Burmese cat

Sacred Burma is a surprisingly beautiful cat, the appearance of which is fascinating with its singularity. According to the legends, this breed originates from Burma. The specific color is what distinguishes this cat from the rest.

Interesting legend

But what about the unusual colors? There are several legends here. All of them will not retell. We will now tell one, the most interesting. It says that at first one Buddhist temple was guarded by white long-haired cats with yellow eyes. In this building was kept the golden statue of the goddess, who had bright blue eyes. Once there was a trouble - the robbers attacked the temple. They killed the oldest monk and captured the temple itself. Soon the robbers heard a strange sound. Looking around, they saw a cat that belonged to a monk. He stood with his owner on his head and in some magical way changed. His fur acquired a golden hue, while the tips of the paws, which touched the owner, remained white, and his eyes became bright blue.

Seeing such a miracle, the defenders of the temple were able to find the strength and defeat the robbers. After the incident, the faithful cat remained near the owner for six days, and on the seventh, unfortunately, passed away. It was after this event that the cats in the temple received such an amazing color.

The history of the breed

It is believed that the sacred burma breed appeared in France, where the billionaire in 1910 wanted to deliver a cat and a cat, which he bought in the East. But the cat did not tolerate travel, and the cat was pregnant. It is her young that are considered the forefathers of the breed, although the species itself was not immediately bred, but only as a result of the work of breeders from France.

For the first time this cat was presented at the exhibition in 1926. Standards of the breed were adopted after forty years, at the same time sacred Burma received worldwide recognition. On the territory of the Russian Federation, this type is only beginning to spread, therefore it is extremely rare at exhibitions.

Breed standards and colors

According to the standard, the body of the representatives of the breed is dense, slightly elongated, the size is average. The tail is fluffy, thin, not particularly long. Paws are stocky, short, feet rounded, proportionate in length to the legs. Medium sized head with round cheeks. The nose is small, the chin is pronounced. Pointed ears, small, set slightly at an angle. Round eyes of bright blue color.

The long wool is light beige and the back is golden. Color-point markings are permissible on the face, ears, tail and legs. Spots can also be other tones. For example, the colors of milk chocolate are pinkish gray, dark cinnamon, cream and dark gray. Note that on the feet of this kitty there are bright white “gloves” on the front paws, and on the back ones the same “spurs” (white arrows that reach the middle of the shin behind the paws are necessarily symmetrical).

Life expectancy is fifteen years. Although, due to its good health, cats live a longer life (for example, twenty-five years).

If we talk about reproduction, the pregnancy in such cats lasts as much as in other breeds (about sixty days). In one litter about three or four cubs are born. Note that the kids are very attached to the mother.

Keeping a cat and caring for it

Few kennels sell kittens of this breed, and their maintenance requires that certain conditions be met. To maintain the correct color, you need to exclude from the diet food containing coloring matter. For the same reason, it is necessary to maintain the room where sacred Burma is located, the temperature above twenty degrees.

Long-haired Burma should be combed twice a week, and more often during the molting period, otherwise tangles will appear. It should daily check the eyes, ears. If necessary, then you need to wash them.

Representatives of this breed are not prone to overeating, so they can safely leave food in unlimited quantities. Sacred Burma will never eat more than what is needed. To feed such a beautiful cat you need only high-quality feeds (premium class), which contain a lot of fiber, proteins and, of course, fats.

How to play with kittens and cats of this breed

Kittens are very mobile. Therefore, if you plan to start such a beast, be sure to buy toys. Otherwise, the kittens will be able to find them themselves. With age, playfulness becomes more moderate, after which it remains the same for many years.
Although the cat, which has kittens, is also not averse to having fun with the kids, run for the ball. Burma, of course, is not such a "vocalist" as Siamese, but representatives of the breed also like to express their thoughts in a melodious meow.

Advantages and disadvantages

The main advantage of this breed of cats is charm and character. These purrs love communication. They are smart, playful and inquisitive. They like to be praised. Cats try to always be close to the owners, get along well with the kids and other animals. As a rule, they are conflict-free.

If we talk about shortcomings, then there are no visible ones among them. Is that a minus you can count the cost and complexity in the content.

The origin of the breed

The homeland of the Burmese cat is the state of Myanmar (formerly Burma) on the Indochina peninsula. In ancient times, these cats lived in the temples and revered sacred.

But at the beginning of the last century (approx. 1919), the American millionaire, traveling through the East, was fascinated by what a temple cat looked like and bought a few kittens of this breed for a huge price.

After the Second World War, only 2 cats of this breed existed in Europe. Gradually, the breeders began to revive the Burmese breed, crossing the surviving animals with Siamese and Persian cats. This only benefited the breed - the new representatives of the Burmese cats turned out to be more beautiful than the outside and better in character!

