required.

For combing dead hair use a soft brush-mitten

To care for your pet's coat, we use a special mitten. The process of combing can be significantly accelerated, if you wear gloves on both hands. Our cat does not like this procedure, so you need to do everything quickly and painlessly.

Singapore cats often bathe there is no need. It is enough to carry out water procedures once every 2-3 months.

Ear care

Since the ears of this breed are rather large, their condition should be closely monitored. About once a week, the pet's ears are inspected and rubbed with a special ear care product (sold in pet stores and veterinary pharmacies) or chlorhexidine. Cotton pads and sticks gently remove accumulated sulfur deposits and dirt.

Singaporeap ears should be regularly cleaned with a cotton swab dipped in a special solution.

We examine our cat's ears once in two weeks. Having turned the auricle out, gently wipe inside with a damp cotton swab. If you can not remove all the dirt from the folds, then go to cotton swabs.

Eye care

Wipe eyes daily recommended. To do this, use cotton pads and special solutions, as well as decoctions of herbs (chamomile, calendula, St. John's wort, etc.) or just warm boiled water.

Eyes and ears can be treated with special wet wipes.

On sale you can find wet wipes designed to care for the eyes of animals.

Claw care

Claws of this breed, though small, but very sharp, so they need to be trimmed at least once every 2-3 weeks, using a claw cutter (special scissors). It is necessary to provide the pet with the opportunity to sharpen claws on its own and provide it with a claw, or rather several.

Claws need to be trimmed 1 time in 2-3 weeks

Singapours are extremely restless and mobile, so they need to acquire large multifunctional gaming complexes. They should have a lot of different toys, ladders, hammocks and stove beds, as well as scratching posts, tunnels, shelter houses, etc.

Teeth care

To maintain healthy teeth, it is recommended to brush them 2-3 times a week using a soft brush and a special paste for animals that do not need to be washed off. It can be found on the shelves of large shopping centers, in specialized pet stores and veterinary pharmacies.

At least once a week the cat needs to brush its teeth.

Many owners of Singaporean cats celebrate their amazing cleanliness. They very quickly learn to handle the natural needs of their pot. Any tray design will do. But it is better to buy a private option, because these shy animals love solitude at such moments. The choice of filler depends on the personal preferences of the owner and taking into account the wishes of the pet. At the initial stage, small kittens are advised to pour granules of paper or wood, they will not cause harm if accidentally swallowed.

For a Singaporean cat is better to buy trays closed

Singapore, despite its small size, can independently learn to walk on the toilet. To help her learn, you can use a special pad.

For all of our cats, we have always used coniferous filler. It smells good, absorbs odors well and is quite inexpensive. Several times they tried to offer the cat other pellets (lumpy filler), but she flatly refused to go to them and everyone strove to sit next to the pot. I had to go to meet her.

In walking in the fresh air of Singapore does not need. But if suddenly such a need is found in a pet, then you need to monitor the weather and, if necessary, wear it warmly. These heat-loving animals catch cold very quickly.

Propensity to disease

The lack of genetic diversity in a Singaporean cat leads to the following health problems:

  1. Infertility.
  2. Inertness of the uterus. Muscle tissue is badly reduced, as a result of which the animal cannot give birth to itself. Natural childbirth is impossible, so you have to do a cat cesarean section.
  3. Tendency to catarrhal diseases (low immunity). The temperature rises, mucous discharge from the nose and eyes appears, the animal coughs and sneezes. There is a general lethargy.
  4. Pyruvate kinase deficiency. A genetic disorder associated with a lack of a special glycolytic enzyme that leads to hemolytic anemia. It is expressed in reduced appetite, general lethargy, loss of hair, etc. Sometimes a rapid development of severe anemia that threatens the life of a pet is possible. More noticeable clinical manifestations are in age animals.

Malformations

The following signs are considered to be disadvantages of the appearance of Singaporean cats:

  • elastic, too soft or long wool,
  • wool coat in cool or gray shades,
  • stripes on the outside of the limbs,
  • dark color of the hairs at the skin itself,
  • palpable, but visually invisible defects of the tail.

Strict requirements are imposed on the appearance of a Singaporean cat.

