Crested triton - the largest newt of those that are usually kept at home. It can grow about 18 cm long. Its main features are brown-black color, small orange dots on the belly and an original comb. The skin of this amphibian is covered with glands capable of producing a dangerous substance that helps it defend itself against possible enemies. So such a pet is far from safe for the rest of the inhabitants of the aquarium.

Another member of the family who is capable of harming not only neighbors in the aquaterrarium, but also his owner, ribbed newt. Along its trunk there are long orange tubercles - ribs. They protect the amphibian in case of danger. If you unexpectedly grab it with your hands, the ribs are dramatically advanced and an unwary person can get hurt.

The most beautiful representative of the family - alpine newt. It has a bright, unusual color: orange, bright blue, sky-blue stripes and gray dots make it a kind of "peacock" among newts.

Who to settle in the aquarium with the Triton

It is not a good idea to settle a newt in the same aquarium with fish and snails. The main reason is that this amphibian needs to go on land from time to time, and they also like to feast on fresh fish, and may well eat their neighbors. And the newts prefer cool water, about 20 degrees, and the fish love it to be warmer - about 25 degrees.

But if you choose the right inhabitants of the aquarium, it is quite possible to create a kind of “hostel” in which both fish and amphibians will coexist well. Guppies, neons or cardinals may well live together with the newts, but it is worth preparing for the fact that amphibians will start attacking the fish. The ideal neighbors for newts are goldfish. They are quite large, so it will be almost impossible to swallow them. And the fish themselves will not attack the amphibian. Tritons probably eat small snails, but large ones can survive, even though they will be constantly attacked.

Where in the house contain triton: remake aquarium

The best thing settle the triton in aquaterrarium, but experienced aquarists often alter existing aquariums under the house for newts. It is quite simple. Everyone knows that newts really need a kind of "islands" of land. You can create them by putting branches, pebbles, and boards on the bottom of the aquarium. You need to lay them out so that there are land areas on which the amphibian can crawl out to breathe.

One triton for normal life needs approximately 15 liters of water, and if you consider that the newt also wants a dry “beach” for rest, you need to buy an aquarium with a minimum volume of 30 liters. It is necessary to take into account the fact that after the appearance of one “resident”, you often want to share a company with it, so it’s better to immediately acquire a larger volume than you need at the moment. The top cover is an essential element of the aquaterrarium for the triton. These amphibians love to run away, so if you don’t want to see your exotic pet dead on the floor for one day, it’s better not to neglect the lid.

The bottom of the aquaterrarium needs to be covered with coarse soil, as the triton can shallow the shallow soil, the stones should be selected rounded, with smooth edges. Living algae in an aquarium are important not only for beauty, because many newts are accustomed to hiding their eggs in the leaves of plants, but some aquarists decorate the dwellings of newts with artificial algae.

Live plants require mandatory insolation. It is best to install a fluorescent lamp that does not overheat the water. Can be used in aquaterrarium and ultraviolet lamp. It not only gives light and within 12 hours creates the desired ultraviolet radiation, but does not overheat the water.

The maximum temperature of water carried by tritons is 22 °. If the temperature rises higher, it can seriously harm amphibians. In strong heat, experts advise to additionally cool the water, for example, you can drop a container with ice into the aquaterrarium.

In the picture below - the types of tritons (males and females). Some of them can be kept at home. After reading further, you will find out whether it is possible to keep several newts in one aquarium.

In the aquaterrarium is to install a filter, and in addition weekly replace about 20% of the water. These precautions will help to avoid diseases of tritons, which can be caused by the breakdown of waste products and amphibian food debris.

Several newts in the same aquarium. Can?

Tritons can be settled in the aquaterrarium, either singly or in groups. To avoid bloody fights and ensure the peaceful coexistence of amphibians, it is recommended to follow an important rule: for one male you need to buy 2-3 “ladies”. If this balance is upset, violent conflicts will start between the males for the females, after all these seemingly such peace-loving animals may turn out to be extremely militant.

From time to time tritons shed their old skin. This happens, as a rule, after the completion of the marriage period. Throwing off the old "clothes" Triton starts with the head. He rubs it against wood and pebbles, the skin bursts and the amphibian gradually “crawls out” of the old “suit”, remaining only in an almost transparent skin. Triton always tries to swallow old skin, but it turns out not to do it right away. A person is unlikely to be able to observe this interesting process, because tritons are nocturnal animals, and molting often comes precisely at night.

