Foam houses for dogs are inexpensively sold at every pet store, but usually they are intended for miniature breeds comparable in size to cats. If your pet is larger, you can do needlework and create a house for your beloved dog with your own hands, from foam rubber or other material.

Foam rubber as a base is suitable for animals whose body weight does not exceed 20-24 kg. For the more massive and tall breeds, foam-rubber houses are usually not made, limited to comfortable bedding and mattresses for dogs.

How to make a house on the basis of foam rubber

The easiest way to make a cubic dog house with your own hands. Not much harder to make a pyramid house or a miniature lair with a round or oval bottom. Other forms are more difficult to manufacture.

Different craftswomen use different methods of work. You can first cover the fabric with all the details, and then combine them together. A construction in which foam rubber is immediately placed between two layers of upholstery is somewhat more complicated: it is so difficult to fit parts without distortions and asymmetry. When cutting out the details of fabric upholstery, do not forget to add 1.5-2 cm on each side of the part. The thicker the foam rubber you have taken, the more allowance will be required.

Inside the house is better to put a mattress with replaceable pillowcases. So it is easier to maintain cleanliness.

Choosing a house model for your pet, do not get carried away by the abundant decor. The smaller the decorative elements, the easier it will be to keep it clean.. In addition, a small dog can easily gnaw and swallow small elements of the decor, but this is not at all useful. Swallowed inedible items can lead to frustration, vomiting, gastritis, and even intestinal blockage.

The height of the house should be such that your pet can stand inside in full growth, without bending their heads. The length and width should allow the dog to lie on its side, stretched out and not bending the paws.

It is good that the booth has a vestibule and a carport at the entrance. In areas with harsh winters, the booth must be insulated with environmentally friendly materials, and the hole must be curtained with thick fabric or quilted sackcloth.

The whole structure is not located on the ground, but on a wooden platform raised 10-15 cm above the ground. The platform must have a slight inclination so that the moisture drains without accumulating. The wood must be pre-treated with special compounds that protect it from rotting, pests, fungus.

Conveniently, when the booth is located inside the aviary - this will allow you to lock the dog in case of need. It is better to make the roof removable or opening in order to be able to clean and disinfect inside the house from time to time. Under the roof, you can arrange a box for storing supplies and toys. Roof do either gable or shed with a slope. The second option is more convenient for the animal: most dogs adore lying on the roof of their home, overlooking the neighborhood or just basking in the sun.

Most often for wooden booths use coniferous wood, well dried and treated with antiseptics. For external and internal plating, thick plywood (at least 5 mm) or lining is suitable.

For the device of the floor is better to take the floorboard. The framework is made of a wooden bar of 40-50 mm. The larger the booth, the safer the frame should be. For the roof, you can use different materials: wood, slate, tile and other roofing materials.

In the summer, inside the booth, you can put a rug or a thin mattress, and in the winter, fill the sleeping area with hay or prepare a thicker mattress. Before the change of seasons, it is necessary to make general cleaning inside the booth:

process the interior of the house with disinfectants and agents for fleas and ticks.