Breed description Burmese cat

Where cats of the Burmese breed go, there is no place for negative emotions - only good and positive. The sacred burma is folded so harmoniously that it can be safely recommended to anyone who sets up his house in Feng Shui.

  1. The head of the Burmese beauty is wide and rounded. The breed standard emphasizes that there are flat areas before the base of the ears:
  • the nose is medium in width and length, the nostrils are low on the nose, there is no stop, but there is a small depression,
  • chin strong and well developed, slightly pointed, correct bite,
  • the ears are average, the width at the base and the length of the ears are equal, the ears are set apart from each other,
  • eyes round, outer corners raised. The expression of the eyes is soft, the color of the eyes is always blue. IMPORTANT! In newborn burm, the eyes are bright blue, then (at three months) they brighten a little, but after that the aquamarine tint returns.
  1. The body of the cats of the Burmese breed by nature received a strong and massive.

Extremities of medium length, substituted. Paws are large and round.

The size of the tail is also medium and proportional to the body. At the base, the tail is covered with sparse wool, and to the tip of the tail, the coat becomes noticeably larger. Such a pubescence is called a sultan. Many Burmese cats hold their tail like a horn, strongly resembling a rhinoceros horn.

The weight of an adult animal is 5-6 kg, and the cats are more noticeably smaller than cats.

The description of the coat and color options of the Burmese cat deserves some laudatory words. Wool can be medium or long, but very silky and does not form tangles. The frill around the neck is rich, with wavy hair on the belly.

There are four known colors of the Burmese: Blue Point, Seal Point, Chocolate, and Lilac Marks. Stripes on wool or "mar" pictures are not allowed. Black, gray, red cat even with a Siamese mask is not a Burmese cat!

Differences between true Burmese and other cats that have Siamese roots in their pedigree: wool on the belly is always lighter than on the back and limbs.

Peculiarities of Burmese cats are noticeable in the color of their paws. On the front paws, the white glove ends in a smooth line across the paw and does not cross the angle of the carpal joint. Full glove symmetry is desirable. Boots on the hind legs cover the entire limb and form a “spur” under the hock. The symmetry of “boots” and “spurs” is welcomed.

IMPORTANT! Burma kittens are born devoid of corporate color, they are absolutely white! Only by half a year Siamese colors, gloves and boots begin to appear. And the final coat color can be formed in three years!

As a true temple cat, the Burmese beauty does not tolerate hustle and bustle. Burmese cats have good manners. Good breeding, along with restraint, is more characteristic of the breed. How to determine that your cat is angry? Just look around. If you do not see it, then, most likely, the sacred cat of Burma chose to proudly retire. Ask forgiveness urgently, and, Hallelujah, the Burmese cat will forgive you, for it is not vindictive.

Temple cat, though a lover of silence, but do not mind and talk. Their voice is gentle, but they serve it often. Reviews of the owners in this matter are harsh: "Well, talker!".

But not mischievous! Even being strongly curious by nature, the Burmese cats will not break the mother-in-law service by jumping on the closet. They don’t like to jump and go awry. Is that a little bit and only if it does not drop their dignity.

With dignity, they take affection and all the "calf tenderness", allow themselves to squeeze children and guests.

But, if a quarrel happens in the house, they are the first demanding: "Meow" will try to resolve the conflict.

Very peaceful character, very intelligent breed! By the way, find out whether it is worth feeding a kitten to the Whiskas.

Cat gods have endowed the temple cat with strong immunity, but, alas, a number of diseases are still characteristic of them.

One of these diseases, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, is quite common.

In addition, experts identify as a hereditary pathology of the vestibular apparatus. Clinical signs of this disease appear at 3-12 weeks of development, but then they can go on their own.

Burma's hereditary disease is corneal dermoids. A course of antibiotics and special drops prescribed by a veterinarian successfully copes with this problem.

In general, the Burmese cat is a very healthy breed, which, moreover, is very prolific!

The largest of the known litters (19 kittens) brought in its time the Burmese cat Antigone. Its owner, Valery Hein, respectfully pressed his paw to a happy daddy - a Siamese cat!

The lifespan of sacred burms is 10-14 years. But there are exceptions! Burmese cat Catalina, who lives in Melbourne, Australia, turned 35 this year. Today it is the oldest cat in the world!

Care and maintenance

The most important thing that the owners should remember is that the Burmese kitten is not capable of living on the street and that he loves heat very much. In order:

  • most often, burma dies because of attempts to break free. They do not know how to properly fall, so escaping from a window leaf is fraught with bad consequences. And the inborn intelligentsia does not allow them to withstand street competition.
  • comfortable indoor air temperature for a Burmese cat - 22 degrees and no less! But do not forget to air the apartment!

Burmese wool does not have undercoat, but it has a unique quality - it does not roll into mats. So weekly combing is enough to maintain the beauty of the coat.

Ears and eyes should be cleaned when contaminated.

What the priests used to feed their faithful cats in the temples of Burma, alas, is not known, but judging by what kind of Burma gourmets, they ate delicacies.