What do domestic newts eat

Triton is a predator, so food must be appropriate for it. Tadpoles, small fish, invertebrates, larvae - this is the favorite food of these animals. In special stores you can buy for your pet moth, shaker, or insect larvae. If you are going to feed a newt to a pipe worker or a bloodworm, you first have to soak them thoroughly in water, which must be changed frequently. With pleasure they eat tritons of slugs, worms, tadpoles and shrimps.

If it is not possible to purchase live food, tritons will completely cost thawed fish, calamari, raw meat, giblets, chicken or liver. Any of these delicacies should be cut into small pieces, so that the triton can easily swallow them.

Young amphibians want to eat once a day, and older ones - once every two days. Every month, newts need 3-4 days to do without food.

If fish live near tritons, then they need to be given food separately so that they do not interfere with each other's eating. You can still slip amphibians with a portion of tweezers. Sometimes food will need to be actively shaken in front of the triton's muzzle, since some individuals respond exclusively to live food.

Breeding newts at home: when and how they multiply

Mature tritons are considered 3 years after their birth. They usually begin to mate at the end of autumn, and continue until the beginning of spring. For amphibians to successfully multiply, the water temperature must drop to 18 degrees, or even lower. The female finds the deferred male spermatophore and sucks it into itself. After two or three days, the female lays the eggs in small groups and wraps them in leaves. After that, adults need to be relocated to another aquaterrarium, otherwise they will eat all the eggs. After 18 days, the larvae will be born, and after 10 months they will turn into full-fledged little tritons.

Types of newts for home content

Alpine Newt Home - differs from other species of this amphibian family by its beautiful appearance. Its main feature is a bright and unusual color. Due to the presence of blue, orange, and blue stripes, as well as gray spots, the Alpine newt immediately catches the eye, and, of course, decorate any aquaterrarium.

In size (up to 18 cm) crested newt surpasses all other representatives who are suitable for keeping at home. Characteristic external features for amphibians are an unusual comb, black-brown tint, as well as small orange spots located on the belly of the animal. The entire body of an amphibian is equipped with glands that can produce a kind of substance that protects against various attacks.

Ribbed newt - Another type of amphibian, which is dangerous not only for other inhabitants of the aquaterrarium, but also for its owner. On the whole body of the amphibian there are tubercles of orange color, having a rather large length. These growths and provide a protective function of amphibians in case of danger. If you decide to take the triton abruptly in your hands, it can instantly release these hillocks, from which a person may well be injured.

Suitable neighbors

The various types of fish and snails are unlikely to suit the newt for the role of neighbors. Since amphibians tend to periodically walk on dry areas. Also in the diet of the animal includes fish, therefore, it is very likely that such neighbors will be simply eaten by amphibians. Another non-convergence is the temperature regime, since tritons prefer a temperature of about 20 ° C. Warmer water is peculiar to fish - about 25 ° С.

However, if you make the right choice of occupants of the aquaterrarium, you can become the owner of a bright, colorful and diverse aquatic world in which amphibians and fish will quietly cohabit. Such species of fish as neons, cardinals and guppies may exist with tritons, but cases of attack are not excluded. Goldfish are the best neighbors with which the triton at home can live in peace. Because of their size, fish will not be suitable for amphibians as food, and it is not common for fish themselves to eat tritons.

How to organize a habitat

Tritons at home are best settled in the aquaterrarium, but quite a large part of the owners change the existing aquariums for comfortable housing for their pets. Since this type of amphibian needs small areas of land, aquariums should be equipped in such a way that pets can periodically go ashore. As island land, the best fit:

  • sprigs
  • pebbles
  • pieces of wood
  • other decor that is not placed in the water.

In order for the home triton to feel comfortable in the new habitat conditions, it is necessary to provide him with a body of water of at least 15 liters, and if you consider the dry area, you need to acquire a 30-liter aquarium. It is necessary to take into account the fact that such a volume is intended only for one inhabitant, but if later the owner’s plans include acquiring several more individuals, one should immediately acquire a dwelling of the required size.

At the bottom of the aquarium should be placed large stones, round shape, the edges of which will be smooth. It is better not to use shallow soil, since domestic amphibians can accidentally absorb it with food.

The tritons hide their eggs in the leaves of aquatic vegetation, therefore the aquaterrarium should be supplied with living or artificial plants that will become an additional decoration for the dwelling of such an exciting home dweller.

The maximum temperature value for the water space, which the triton can carry, is 22 ° C. In that case, if the temperature will have a reading higher, the amphibian can be seriously affected by this. In very hot climates, experts recommend additional cooling of the water, for example, using an ice tank dipped in an aquaterrarium.

