Wax refinery - this is an easy-to-use device designed for extracting wax from honeycombs. For your apiary, you can buy ready-made wax refinery. The principle and the robot of this device is very simple, so it will be more profitable to make a wax refinery on your own.

Types of wax tanks:

  • Steam.
  • Solar.
  • Electric wax refinery.

Principle of operation

All wax tanks, regardless of design, perform the main and only job - wax heating. Due to the fact that the wax melts at relatively low temperatures, the energy consumption of such devices is low, and the efficiency is high. Beekeepers resort to various methods of building wax refineries. Elementary wax refinery is a bucket of water on a fire, into which raw materials are immersed.. But this option is unlikely to suit you. Let's look at the more sophisticated and easy to use homemade wax refineries.

Steam wax refinery do it yourself

Wax furnace with steam is widespread among beekeepers.. It has a lot of advantages. The heating of raw materials occurs due to the fact that the chamber is filled with hot steam, which reaches a temperature of 100 degrees. The wax begins to melt at temperatures of 65 degrees. Penetrating into all the cracks, the steam is evenly distributed throughout the entire raw material section, due to which efficient and high-quality wax separation occurs.

  • Wax emulsion is not formed during the fire, as the raw material is not in contact with water.
  • A large percentage of wax wax.
  • The wax is of high quality, if everything is done correctly, the raw materials will not need to be driven through the second round of the furnace.

Steam wax refiners come in various designs and sizes. For small apiaries with your own hands, you can make a wax refinery from a juicer. For larger volumes, you can build a wax refinery from the old refrigerator. Let's consider the most convenient and efficient type of construction which differs from others not only in its usability, but also in its efficiency.

Advanced steam wax model. Consists of two parts.

  1. Steam chamber.
  2. Camera with raw materials.

The first camera is a tank. On the one hand, it has an iron tube connecting it with a raw material chamber. And at the other end is a hole for water supply. The tank should be made of stainless metal. Steam formation occurs in it.

Chamber for burning materials is made in the form of a rectangular box. Side is connected to the steam supply pipe. On top there is a cover for loading raw materials into the chamber. A filtering mesh is installed above the bottom of the chamber, and the bottom of the chamber itself has a sloping slope, at the end of which a hole is placed to remove the wax. Inside the chamber above the grid, fastening hooks are installed parallel to each other. A frame with honeycombs will be installed on them.

A huge plus of steam waxing is that it is not necessary to separate the honeycomb from the frame. The frame with honeycombs is immersed in the chamber for raw materials, fixed on hooks. Steam is supplied, the wax melts, passes filtering and flows down the sloping bottom from the chamber into the tank for wax.

This design is quite difficult to manufacture, but performed once, it will save its owner from the chore of separating the wax from the framework with a knife, and heating it, followed by filtration and refining of the raw materials for several circles.

Simple design of steam waxing.

If your apiary is small and you have no reason to make such a complex apparatus, you can make a simple wax refinery according to the following principle:

The design has a single chamber in which the vaporization and combustion of raw materials takes place. As the frame is used any iron container with a lid.

Water is poured at the bottom of the tank; a cup stand is placed in the water where the wax will flow. A filter mesh is attached above the cup into which the raw materials are applied. The device heats up, steam is allocated, wax melts and flows down in a cup for raw materials. The downside of such a wax refinery is a small amount of raw materials that can be melted at a time, as well as inconvenience in use.

Solar wax DIY

The advantages of solar wax refinery:

  • Simple work with raw materials.
  • High-quality wax furnace.
  • Disinfection of raw materials by the sun.
  • No need to use heating elements.

Minus of this model, a small amount of possible heating of raw materials at a time. As well as the direct dependence of the apparatus on the quality of the weather.

A wax refinery consists of a simple construction. Has a triangle shape of 180 degrees. The frame can be made of wood. For example, an old bollard, a sliding shelf, or square-shaped boards made of wood between them will work well as a camera for a solar wax-stove. Inside the iron mesh is placed, on which the raw material will sink, it is covered with glass on top. The gap can be sealed with foam, liquid glue or silicone.

Thus, we get a sealed chamber with a sloping bottom to drain the wax, and on top of the glass, which concentrates the rays of sunlight and heats the chamber. Thanks to this design, inside the chamber the temperature of the sun rises from 90 to 140 degrees. The wax melts through the mesh and flows out through the wax hole.