The sacred Burmese cat is faithful to these taste habits today. Burmese cats have a good appetite and are especially pleased that they practically do not suffer from obesity.

Supporters of natural food should be aware that the daily rate of food for Burmese cats is about 150 grams.

IMPORTANT! Experiments with an attempt to feed a pet with low-quality dry food or canned food can lead to the fact that the coloring matter added to such food can change the characteristic tone of the animal's fur!

Everyone picks up a pet for themselves, assessing the beauty of the breed on its scale of beauty. The star of world cinema Romy Schneider from all purrs gave preference to the Burmese cat. His name was Balzac de Ranchipur and this Burmese cat often posed in the photo next to his famous mistress.

And the famous Karl Lagerzheldu was given a Burmese cat by singer Baptist Giabiconi. The cat's name is Choupett and she is famous all over the world. Not every pussy is taken care of by three maids, writing down every step in a special book, and not every Lagerfeld himself devotes entire collections. The designer himself believes that it is priceless and is not going to sell it, but fans are waiting for the kittens from the famous pussy.

Where to buy a kitten

Nurseries that breed sacred burma are still rare in Russia and Ukraine. Perhaps this is good - the breeders more closely relate to the breed. Nurseries of Burmese cats per year have up to 3 litters, and this is about 12 kittens in total. These numbers, of course, affect the cost.

The price of a Burmese cat with a full package of documents varies from 20,000 rubles (pet class) to 70,000 rubles (show class). An animal without documents can be sold much cheaper. Where to buy Burma? In the nursery or private owners? The choice is yours.

And a little about the secrets.

The story of one of our readers Irina Volodina:

My eyes were especially frustrating, surrounded by large wrinkles plus dark circles and swelling. How to remove wrinkles and bags under the eyes completely? How to cope with swelling and redness? But nothing is so old or young man as his eyes.

But how to rejuvenate them? Plastic surgery? I found out - no less than 5 thousand dollars. Hardware procedures - photorejuvenation, gas-liquid pilling, radio lifting, laser facelift? Slightly more accessible - the course is 1.5-2 thousand dollars. And when to find all this time? Yes, and still expensive. Especially now. Therefore, for myself, I chose another way.

Burma - the cat from the legend

Of the many breeds of domestic cats, only one has the word “sacred” in its name, and this in itself speaks volumes. Sacred Burma, although it still remains among the rare breeds, but interest in it among the true connoisseurs of feline virtues is growing throughout the world. This is not surprising, because the Burmese cat is one continuous virtue.

The sacred cat Burma - faithful companion of Buddhist monks

Many Buddhists in different countries of the world prefer to keep these cats and even meditate with them - well, isn't it in itself already surprising?

Breed history

It is unlikely that there is another breed with which so many legends and simply beautiful mysterious stories would be associated. Be that as it may, the Burmese cat enjoys special patronage and reverence for modern Buddhists - just as a century ago, when the fluffy, mysterious beauties lived in many monasteries of Burma as almost divine oracles, they accompanied the monks and pilgrims all around.

How and when did these cats end up in Buddhist monasteries? There is no direct and specific information about this, the origins of the breed are lost in the intricacies of Eastern myths.

Once upon a time, a legend tells a long time ago, in Burma there was a magnificent temple of Lao Con built in honor of the mother of all things on Earth. When the abbot Man-Ha offered the evening prayer to the golden, with sapphire eyes, the statues of the deity, he was attacked by enemies and killed. The white temple cat Singh desperately pressed against the body of his master, and at that moment a miracle happened. A radiance appeared around the statue, and the cat began to transform. Her hair has acquired golden ebb, her paws darkened, but where they touched the monk's chest, snow-white gloves remained, and Singh's eyes became sapphire. The next morning, all the other cats living in the temple also acquired this appearance.

Modern genetic studies are not so romantic, but they confirm: this breed originates from Burma. According to the most common version, Siamese and Persian cats who lived here for thousands of years naturally crossed. Some of the offspring showed up, later becoming entrenched, and wonderful blue eyes, and white “socks” on their paws, and other breed qualities gradually formed.

The eyes of Burma are a divine gift.

Burma's precious heritage - a pair of sacred cats was presented to Europeans in gratitude for saving the same temple of Lao Con, but at the very beginning of the last century. So, at least, says the continuation of the legend. The cat could not stand the long journey on the ship to the shores of France, and the pregnant cat reached the new place of residence and produced kittens there. It was from them that the whole European population of sacred Burma supposedly led.

One hundred years ago, the breed became popular in Europe. Во Франции священная бирма получила первое официальное признание, которое датируется 1925 годом.Since then, Burma has been keeping its official record - every truly pedigreed cat can track its pedigree up to twenty tribes, and its starting point will be at the beginning of the last century. Interestingly, the standard of this breed is unusually stable - it also remained almost unchanged for almost a century, which is a rarity for various phelinological organizations.