It is necessary to install a special filter in the dwelling of a house triton, as well as to replace about a fifth of the water area every week. These manipulations will help to protect amphibians from the onset of various diseases that may appear as a result of vital activity, as well as from food debris that are decomposed.

Is it possible to contain several individuals in one aquaterrarium?

Keep newts in an aquarium can be alone, but you can also settle them in small groups. To avoid any contradictions in the dwelling of amphibians, each male should be provided with 2-3 females. Otherwise, fights and aggressive behavior of males are likely to occur.

After the breeding stage, it is common for newts to get rid of old skin, which it sheds starting from the head. In this case, the amphibian is in contact with the stones, so that the skin begins to depart. After that, the animal gets rid of it and remains in the skin, which has a transparent appearance.

Feeding features

Since tritons are predatory amphibians, they prefer live food, consisting of larvae, invertebrates and small-sized fish. In the pet stores there are various food that the pet will use with pleasure, in their composition the bloodworm, insect larvae and tubule. Before you give a moth or a pipemaker to triton use, it is imperative to soak them in water, which must be replaced frequently. An excellent treat for Triton will be:

The answer to the question of how to feed a triton at home will be:

  1. squids,
  2. liver,
  3. raw meat,
  4. chicken,
  5. thawed fish.

Young domesticated tritons need to be fed once a day, while representatives of an adult need food a little less often - once every two days. Also for 3-4 days in a month you need to leave your water pet without food.

What tritons eat at home is significantly different from what fish eat. Therefore, when living together, feeding aquatic inhabitants should be carried out separately. In some cases, it will be necessary to perform food manipulations right in front of the triton's nose, since this amphibian reacts mainly to the movements of live food.

Breeding process

The ability to multiply in newts appears in the third year of life. The mating process begins at the end of the autumn period and may continue until spring comes. The temperature of the aquatic environment should be lowered to 18 ° C, this will contribute to the process of reproduction of amphibians.

A female discovers and sucks spermatophore, previously deferred by the male. After several days, the female lays off the roe, which is hidden in the leaves of the vegetation. After completion of this process, it is necessary to transplant adult newts so that they do not have the opportunity to use eggs as feed. Larvae will be born in 18 days. Young individuals will become full-fledged tritons only after 10 months of life.

Varieties of newts. Crocodile Tritons

The crocodile newt is a distant congener of the Tunisian and Spanish newts. These bright and colorful newts live in China, Burma, India and Nepal. They live in subtropical forests.

On the body, crocodile newts have orange bright hillocks on the sides, prominently protruding above the surface of the body. The main body color is black-brown. The body is heavy, with a bone “crown” on its head.

These newts are distinguished by unpretentious content. They can live in the aquarium all year round and endure rather high temperatures. But crocodile newts are characterized by a high intraspecific aggression, and therefore, in one terrarium do not contain several males.

Tritons lead both aquatic and terrestrial lifestyles and have the ability to regenerate.

American tritons

American newts are represented by two genera: Californian and greenish newts. Both genus are highly poisonous. Tarychotoxin poison or fugu fish poison is released from the skin of these newts. In all newts, the skin secretions contain this poison, but not in such a significant amount.

Californian tritons are rather large - the body length reaches 20 centimeters. The body is folded roughly. Skin is warty.

The homeland of California tritons is the west coast of the United States. In the Russian terrariums, these newts are not yet bred.

Tritons are common in most of Europe, Russia and the Middle East.

Greenish newts have smaller sizes. Their skin is smooth. These newts are much more common. In appearance, they are similar to our ordinary newts. The peculiarity of greenish newts is that the young that have just had a metamorphosis, are completely different from adults. Young newts have a red color. The skin is rough.

Only a few years later, when young tritons return from land to water, the skin becomes smooth and acquires an adult olive color.

An interesting feature of the genus is the chromosomal abnormality, due to which 50% of offspring always die at the stage of the embryo.

Eurasian newts

The Eurasian newts include the comb, common, Iranian, fire-bellied and other types of newts. The Sardinian and Corsican mountain tritons living in mountain streams stand out among these newts by themselves. They have slender bodies, well-formed lip folds on the body and paddle-like tails.

At the same time, there are species that prefer standing bodies of water, for example, rice fields, puddles and ponds, as well as species that live in streams and rivers of hilly terrain.

The species rarely found in aquariums of Russian lovers include: fire-bellied and Spanish triton.