Electric wax dipping do it yourself

Often this type of design is not collected at home. She bought in finished form. The wax is melted in such wax stoves thanks to infrared heaters. This gives additional disinfection of raw materials and high performance. The big disadvantage of this design is a high amount of electricity consumption, as well as the price of the product.. As a heating element in cheaper models serves as an incandescent spiral.

A similar model beekeepers made on their sites by hand. For this you will need:

  1. A heating element.
  2. Chamber firebox raw materials.
  3. Iron sheet
  4. Glass as a cover.

The whole essence of such an improvised design consists in combining solar work for kindling of honeycombs with the work of an electric heater.

As an electric heater, you can use a heating element from an old electric furnace. A heating element is placed in the bottom of the iron chamber for burning the raw material, an iron sheet is welded on top at an angle of 30 degrees. A mesh is placed above it for filtering. This construction will be covered with glass as a lid, like a solar wax furnace. The work of this design is that in order to avoid large power consumption, the main work is performed by direct sunlight. But in the case when sunlight is not enough for high-quality processing of raw materials, you can connect an electric heater that completes the work started.

In the manufacture of such a design should be followed with caution safety. The collection element should not have protruding wires that will be in contact with the metal wax chamber. The protective sheet of metal must be hermetically welded to reliably protect the heating element from molten wax.

How to use?

To use such a beekeeping device is not too difficult. Depending on the type of device, the principles of operation are also distinguished. It can be solar or steam. In the first case, the wax melts due to the penetration of the sun by the best through the glass, in the second - due to the supply of steam. You can try to melt the wax at home without any apparatus at all!

Device

There are two main types of devices - solar and steam wax refineries, you can also find other, less popular types. The steam model is much more efficient as it allows you to get the greatest amount of wax, while the solar one is used additionally.

Steam wax refinery consists of a tank, which is connected with a tube or hose to a cabinet box. The case contains a lid, made of wood. In its lower part there is a removable metal mesh, and wax flows through it. A hose is inserted into the side of the body through which steam is supplied. For drain wax device is equipped with a crane. Inside there are hangers on which the frames are hung.

Using

Water is poured into the converter tank up to half, and the fire is set under the tank. Honeycombs are suspended in the hull. Through the steam pipe is fed into the body, resulting in the honeycomb begin to melt and turn into wax. Through the net, it flows down to the bottom and flows out through the faucet. Sometimes the grid is replaced with tin baking. Such devices are convenient to use on small and medium amateur apiaries.

Making your own hands

The best way to make a frame wax-do-it-yourself is to use an electric heater, heating element. It is necessary to make or find a rectangular or round metal container, preferably detachable. Perfectly suitable old double boiler. With the help of a thread in the lower part of it, an electric heating element is fixed. It would be great to make a window in the tank to control the water level. At the bottom of the frame is set with a grid that becomes a kind of filter.

1. Wax refinery. 2. Steam former

On the drawings and photos you can see the main points of manufacture. Steam wax refinery with your own hands - there is nothing easier for sensible beekeeping!

As the name suggests, the solar model is powered by solar energy. Such a device consists of a body, a trough for collecting wax and a baking tray. Everything is made of tinplate. Can be made of wood or plywood box with a glass lid.

Application

Sunlight passing through the glass heats the baking tray. Due to this, the wax raw material is heated over 70 degrees. As a result of this, the wax melts and flows in the trough. A grid is placed on the edge of the tray to filter the product from the bag. The sun's rays should fall on the frame through the glass perpendicular. As a result, after this process, you can get about 5 kg of wax.

How to do it yourself

For the manufacture of electric models with their own hands, you can use prefabricated parts from various devices. The wooden board will perfectly serve for the foundation. A stove heater is used for heating. Thermal contact from the iron will be an excellent solution to avoid overheating. An aluminum sheet is laid and insulated under the heater. Above the heater is a tin mesh. The wax refinery is covered with glass.

How to heat a product without waxing?

Without wax refining wax elementary. The simplest and proven method will be the use of a water bath at home. The use of various kitchen appliances, such as mantyshnits and juicers, also gives remarkable results. In the video you can see how to make a wax refinery independently and very simply.

The advantages of homemade steam wax

Self-made wax refinery has a lot of advantages. For its manufacture can be used any washing machine. The most preferred is the old Soviet technique, equipped with thick and durable drums. They are perfect for making homemade device. Thus, the apiary owner does not spend money on the purchase of a factory device or on the purchase of materials for a homemade design.

The use of steam wax refinery is much more profitable than the use of solar factory wax refinery. First, using steam you can get a significantly larger amount of good raw materials, while the process itself takes place quickly. Secondly, such a device can be used all year round in any weather.