Burmese Cat Features

In the house where Burma lives, a very pleasant atmosphere of calm and peace is formed by itself. This is an unambiguous merit of the sacred cat, which is surprisingly able to tune all its surroundings with a positive - and it is worth paying special attention to this breed for this unique quality.

Appearance and Anatomy

The more closely you start to look closely at the Burmese cat, the more you make discoveries in it. You are surprised to realize that everything is original in this animal: color, gait, even voice. But absolutely nothing comparable to the look of her sapphire eyes, giving Burma a special expression of "face" and forming its unique image. This famous look is especially spectacular - shining, a bit diffused - against the background of a contrasting “mask”.

Burma cat is charismatic and cute

One of the many legends tells that all the beauty and secrets of heaven are given to the Burmese cats for safekeeping. Who knows, maybe that's the way it is ...

Burma is endowed with a bright, memorable appearance - it is recognizable, charismatic and incredibly charming. It is not too large, but very harmonious animal with a strong body, strong paws and a fluffy tail. A cloud of the most delicate, as if pearl wool, which one would like to stroke, wonderful white “gloves” on the front and “socks” on the hind legs - such is the corporate style of the Burmese cat, which organically emphasizes its individuality.

The white markings give the "divine" origin of the sacred cat. Solidity and significance gives her an almost royal “collar”, and lush “pants” look very elegant. Burma fluffy tail always wears a victory, raised high and expresses them always good mood.

Burma has its own, inherent to her secret breed signs - for example, "socks" on the back of the paws should end with so-called spurs - inverted triangles of a special form. Not only specialists at exhibitions pay attention to this sign. The legend says that according to such special marks the ancient goddess recognizes her beloved cat, even from the back, to always keep her in the field of attention and not to be cheated by various blessings.

The Burmese breed is particularly stable, which is good news. Intrabreeding development focuses mainly on expanding the range of colors. There are already quite a few nuances and variations, but there are still six main colors:

Seal point color - pale beige golden color with dark brown spots

Blue-point color - bluish-white color with blue-gray spots

Chocolate color - "ivory" with spots of milk chocolate color

Lilac color - beige-gray with lilac-brown spots

Red color - golden white with spots of reddish-brown shades.

Cream color - white and cream with yellowish spots

Sacred cats surprise not only by their appearance - even their walk and voice are quite special. They are not talkers and are more silent than talkative. But the timbre of the mewing of Burma immediately draws attention to itself: the voice of this cat most of all resembles ... oriental perfumes - it is deep, sweet, unusually melodic and beautiful.

Character and behavior

The wise and balanced temper of these cats must have been taken out of their meditative rich monastic past. They are always full of stately, true oriental tranquility, they know how to be relaxed and fill with everything that surrounds them with their peaceful state.

The nature of the cat is amazing - it is very kind and affectionate. Communication and close contact with a person are necessary for Burma on the physical level, it depends on the owner much more than the vast majority of other cats. This is the cat that is not just “by itself”; it is with you, in which it sees its main purpose.

There would be a dear host nearby - that’s what is most important for sacred burma

But the true Burma will never fall to imposing its society. If the beloved master is busy or just is not inclined to communicate, the cat will suffer somewhere aside and may even become depressed if its love is ignored for too long. They are always ready to accept the caress of the owner.

Burma is an aristocratic and intellectual. It is interesting that she chooses her hosts to match her. It is unlikely that among connoisseurs of any other feline breed there will be found so many dedicated enthusiasts who sincerely fall in love with the mysterious image of burma and its many real virtues, who are passionate about the spicy style of the East, which this cat carries from every depth to the house.

Burmese cat creates comfort in the house, not chaos

Sacred cats are playful and quick-witted, they are easy to learn and at an early age begin to perceive the rules of the house where they live as their own. Burma will find a positive source for itself and its owner in everything and turn any object that it finds itself into soft paws into a funny toy. But at the same time, even small, insensible kittens are absolutely not naughty, they grow without victims and destructions, get along well with other inhabitants of the house and simply adore children.

We buy a Burmese kitten

Formation of an adult animal occurs slowly, and for a very small kitten, even a specialist will have difficulty accurately predicting his breed prospects. Therefore, if you are looking for burma for an exhibition career, then it makes sense to consider purchasing a grown-up pet - by the age of six months, it will be possible to exclude all the major vices of the breed, and by purchasing a one-year-old cat, you will receive a fully formed individual.

But the majority of future owners are still willing to take the risk - to take into the house not an adult animal, but a wonderful baby in order to fully enjoy the pleasures of his tender age.

Burmese kitten is the best you can give yourself

How to choose

The optimal age for a kitten to move to a new home is not earlier than three months, when he had already grown out of infancy and become accustomed to all the useful skills of independent living. By twelve weeks, the animal is fully vaccinated and there is no need to fear that it may be infected.