The most common representative of East Asian tritons is a pygmy fire-bellied newt. These newts are found in terrariums almost as often as Spanish newts. Like many East Asian tritons, dwarf fire-bellied newts tolerate high temperatures well. They can live in room aquariums, but they are more gentle in comparison with the Spanish newts.

Compatibility of tritons and fish

It is not easy to keep tritons together with fish, because fish mostly live at a temperature of about 25 degrees, and for many species of tritons, the upper limit of temperature is 22 degrees.

These amphibians are quite hardy and unpretentious.

If, nevertheless, the goal is to make a joint aquarium, then the fish should be small, for example, neons, guppies, danios, cardinals. But It is worth noting that amphibians are more frisky, and they can eat small neighbors.

The conditions of the content of newts in the aquarium

Aquarium should have a good filter. In addition, a daily water change of 15-20% is required. Each individual relies about 15 liters of water. If the room temperature exceeds 22 degrees, then there is a need for cooling water. This can be done using ice bottles, which are periodically lowered into the aquarium.

The soil should be large enough, rounded, so that the newt does not hurt and swallow it. It is recommended to plant live plants in the ground, but you can also use artificial ones. In the leaves of plants, newts wrap eggs during breeding.

Spanish newts are found on the territory of Spain and Portugal, and are protected by Spanish law.

If there are live plants in the aquarium, then you need to take care of artificial lighting, and if the plants are artificial, the lamps can not be installed at all.

Feeding newts

It is recommended to feed tritons with live food: pipe makers, bloodworms, snails, earthworms, small aquarium shrimps. In addition, tritonam can be given finely chopped squid and beef liver.

If tritons are kept together with fish, then they take care that the fish do not overeat as they have time to eat their food and enjoy the food of the newts. You can tweezers next to tritons with tweezers. It is worth noting that amphibians are able to notice only stirring food, and they find immobile by means of smell.

A distinctive feature of the form are pointed ends of the ribs with a poisonous substance, acting in case of danger.

Small newts are fed 2 times a day, and it is enough for adult newts to give food every other day.
Sexual maturity in tritons occurs in the 3rd year of life. After the mating season, molting takes place several times in tritons. In the process of shedding, they rub their faces against pebbles, then they take themselves by the tail and completely tighten the skin. Tritons eat old skin.

Description of aquarium newt

This name belonged to the sea god of the Greek pantheon. From a biological point of view, amphibians with a tail from the family of salamanders are called tritons.

Domestic newt is a small lizard up to twenty centimeters long. Half the length of the body takes the tail. Limbs well developed, have three or four fingers. Hind feet five. In the water element, they are excellent swimmers and runners, but on the air they become sharply clumsy.

Animal breathing depends on the stage of development. At the larval stage, oxygen enters through the gill slits. When growing up instead of the gills formed pulmonary system. The back is covered with lumps, while the abdomen is flat. Coloring depends on the species, habitat and state of maturity.

Triton - predatory amphibian

The vision is weakened, but fully reimbursed by a magnificent sense of smell. This predatory amphibian, has teeth in the form of a cone.

The habitat of the "sea god" is the entire planet, except for the icy areas. Wherever there is fresh water and plants, you can meet newts.

Spiny (Spanish)

In a state of calm skin with bumps, dark brown hue. On the sides are specks of red or orange hue. In these spots, at danger, "needles" appear. Actually the needles are the protruding part of the ribs.

A belly of light green shade. Frog-like head, legs short. The tail is rounded, no comb.

There are no distinctive features between males and females. The size of a mature individual reaches twenty three centimeters. With proper maintenance and eating properly, the Spanish representative of the species can live up to twenty years.

Spiny (Spanish)

Comb

Color brownish black, spotted. The sides are brighter in shallow white dots. The belly is yellow or orange. Comb intermittent. On the body and tail differs in shape and height.

The height of the scallop reaches one and a half centimeters. On the tail to one centimeter. The body length of sexually mature males is up to eighteen centimeters, females - up to fifteen.

Only sexually mature males have a dorsal crest. When maximized, it is only at risk. Females do not possess a crest.

Comb

East American

Color green shade with red or orange transition. On the back of the speck is red or orange with a dark rim. In length grow from nine to twelve centimeters. The tail has an acute shape.

In case of danger, a toxic mucous substance is released on the surface of the skin.

East American

The color is very unusual: anthracite-milky spots, light orange orange on the paws. Individuals grow from ten to seventeen centimeters long.