Singapore has a number of defects in appearance, which do not allow to take part in exhibitions and lead to the disqualification of an animal:

  • Blue eyes,
  • White spots,
  • well visible tail defects,
  • no ticking on the head
  • transverse bands (rings) on the tail,
  • small eyes and ears
  • necklace stripes on the neck and legs
  • any color except the standard pedigree (sepia agouti).

At what age to give a pet to the first mating

Singaporean cats develop slowly and reach sexual maturity by about two years, cats a little earlier.

Kittens can be born weak and even unviable.

For a long time we lived a cat (also Siamese). She lived a free life, walked where she wanted and was looking for partners for herself. It so happened that she became pregnant while she was still practically a kitten. She was at that time months 7-8. She could not bear offspring, there was a miscarriage. Then she was very sick and came to her senses. All subsequent pregnancies were surprisingly easy and without any negative consequences.

A Singaporean cat usually gives birth to 3-4 kittens

How often can you give birth to a cat

It all depends on the physical data of the animal itself. Most experienced breeders and veterinarians recommend knitting cats no more than 1-2 times a year.

With Singapore, given the problems with the generic activities, everything is somewhat more complicated. If there was a caesarean section, then it is not necessary to reduce the female again earlier 2-2.5 years. If the birth was natural, then you can follow the general recommendations of veterinarians.

At what age to perform the operation

On average, females of almost all breeds are advised to perform an operation in 8–12 months. It is better to have time before the first heat, but you can and later. It is not necessary to delay strongly, it is desirable to make it up to two years. Males operate in the period from 10 months to 1.5-2 years.

Given the late periods of puberty of Singaporean cats, all terms can be safely shifted by at least 8-10 months.

The older the animal, the harder it endures surgery. The risk of negative consequences increases. If it is too early to castrate or sterilize, then pet development can be delayed.

Pet care after surgery

Not all pets tolerate surgery equally well, so after surgery, in order to avoid negative consequences and complications, it is necessary to carefully observe the animals.

Competent care after castration and sterilization is as follows:

  • provide your pet peace and quiet
  • immediately after the manipulations put on a special "Elizabethan" collar or postoperative strip,
  • remove the bandage and treat the stitches with chlorhexidine, hydrogen peroxide or another disinfectant at least once a day,
  • 10–12 hours after surgery not to feed,
  • limit the mobility of the pet and do not allow him to pull off his boot and collar.

After a sterilization or castration operation, a protective collar or a post-operative boot should be worn on the pet.

If the stitches begin to get wet and fester, or the pet looks bad, refuses to eat for more than three days, and in any other alarming situations, you should immediately contact the veterinary clinic.

Cat-doll with a "dark" past

A Singaporean breed of cats was introduced to the CFA commission by the 1981 breeders Hal and Tommy Meadow in 1981. According to the husband and wife, they picked up three typical inhabitants of the streets of the Asian city-state Singapore in the mid-seventies almost in the gutter, and therefore their pets Tickle, Poussi and Tes may well claim to be “hereditary surname” and be called singapore .

Charming cats impressed felinologists, and a year later the breed was accepted for registration. And everything would be fine if, after some time, one of the fans of this breed did not decide to bring Aboriginal cats from Singapore for breeding. What was his surprise when he didn’t find animals like Meadow’s pets on the streets!

Awkward situation

Moreover, it turned out that the truncated trinity, before being removed from the island, was imported there by the same breeders. And considering that Meadow had been breeding Burmese and Abyssinians before this, the new breed was suspiciously similar to the result of their crossing.

However, the scandal that started was quickly hush up. The breed was left alone, converging on the fact that Singapore, Burmese and Abyssinians in general unites Asian origin. In addition, the standard of the Chico cat breed was presented as evidence, this time indeed brought from Singapore - this was confirmed by documents.

In order to finally dot the i's, the enterprising couple Meadow admitted that the founders of the breed are just descendants of street cats from the Asian island, whom they allegedly brought to America without documents in the early 1970s.

Anyway, now the Singaporean cat breed is recognized by the majority of felinological organizations, there are nurseries in many countries of the world.

Body type

Despite their small size, Singaporean cats are compact, muscular and strong, with a short and strong neck. Paws and tail are medium. At the same time, there should be no stripes on the outside of the legs, and the tip of the tail must be dark.