Necessary materials

To make a wax refinery, you need to completely disassemble the washing machine and leave the following parts:

In addition to the details of the washing machine, you need to prepare for homemade wax refinery:

  • volume flask with a capacity from 15 to 20 liters,
  • metal trough
  • rubber cap,
  • silicone based sealant,
  • metal cover with a diameter larger than the loading port of the washing machine,
  • gas or electric stove for heating, or make a fire.

How to make a wax refinery from an outdated washing machine

From the old Soviet washing machines of the type "Riga" or "Oka" you can also make a wax furnace, but the procedure will be different.

  • Disassemble the washing machine and remove all internal elements, leaving only the tank and the body.
  • From the bottom of the case at 20 cm from the edge, cut a small window with dimensions from 20 to 30 cm for laying firewood.
  • In the upper part of the frame, retreat from the edge of 5-7 cm and along the circumference make 3 holes for the exit of smoke.
  • Bend the fitting installed in the tank to drain the water, instead of the activator make an airtight plug and secure it with bolts or plugs. Place the tank in the case of the washing machine.
  • Secure the metal bracket from 4 to 5 cm wide and from 6 to 8 mm thick from the top of the case. Drill a hole with a M16 thread in the center and screw in a 40 cm long screw with a G-shaped handle.
  • Install the structure on the bricks, pour water so that it remains from 10 to 15 cm to the edge.
  • Place dried raw material in a nylon mesh or canvas bag and put it in a tank.
  • Make a strong fire when the wax begins to melt, knead it and press it to the bottom.
  • When the wax melting process is complete, lower the metal grill to the bottom.
  • Press out the melted wax with a screw through the bracket, cover with a cloth or film and leave to cool completely.
  • Pull out the finished wax and dry in a dark room.

Conclusion

If the apiary owner wants to recycle wax waste at home, he needs to know how to make a wax refinery from a washing machine. This will take a little time, as well as knowledge and adherence to the correct sequence of actions. This design can be used in any weather and regardless of the season.

Apparatus from the refrigerator

This method is perfect for those who have a fairly large apiary, and an old-fashioned fridge is lying around in the barn. Making a wax refinery at home from the fridge is pretty easy. The main requirement is that it is necessary to use a refrigerator with an iron or aluminum coating inside. Plastic for such purposes is absolutely not suitable. But if the refrigerator is quite old and has been lying around for you since time immemorial, then you don’t need to worry. Previously, all the refrigerators were made with a metal coating.

Now, why this wax refinery is more suitable only for large apiaries? Everything is in the design features. The body of this design will be quite roomy. Wax can be put into it directly with the frames, about 25 to 30 frames will fit in there, it all depends on what kind of refrigeration unit you have. It is also worth remembering that before heating the bee product, you need to sort the frame.

First melted light wax. Frames with a dark product are pre-soaked for the night, and only then they carry out the firebox procedure. If you do everything right, the wax will turn out to be of good quality and it can be sold at a bargain price.

Toolkit and materials

  • old fridge
  • metal shears
  • mesh with a small cell in the size of the refrigerator,
  • bolts or screws,
  • a small piece of tin,
  • heat sealant,
  • steam hose
  • metal tank from which steam will be supplied (barrel, can, etc.),
  • collection bucket
  • other tools and materials as needed (including drawings).

From the old juice cooker

For heating wax at home, you can use the good old sokovarku. The main thing that it was metal. The design of the juice cooker is already finished and you don't need to finish something yourself. Just take and use. It is quite convenient and practical. But this method of heating the product is suitable only for small apiaries, because wax with a maximum of two frames will fit into the structure at a time.

In addition, here is not to mark the frame completely. Each time you need to cut the material manually. Now consider the design of the juice cooker, which we describe. It consists of three parts. The lower part is a water tank, which when heated will give us steam. The middle part is a settling tank, here melted wax and water formed from the top part flow from the upper part. From the bottom of the middle part a hole is made for draining.

Then it will be necessary to attach the proboscis with a clip. With the help of such a proboscis and melted wax will merge into the container. The upper part of the design is full. Cut wax will be loaded here. Also, the upper part is closed with a special lid, for better circulation of steam. Well, now it only remains to pour water, load the wax and put the teapot on the fire to warm up.

Drain wax preferably in food plastic containers. Material thus drained can be easily reached after solidification. As you can see, it is not at all difficult to make a wax refinery with your own hands out of improvised means. The main thing is to have skilled hands, even a little imagination, and then everything will turn out.