Decide, after consulting with the breeder, who you want to take: a boy or a girl. Look at the conditions in which both the babies themselves and their parents are contained, once again discuss the details of caring for the younger kitten - and, finally, choose him. What you need to pay attention to:

  • development of the baby according to his age
  • fatness and other conditions
  • caudal vertebrae - no break,
  • condition of hair, eyes, ears, tummy - not too swollen,
  • behavior (activity and timidity).

Choosing a kitten, be sure to look at his parents.

How to raise and educate

Prepare in advance for the appearance of a kitten in your home. He is still quite small, and this feline child will need a lot of your attention and care. However, the baby of this breed does not require something completely special.

Beforehand, think over and discuss with the breeder the concept of proper nutrition of your baby. Stock up on necessary feeds - at the cultivation stage, a balanced diet is especially important. Items of hygiene and leisure is also better not to choose at the last moment. So, what should be necessary for the first appearance in the house of Burmese fluff:

  • tray with quality filler,
  • good quality kogtetochka,
  • toys for every occasion
  • sleeping place,
  • water and drink bowls
  • poukhoperka and comb.

Burmese kittens are very smart.

The intelligent kitten will orient in a new place in the first three or four days. The balanced children of Burma are usually very quickly mastered, do not stress, and are happy to accept the schedule of independent living offered by the owners. Do not be lazy - clearly explain to your pet where he will sleep, eat, go to the toilet, where you can and where you cannot sharpen your claws. You will be surprised: the baby will instantly learn the new rules of behavior.

Keeping and caring for a cat Burma

In everyday life the Burmese cat is modest and undemanding. This representative of one of the most elite breeds does not require any complex grooming or any nutritional delicacy. The main thing for her is contact and communication with the owner, to which Burma is tied much more than to its place of residence. In this sense, she is probably a dog rather than an ordinary cat. Being close to a person, she is ready for any changes and travels, easily adapts to new circumstances and new acquaintances.

Burmese cat is shy and obedient

Feeding Burmese cats usually doesn’t cause any problems - they are neither picky nor gluttony, do not make a cult of food, and are equally well tolerated by both ready-made food and natural food. Taste addictions at each cat can be especially individual, and from them it is possible to proceed also, making the cat's menu for every day.

However, this is not the easiest task - to select quantitatively and qualitatively all the necessary components for proper nutrition - and an inexperienced owner will hardly cope with it successfully. Therefore, most breeders recommend new owners to give preference to professional feed.

And of course, any sweets from the master's table is a complete taboo for the Burmese. As, however, for any other cat.

Hygiene and Grooming

Burma's “branded” wool - thick, long, silky - does not require any complex care, it does not tangle, does not roll and does not get tattered. But we must always remember that high-quality wool is always evidence of not only good heredity, but also good health - above all, proper nutrition.

Pick your favorite balanced diet, from which she can get everything you need for fluffy clothes. Once or twice a week, be sure to comb the Burma wool with a puhoker with small teeth. For the period of molting, the furminator will be more suitable - with its help it is very convenient to get rid of the old, dead down.

The sacred cat can handle everything from the owner - even bathing

Burmese cats usually do not come to the delight of swimming, but tolerate it with dignity. Wash Burma should not be too often - one bathing in two to two months is enough, well, and in case of emergency, if the cat suddenly suddenly smeared with something. Optimal cosmetics for washing wonderful Burmese hair will be advised by the breeder - perhaps, for the guard hairs, additional nutrition will be required, and besides shampoo, some other care products will be needed.

For an exhibition grooming of a wonderful down coat, a natural bristle brush can be useful, which does not electrify the burma wool, but gives it additional volume and charm.

History of origin

One of them says that long ago in the high mountains of Burma, Buddhist monks lived in one of the temples. They worshiped the blue-eyed goddess Cun Quanxe.

It was believed that it was she who was able to move the souls of the dead monks, and they could return to the temple in the form of a cat. That is why, in the temple there lived 100 golden-eyed cats of white color, which the monks took care of and revered.

Once, when an attempt was made on the golden statue of the goddess in order to kidnap her, the monks managed to lock themselves in the temple, but one of them was so worried that his heart stopped. He died near the statue with open arms. At this time, the favorite cat of the priest Sinh jumped on his skull, and his coat immediately became golden. The eyes took on the color of the goddess, and the tips of his paws found white - a sign of the purity and holiness of the monk's soul. The rest of the monks immediately understood this sign and did everything to push the robbers back from the temple.

A week later, the Sin Cat died, moving the monk's soul to heaven, for, as she no longer needed to cultivate, because the soul had already reached its perfection. Since then, when the sacred cat died in a Buddhist monastery, it was believed that the monk's soul had forever found its place in paradise. At the same time, the one who threatened the life of such a cat will be tormented until the soul of this cat is pacified and will forgive his killer.

