Maxidine is a drug that stimulates the work of immunity in pets. It has a pronounced antiviral effect. He has worked well in infections. But if he is suitable for your pet, the instructions for using Maxidine for cats will help you understand.
Maxidin stimulates the body's resistance when viruses enter it, blocks their reproduction, activates the activity of macrophages.
Maxidine for cats is produced in two forms: eye and nose drops and injection solution. The main active ingredient of the drug is bis-pyridine-2,6-germanium dicarboxylate. Eye drops are represented by a 0.15% solution of the basic substance on water, a solution for injections is a 0.4% solution. Auxiliary components: saline, monoethanolamine, distilled water.
Drug outwardly - colorless liquid. The packaging is made in glass containers of 5 ml. Packed in 5 pieces of a cardboard box, plus instructions for using the drug.
Stored medicine in the dark, in conditions from 4 ° C to 25 ° C, no more than two years.
pharmachologic effect
The active substance Maxidin, getting into the cells of animal tissues, causes the body to resist the effects of pathogenic microorganisms, triggers innate immunity. Maxidine for cats, in addition to the immunomodulatory effect, also works as a powerful tool against viruses and inflammations.
The drug stimulates the synthesis of interferon. Its action aims to stop the production of virus proteins, which counteracts the start of the process of infection multiplication in tissues and organs of a healthy organism. The drug kills the viral agent without harming the cat.
An important point is the enhancement of immunity due to increased activity of macrophages. As a result, the process of phagocytosis is started (absorption of foreign agents), metabolic processes are improved.
Maxidine 0.15 (drops) is prescribed for cats with infectious, allergic and chronic diseases of the eyes and upper respiratory tract. These are rhinitis, conjunctivitis, keratoconjunctivitis, blepharitis of viral origin.
Maxidine 0.4 (injection) is prescribed for carnivorous plague, dermatitis, viral enteritis as an immunomodulating drug. It is also used to improve the quality of the woolly coat in cats before participating in any shows. The drug can be used to treat dogs.
Mode of application
Maxidine in droplets for cats is buried 2-3 times a day, 1-2 drops in the nose and / or eyes until the animal recovers. Instructions for use drops prescribes that treatment can be carried out no more than two weeks. Before instillation, you must thoroughly clean the nose and conjunctiva of the eyes from the dried crusts of pus and mucus secretions.
Maxidin 0.4 is injected subcutaneously or an intramuscular injection is given 2 times a day for 2-5 days. The amount of drug administered depends on the weight of the cat.:
- up to 5 kg - 0.5 ml,
- 10 kg or more - 1.0 ml.
No specific features in the behavior and well-being of cats after the first administration of the medication, as well as after its cancellation, have been identified.
It is not recommended to skip the medication, as the therapeutic effect can be reduced. If, however, this happened, then the next batch of medication should be given as soon as possible. The time of subsequent receptions does not change.
You can give Maxidin to a cat even if you use other drugs. We combine it with any food additives and feed.
Contraindications and side effects
The only contraindication for the use of Maxidine for cats is a high susceptibility to the components of the drug.
Do not use the medication if the color and consistency of the medicinal solution has changed, if there is damage on the bottle, if the shelf life has expired.
Side effects Maxidine for cats does not. But despite this, for the appointment of dosages cats need to contact a veterinarian.
Benefits
A huge advantage of Maxidin over other drugs of similar action is the absence of side effects from the use and a small number of contraindications. The drug gives good results in combating the diseases indicated in the instructions. And according to reviews, and the price is acceptable.
Maxidine can be used during pregnancy and lactation. Allowed to give it to kittens from 2 months of age.
special instructions
If during the taking of the drug, the pet shows signs of allergy, it is necessary to stop taking the medication further and give the patient anti-allergic drugs.
During the work with solution it is necessary to maintain sterile conditions. The instruction prohibits eating, drinking, smoking while using Maxidine. Wash hands thoroughly after work.
If the person working with the drug is allergic to the drug, then direct contact should be avoided, and in case of contact with the skin, wash or wipe with a damp cloth.
Pharmaceutical companies produce other equally effective drugs to increase immunity in animals that have antiviral properties. Among them:
But it must be remembered that the replacement of drugs with analogues should be made only in consultation with a specialist.
Do not forget to carry out preventive measures. The health of your pets is in your hands.
Description and effect of the drug
This drug is manufactured by GamaVetFarm, which is a partner of Micro Plus. This drug helps to increase immunity and is an immunomodulator.