In captivity require especially careful care. High mortality when buying due to poor health.

Iranian

Crocodile

Bright contrast in color attracts attention. The main color of the body is brown. Along the ridge and on the sides of the head there are yellow-orange or reddish stripes. On the sides of the same shade of tubercle. Tail and paws as bright shade. In length reach twenty centimeters.

The growths on the head resemble a crown. Thanks to them, the color of crocodile newts is called "imperial".

Crocodile

Asia Minor

In length, this species reaches sixteen centimeters. The color is olive, with yellowish streaks and a white stripe along the sides. The high ridge on the back is striped and the tail comb is spotty.

Comb tail two-sided. The maximum height of such ridges reaches five centimeters.

Asia Minor

Home conditions in the aquarium

It is preferable to keep in aquaterrarium. However, it is possible to convert an ordinary aquarium.

  • Vital for newts is land plot. This may be a mound of stones, a large plant or special decorations.
  • The volume of water in the aquarium should not be less than fifteen liters. Triton need space for maneuvers.
  • The soil in the aquarium should be larger than the animal can swallow it.
  • In the aquarium should be present plants. They are a haven for an amphibian, as well as a place for laying eggs.

The tank should be covered. Tritons at any time can go on a journey beyond the walls of the aquarium, as a result of which injuries and death of the animal are inevitable.

In the triton aquarium there must be plants

What to feed a pet

Tritons are predatory animals, therefore the food should be appropriate for them. They eat different types of worms, tadpoles and slugs can be an excellent diet. Nevertheless, tritons will eat and quietly digest pieces of chicken meat, liver and defrosted fish.

Triton Content

The maintenance of these amphibians requires an aquarium with a small floating raft or a horizontal aquaterrarium with soil rising and forming a stretch of shore. The volume of aquaterrarium for different species can be from 20 to 50 liters per couple of individuals.

The soil is gravel without sharp edges or small pebbles. In the water must be installed filter. The presence of both in the water and on the land part of living plants is very desirable. Species can be any, because these animals behave very intelligently in the aquarium and do not spoil the greenery, but some of the aquarium plants should be with small soft leaves - newts wrap their eggs in such leaves.

The container with tritons must surely close securely, as they calmly climb on vertical glasses and love to run away from the aquarium. The smallest of them can crawl into any slot at all, so it is better to glue even the holes for the wires in the container with them (my red breasts managed to escape through them twice).

The most important and difficult requirement for these animals is that they need a stable low temperature of air and water, for most species within 18-21 ° C. In warmer water, metabolism is accelerated in tritons, they get sick more often and die faster.

To keep the temperature low, use computer coolers that can cool water a couple of degrees, ice bottles that are constantly changing. Of course, the ideal option is to use a special cooling system for aquariums (a very expensive thing!), As well as to place tanks with amphibians in an uninhabited room with constantly operating air conditioning or in a cool basement.

For two species - the needle and the Chinese dwarf - the temperature is acceptable up to 24-25 ° C. They are the most popular (and in general, the only frequent newts) among Russian lovers. In general, there are quite a lot of species of newts held in captivity.

Water tritons

These types of content enough for an aquarium with a small floating island.

Spanish (spiky, ribbed) newt (Pleurodeles waltli). Size up to 30 cm, color ugly with gray, black and yellow-orange tones.

The content is undemanding, suitable for beginners. For a couple, it is enough to have an aquarium of 50 liters, desirable (though not necessary) soil (gravel or small pebbles) and live plants.

The land plot is optional, as the triton can lead a completely aquatic lifestyle.

The only species of newts in the Russian zootorgovle, whose young appear and grow in captivity (almost all representatives of other species are caught in nature). It is most adapted to the conditions of the aquarium.

Red-bellied (Chinese, dwarf) newt (Cynops orientalis). The smallest and easiest to keep newt, so one of the most common.

Externally, it is distinguished by a bright orange or cinnamon-red belly with dark spots and a rounded tail at the end. Tolerates fever and moderate water pollution, non-aggressive, undisguised.

It breeds well in captivity without creating special conditions. Alternating water and terrestrial lifestyle, so an island in the water is needed necessarily.

Despite the fact that this species breeds easily in captivity, most of the dwarf newts in Russian pet stores are wild specimens caught in the reservoirs of China.

Relatives of the Chinese Red-Belly:

  • Japanese fireburn (Cynops pyrrhogaster),
  • Okinawan or swordtail (Synops ensicauda),
  • Blue-tailed Flames (Cynops cyanurus).