In 1898, when military strife occurred in Burma, an English temple was rescued by the English major Lao Tsun. As a sign of gratitude, the major was presented with a small gold plaque, which showed a Burmese cat. The head lama showed him the sacred cats, told him this legend and presented a couple of animals. Unfortunately, these animals could not stand the move and died.

Some time later, in 1910, the millionaire Vanderbilde managed to buy cats that were previously stolen from the monastery, and donate a certain Madame Tradd-Haddish. Then, she transported them to France. After a short time, a cat named Madapur passed away, but the cat Sita had bore from him an heir named Dolly de Madapur. Then she was crossed with a cat of a different breed, and we can only guess what this wonderful cat really was.

Burmese cat managed to conquer the hearts of the French, and in 1925 the breed was recognized in the French Association of cat lovers.

In the exhibition in 1926, more than 300 cats of different breeds took part, but the greatest number of votes were given to the sacred Burmese Doll Pup de Madapur and her two sons. Unfortunately, during the Patriotic War, the breed almost died out, but since 1945 they began to actively work on its revival. The breed was completely restored only in the 50s, after which it quickly spread among cat lovers in Europe, and then beyond its borders.

Breed description and standards

The Burmese cat is easy to recognize due to its color and wool - they have a semi-long wool of one of the pointed colors and white socks on their paws. The pads are gently pink. Birm eyes are special - they have a beautiful round shape and intensely blue color. Further detailed description of the Burmese cat breed:

Head and muzzle

The head of a Burma is a triangular shape with a rounded contour. Cheekbones are high enough. The forehead is convex, in the profile light stop is noticeable. The nose is rather large, of medium length. The ears are small, the height is approximately equal to the width at the base, the tips are rounded. Eyes almond-shaped, expressive, set wide apart.

The color of the iris is allowed only bright blue.

The body is medium in size. The complex is strong, well developed muscles. The format is a bit stretched. Legs are low with wide, round legs. The tail is of medium length.

Wool in sacred cats of medium length, a little undercoat. The touch is very soft and silky. On the face, the hair is short, but lengthens on the cheeks and turns into a rich collar. The longest coat on the sides and back. Very well pubescent tail.

Burmese cats have their own color type. The hair on the body should be uniformly bright tone, and contrasting colors are concentrated in the form of marks. The dark mask should cover the entire face and connect with the dark ears a path. On the front and hind legs, snow-white socks are separated from the darker tone by an even strip. The tail should also be darker than the main color.

There are four colors:

    • dark brown markings on a light beige or cream tone,
    • chocolate markings with ivory background,
    • blue markings in cats with a bluish-white cold tone on the body,
    • purple markings on a white background.

Brown (sable) color of wool is considered the most popular. Moreover, until recently this color of the Burmese cat was considered the only permissible according to the requirements of the standard. No less beautiful type of color - chocolate (coffee with milk). Turtle color allows mixture:

    • blue-gray with apricot,
    • dark brown with red
    • chocolate red
    • gray with purple.

Burmese cats have a soft and calm nature. They are unobtrusive, moderately active, intelligent with a steady temperament. They can always find something to do, while demanding positive communication. If the cat does not like something in relation to it, then it is quietly eliminated. Looking at their luxurious appearance, it may seem to many that they are lazy cats and they cannot jump. This is not entirely true! Consider the fact that Burmese are very curious cats, and if they are greatly interested in something, they can even jump high on the closet from the first time.

In addition, representatives of the Sacred Burmese breed ideally live with other animals in the house, do not claim to be vast territories and their supremacy. They are fond of children and are the most adapted cats for family comfort and everyday life.

Cats can be quickly taught to wear toys in their teeth, they perfectly remember the names of any object and perform simple commands. During the games, they are well aware of what they can do and what not.

Here is one of the reviews from the owner:

Another opinion about a Burmese cat:

And another review of the sacred burma from the forum:

Apparently, the only minus of burma in long hair, but this drawback is eliminated by regular combing.

There are no other comments about these cats. There are only minor individual comments, for example, it is afraid of a vacuum cleaner or treat unfamiliar people with caution.

Maintenance and care

Remember that Burma is not adapted to life outside the home. They are afraid of cold, rain, snow and drafts. In principle, cats of this breed do not need walks, they feel great in the apartment. Burma loves heat, like all cats, but hypothermia is dangerous for them to inflammatory diseases. In the cold season, if the pet likes to lie on the window, it is better to spread something on the window sill.

Despite the fact that cats breed Burmese have long hair, they do not require special care. It is enough to comb them once a week, but during the molting period, in order to avoid the formation of tangles, it is recommended to comb their wool more often. Bathe rarely, 1-2 times a year. If necessary, wipe their beautiful eyes with special solutions and clean the ears. Claws can be cut if desired.

To care for a Burmese cat you will need:

  • comb with frequent, and preferably rotating, teeth,
  • massage brush with antistatic coating,
  • claw cutter
  • ear cleaner,
  • shampoo,
  • wipes for cleansing the lacrimal paths.