Many people call the appearance of Singapore angelic. The Singapore cat is the owner of a round head and a rather wide blunt nose with a light foot. The eyes of these cats are very large, almond-shaped, openly surprised and widely spaced. Their color may be walnut yellow, greenish yellow or olive. The ears are also large, wide at the base and slightly pointed at the tips.

Special signs

Miniature sizes and the only color option are the main distinguishing features of Singapore. To some it may seem that these cats are just inconspicuous and speckled. But fans of this breed come up with the most romantic comparisons to describe their hairs - with sunshine, cloud, golden sand and earth.

Officially, a cream coat with a brown ticking on the head, back and tail is tricky called sepia agouti. On each wool there are at least two dark stripes, despite the fact that the root is necessarily light, and the tip is vice versa.

Cats of Singapore - short-haired. Their wool - silky, soft and shiny - due to the complex color seems pearly and fits tightly to the body.

An indispensable condition of the breed - contrasting "stroke" around the eyes and nose, as well as marks on the head. The nose is salmon-colored, and the paw pads are brownish-pink.

Activity

At the same time, singapore is not lezheboki, they love to run, jump and climb somewhere higher. Therefore, it will be very good if the little cat has a large living space and a lot of different toys.

Playfulness is a trait of character, which is quite vividly expressed among representatives of the Singaporean breed. They say that if such a cat wants to play, it will definitely make it so that the owner will start to frolic with it. Therefore, Singaporean - playful and completely non-aggressive - great friends for young family members, they are highly recommended for families with kids.

Relationship with the owner

The one with whom lives a Singaporean cat, the happy owner of the most affectionate and anxious pet. Such animals love caress and spend time with pleasure on the hands or knees of a person. Although singapore are not talkers, they can answer with their small voice to the speech addressed to them. And they often amuse the owners by the fact that they stand on their hind legs for a long time, like marmots or meerkats.

Features care Singapore

In general, the Singaporean breed is characterized by good health, hereditary and genetic diseases for these cats are not listed. Perhaps the only truly problematic issue is childbirth - because of the inertia of the uterus, breeders are advised not to take the risk of doing a C-section to cats. In addition, Singapore is advised to protect from drafts to reduce the risk of possible colds.

Content requirements

There are no special requirements for the maintenance of these animals. Routine vaccination schedule, cleaning the ears and teeth from time to time - these basic manifestations of care will be quite enough. By the way, Singaporean cats are very clean and smart, it is believed that they easily “master” the toilet, if you buy a special cat's seat.

Grooming

The Singaporean short, devoid undercoat wool does not give the owner a lot of trouble even during the moult. According to the owners, such a pet is enough to comb a couple of times a month.

But Singapore food must be kept under strict control. The fact is that these kids love to eat very much and are prone to gaining extra weight. Therefore, those who have chosen ready-made food for pets should be given strictly according to the norm. Fans of "naturalka" need to ensure that it is well balanced.

Cat-baby, of course, not against walking in the fresh air. But, as already mentioned, drafts are dangerous for heat-loving animals - this must be taken into account. We can not forget about the flea collars. And, of course, the owner must be sure that the pet will not get away - for such a crumb to escape, the smallest gap is enough.

Singapore breed of cats: cons

Singaporean cats will not suit very busy people who are away from home for a long time. In all other respects, these are almost perfect pets.

Of course, not everyone can afford such animals. The price of kittens even with dubious pedigree starts from a few hundred dollars. Pet for exhibitions will cost several thousand in US currency, in Russian rubles we are talking about hundreds of thousands. And there are not so many good Singapore nurseries in Russia.

So, the future owner will have to not only fork out thoroughly, but also spend time searching for a breeder with a good reputation.

Feeding Singapore cats

Kitties of this breed are picky in food: they can eat both ready-made dry and wet food, as well as natural food. They rarely have digestive disorders, but still recommended to adhere to the following rules:

  • include in the diet lean meat of animals or poultry (preferably frostbite), dairy products, not red boiled vegetables,
  • Pork and any fatty meat, river fish (especially raw), sausages are strictly prohibited, milk is poorly absorbed in adult cats,
  • do not feed the animal food from your table, it is harmful to their stomach,