Short-legged red-bellied newt, pachyriton (Pachytriton labiatus). Sometimes found on sale under the name of a giant stone salamander. It lives exclusively in water, it is not necessary to equip it for land. Demanding conditions: the water temperature is strictly 18-20 ° C, it must be very clean with a low level of nitrogen compounds. Tritons are aggressive and can damage each other in fights, so it is recommended to keep them individually or in a large, sheltered aquarium.

Common Triton (Lissotriturus vulgaris)

Brownish-olive, males with dark spots and well pronounced crest. Length up to 9-12 cm.

Keeping in captivity is of no particular interest: animals are very secretive, therefore they hide during the daytime and try to escape into the dark.

Iranian, or Zagros newt (Neurergus kaiseri)

Rare handsome man with white, anthracite and orange tones in color. Length up to 18 cm. Appear on sale extremely rare, very expensive. The species is protected, so catching them is prohibited. In addition, individuals caught in nature fall on the market weakened and, as a rule, die quickly, especially in inept hands.

Therefore, representatives of this type should be acquired only from professional collectors-breeders. They are contained in the aquaterrarium with a pebble beach, the water temperature is up to 23 degrees, high-quality filtration, but without a strong current.

Rest period

Since the aquatic and terrestrial periods alternate in the life cycle of tritons, wintering, or dormancy, is of great importance for some species. Wintering allows you to move from the terrestrial to the aquatic phase (the breeding phase).

For Spanish and dwarf newts, hibernation is not mandatory, but for the common, comb, Asia Minor, Iranian and others, it is very desirable, without it, they most likely will not be able to spawn, their seasonal cycle will be broken, and the lifetime will be reduced.

To put the animal to winter:

  • within two weeks, gradually reduce the temperature of the water and the length of daylight hours, bringing it to 10-15 ° C,
  • then animals are placed in a cage with a wet sphagnum, kept there at this temperature for 3-4 days,
  • After this, the tank is removed in the refrigerator (on the door or in the vegetable compartment) for one and a half to two months.

During the rest period, it is necessary to monitor the humidity of the substrate and sometimes offer food to the tritons - some of them are not averse to snacking during wintering. In areas with mild winters, you can place the cage near a slightly open window or balcony door.

Asia Minor tritons, which at the time of wintering were in the water phase, can winter in an aquarium at a temperature of 4-5 ° C.

From the state of rest tritons derive, gradually increasing the temperature and length of daylight hours. After wintering, they are heavily fed and provide access to water, where males of some species grow a crest, and then proceed to mating and breeding.

Breeding

For those animals that did not hibernate, the stimulus for reproduction is a decrease in water temperature and its considerable substitution, and then an increase and the inclusion of aeration, accompanied by abundant feeding with live food. Details on the reproduction and development of larvae can be found in the article on Chinese red-bellied newts.

Is it possible to keep newts with other animals?

For all species of newts, species, that is, containing individuals of only one species, aquaterrarium, is preferred. Moreover, for some aggressive species, such as Asia Minor or Pahitriton, the number of animals in one tank should be limited, and everyone should be provided with shelters.

Sometimes you can keep together peaceful, similar in size, related species of newts, for example, dwarf and blue-tailed, but in this case, you need to carefully observe that the animals do not offend each other.

Keeping amphibians with fish is undesirable for several reasons:

  • As a rule, fishermen need other housing conditions - higher temperatures and more water,
  • large predatory fish can damage the tritons, and small ones will try to eat the newts themselves,
  • some amphibian skin glands secrete poisonous mucus,
  • in the presence of nimble fish in the aquarium, the slow-moving newts will not get food, unless they feed each of them personally with tweezers,
  • Fish and newts have many common diseases, while the amphibian treatment regimens are much worse, so it may happen that the newts will die from a disease that the fish will endure easily.

Therefore, keeping newts with other aquarium animals is not recommended. If you really want to add color and movement to the imperturbable tritershnik, as an exception to the small warm-water tritons (dwarf or young Spanish) you can put:

  • not too small unpretentious fish such as guppies or plazily,
  • medium-sized, quiet catfish, for example, corridors,
  • shrimp-cherries (but you need to bear in mind that their young will certainly go to newts for lunch),
  • frogs hymenohiruses,
  • large beautiful snails, for example, my tritershnik very decorated blue and blueberry ampulyarii.

However, the aquaterrarium with tritons does not need a special decoration. These amphibians themselves are very attractive and interesting, and some difficulties in their maintenance should only add to the owner of excitement.