There are no special nutritional recommendations or restrictions for Burmese cats. They need the same things as others: high-quality food that will keep the animal in good shape and clean drinking water. Preferences can be given to ready-made super premium rations or holistic class or feed the animal with natural products. In the second case, it will be difficult to make a qualitative diet and make the cat have everything you need. During shedding, cats are given the means or feed for breeding wool.

Diseases and life expectancy

Burmese cats are tender apartment animals that are not adapted to life on the street. In addition, the experts found out that there are several hereditary diseases in the breed:

  • A disease of the central nervous system called spongy degeneration. It leads to problems with coordination and weakness of the limbs, and in advanced cases to paralysis.
  • Corneal dermoid is a benign neoplasm, which involves the presence of skin cells with hair follicles on the cornea of the eye. Removed surgically.
  • There is a predisposition to kidney disease.

The fact that Burmese cats are expensive and thoroughbred for housing does not save the owners from having to vaccinate them and de-worming them in a timely manner!

The average life expectancy of Burmese cats is 11-14 years, but there are real long-livers.

Choosing a kitten breed sacred Burma

Burmese kittens are born almost white. The typical color begins to appear only after a few days, is clearly visible by the month, and is fully formed by two years. Characteristic white "gloves" appear about 3 months. The color of the eyes of the smallest bright blue, by the third month it becomes a little brighter, and then darkens again.

Only when the kitten is about six months can we talk about its quality and prospects.

How to choose a pet?

In this case, the best answer is heart. You can be sure that the sacred burma kittens of any gender, color and quality will become the center of your home in just a few days, I guarantee!

Pragmatic people and those who are planning to seriously engage in breeding Burmese cats, should focus on the following.

The nature of Burmese cats and cats depends largely on the degree of socialization of kittens in the nursery and parents of babies. But from the differences dictated by nature, too, can not escape.

  • more playful,
  • affectionate,
  • creative and fluffy.

The minus of the tribal Burmese cat is a loud voice if you want to mate and the habit of fragrantly marking the territory. If the long-awaited meeting with the cat is delayed, you should wait for problems with health and character.

If you are not going to prepare a cat for show career or breeding, then for both of you it will be better to have a way out like castration.

You can also take a cat in conjunction with the nursery. This has its advantages. Breeders will share with you the secrets of keeping and raising an animal, will tell you about the possible negative consequences that will help to avoid them.

As a rule, this kind of cooperation lasts from one to three years, after which the Burmese cat passes under your permanent care. Kotov, in this case, usually castrated.

  • more independent
  • moderately playful,
  • more wise.

The main disadvantage is inadequate behavior during estrus. Moreover, the frequency and intensity of estrus is often unpredictable.

If a Burmese cat does not knit with a cat for several years, wait for complications with the health of the cat.

Pedigree cats are not recommended to take in families where there are small children. Travelers and careerists animal will become an unnecessary burden. Animals should be cared for:

  • dropping with cats
  • help with pregnancy
  • participate in raising kittens.

All this takes time and conditions. You can believe the word, caring for a Burmese cat is a responsible, hard work. Raising this breed, one must forget how simply cats "from childhood" gave birth.

But all problems can be avoided by castration and sterilization. In this case, you get a beautiful pet that does not cause problems.

How much is a Burmese cat?

Burma belongs to the expensive cat breeds and not the most common. If you are thinking about buying a Burmese kitten, it is best to look at the nurseries and the breed representative at exhibitions. You can of course, without preparation, buy a baby on the Internet, but there is a chance to be deceived.

The price for kittens of the Burmese breed with a good pedigree ranges from 15 000-50 000 rubles. Many factors affect the price:

  • kitty class
  • the merits of parents
  • the location of the nursery and so on.

Cats and cats of a pet-class (for home) are not allowed to breed, and, nevertheless, the offspring from such unions on the Internet are sold at a price of 3,000-7,000 rubles. Naturally kids without documents and guarantees.

Choosing a kitten, the main thing is not to fall for the scammers who give out fluffy kids with typical Siamese color for the dear Sacred Burma.

Therefore, if you plan to make a little celebrity out of your pet, the price of the sacred cat burma should move to the background for you. Yes, you will in any case get a wonderful pet, but, alas, with the slightest inconsistencies in the pedigree, you can only dream of the top of the pedestal.

Burmese cattery

There are not many specialized nurseries breeding the sacred Burma cat in Russia. Their sizes do not hit with greatness either - 2-3 litters per year, 2-4 kittens per litter.

Therefore, there are plenty of prospects in this direction. But, as already mentioned, a person who decides to devote himself to the cultivation of sacred Burma, must prepare for difficulties. Most likely, because of this, Burmese cats are so few, and the people who arrange nurseries are true connoisseurs of the breed and experienced breeders. But it is possible to understand such people, a Birman burma cat after dating does not leave indifference, one glance is enough.

Propensity to disease

Excellent health is one of the unconditional pedigree merits of a Burmese cat. She has a strong immune system and high resistance to various types of infections. With proper care, Burmese cats rarely get sick, and their average life expectancy reaches sixteen years - this is an excellent indicator.

The limited gene pool of the Burmese cat entails hereditary diseases

But a limited gene pool has created certain problems with heredity - there are a number of diseases that are often susceptible to representatives of this breed. Try to eliminate the possibility of bad heredity at the stage of acquiring a kitten. But if the disease has made itself felt, do not self-medicate - in a timely manner, contact only qualified professionals. In the list of pediatric pathologies, the following problems most often occur:

  • congenital hypertrophy
  • cornea dermoid,
  • spongy degeneration,
  • body tremor,
  • excessive concentration of creatinine in the blood.

Responsible breeders will never allow breeding animals with poor heredity.. Therefore, the risks of acquiring a sick baby are constantly decreasing, but they exist and this should be remembered.

Breed marriage

Breeding a Burmese cat is in many ways a breed lottery, a task with many unknowns. That, in fact, is interesting. Bright white edging paws, which is considered one of the main breed signs, is transmitted from parents to offspring with a high degree of unpredictability. If a child has his aristocratic marks of insufficient size or irregular shape, he definitely cannot see victories at the exhibition.

It is very important to have the right white gloves.

But such a breed marriage in no way prevents the cat from living and does not reduce its other great virtues. A pet-class baby is much cheaper. Therefore, if you do not aspire to a show career for your pet, pay attention to the kitten in the "wrong" gloves - you will never regret it.

Tribal work

Enthusiasts of the breed, which are growing in the Russian open spaces, are trying not only to widely popularize the Burmese cat, which is still quite rare in our country, but also to preserve and improve its pedigree qualities as much as possible, extending and qualitatively differentiating the gene pool of sacred burma. Tribal work in this case should be well thought out, and the responsibility for its results lies with the few nurseries so far that highly value their reputation.

Parent pair preparation

Along with the popularity of the Burmese cat, the number of producers is growing, the combination of which can be used in breeding work. Selection of the parent pair is crucial for successful reproduction in this breed. Therefore, it is advisable to entrust this delicate topic to professionals, and not just to tie a beloved cat “for health” with a cat that lives nearby.

Good parenting couple - beautiful and healthy children.

To organize a successful mating, it is necessary to know well at least the genetics of colors, and even better - how prepotent future parents are, what qualities they usually convey to offspring and how they can be improved.

The parent pair must begin to prepare for mating no later than a month before the X-hour. Both animals should be vaccinated in time and free from parasites. Do not hesitate to ask for information about whether the intended partner of your animal is healthy - the risks of transmission are high during the mating. In addition, there are many diseases that can become dangerous to the health and even life of future babies.

Pregnancy and kittens

In the waiting period for babies, the mysteriousness of the Burmese cat increases in a fantastic way many times - probably, as many times as the small lives of a future mother ripen. At this time, she needs increased attention and care, tries to spend more time with the owner, receive confirmation from him of love - Burma, like any woman, such signs are important and necessary.

It is no coincidence that the sacred Burma is called the female breed - out of the total number of households, this cat usually chooses the mistress as the main object of worship and service. And it’s not the time of the beloved woman’s pregnancy that Burma will surely take special patronage over her. But to herself, this amazing cat expects a similar attitude.

This is how Burmese kittens are born.

Burma kittens - wonderful white lumps of fluff - are born about nine weeks after the act of parental love. As befits all feline cubs, they are blind and deaf, and they are exclusively interested in the mother - her warmth and her tasty milk. But somewhere by the third day of life, a completely individual child begins to show his bright personality literally before our eyes - the white fur of a kitten gradually acquires its unique colors and shades. Watching this mysterious process is extremely interesting.

The nose is painted first, the outlines of the mask on the face appear, then the paws, ears, tail ... darken By the two-week-old kitten, an experienced breeder will already be able to guess: what kind of adult animal will come out of this cute baby. Of course, genetically, you can try to assume this in advance, but nature is generally a big fan of giving people surprises, and the already mysterious nature of the sacred cat — and all the more.

Castration and sterilization

Adequate indications for sterilizing a Burmese cat can be not only health problems, but also the conditions under which a breeder sells a pet-class kitten who does not have access to breeding for various reasons. In other cases, responsible veterinarians usually dissuade the owners of this breed from castration or sterilization of animals.

This cat loves you - reciprocate her

Burma is completely non-aggressive and has an adequate behavior even during periods of hormonal peaks. Sterilization is by no means a simple and harmless operation; moreover, it undergoes general anesthesia, which can adversely affect health. Before deciding on a surgical intervention, weigh the pros and cons of the operation - it is likely that you can do without it.