In order not to use complex and little-understood medical terms describing the effect of this drug, let's say in simple language: this drug increases the activity of specific cells of the body (macrophages) that move to the site of infection or inflammation and destroy foreign particles (microorganisms). Because of this ability, macrophages perform a protective function of the body, and Maxidine stimulates them. The instruction also states that the drug effectively fights against viruses and activates the body’s natural defenses.
The active substance of this veterinary medicine is an organometallic compound of Germany. Maxidine has the appearance of a clear liquid without color, it is packaged in 5 ml vials. Each pack contains five such bottles. This medicine is available in two different concentrations of 0.15% and 0.4%. This means that the content of the active substance in 1 ml of the drug is 1.5 mg and 4 mg, respectively.
Instructions for use
The manufacturer claims that the only case falling under the category of contraindications is heightened individual sensitivity to the components of the drug. In other cases, it is well tolerated by animals and does not cause adverse body reactions. It can also be used to treat or prevent diseases in pregnant or lactating cats. This tool is allowed to use kittens who have reached 2 months of age, but strictly for the purpose and under the supervision of a veterinarian.
According to the instructions for use, Maxidin 0.4 is a solution for injections. Its price is 2-2.5 times higher than that of Maxidin 0.15, intended for instillation into the eyes and nose.
The injectable form of the drug is shown as one of the tools to improve immunity in the fight against:
- immunodeficiency
- viral enteritis,
- panleukopenia,
- plague carnivorous,
- infectious rhinotracheitis,
- calicivirosis,
- demodicosis,
- helminthiasis.
Also, this drug is used in veterinary medicine to combat dermatitis and alopecia cats. In addition, it can be used in conjunction with other drugs and special additives.
The instructions for use Maxidin 0.4 says that the drug is injected either subcutaneously or intramuscularly. Injections should be done twice a day. The duration of treatment is from two to five days. Measure the correct dosage is not difficult: a pet weighing up to 5 kg is recommended a dose of 0.5 ml, 1 ml of medicine is required for 10 kg of weight.
Maxidine 0.15 is prescribed to cats as an immunomodulatory agent in cases of corneal lesions, conjunctivitis and rhinitis, the causes of which may be infections or allergies. It is also shown to pets with inflammation of the eyelids, iris and choroid.
The instruction of the preparation with a dosage of 0.15 (drops) informs that it is necessary to bury 1-2 drops in each eye or nostril, two or three times a day until the pet is completely cured. The duration of treatment should not exceed 14 days.
Before you drip the medicine, be sure to carefully clean the eyes or nose of the animal from the formed crusts, dirt, or any other discharge.
Special Information
It is worth noting that if the liquid in the vial changes color, dims, or there are impurities in it - it cannot be used. Also, before using, you must make sure that the integrity of the medicine bottle has not been compromised, and be sure to check the labeling indicating the expiration date. When the requirements for storage of the drug are met, its shelf life is two years from the date of manufacture. It is strictly forbidden to treat an animal using an expired remedy!
One pack contains five Maxidin bubbles. You can buy the whole package at once or by the piece. Drops Maxidin 0.15: the price of one bottle will be 45-65 p., And packing - 200 - 250 p.
The price of an injection Maxidin 0.4 for cats: 120 - 200 p. per bottle, and 590 - 630 p. per pack. Considering that the average domestic cat weighs about five kg, then one bottle is enough just for a five-day course of treatment, which is generally not very expensive.
This veterinary medicine is bought not only by owners of sick animals. He proved himself so well that many breeders use it as an excellent means of improving the state of wool, during the preparation for exhibitions.
Prescription drug
The strong antiviral effect of maxidine is due to its ability to “boost” immunity when it encounters viruses and block their reproduction by activating macrophages (cells that devour toxic and foreign elements for the body). Both drugs (maxidin 0.15 and maxidin 0.4) have proven to be good immunomodulators with the same pharmacological properties, but different directions.
General pharmacological quality:
- stimulation of immunity (cellular and humoral),
- blocking viral proteins,
- increase the body's resistance
- the urge to reproduce our own interferons,
- activation of T and B lymphocytes, as well as macrophages.
Further differences begin. Maxidin 0.4 refers to drugs of a wider spectrum of action than maxidine 0.15, and is prescribed for serious viral diseases (panleukopenia, coronavirus enteritis, calicivirosis, plague of carnivores and infectious rhinotracheitis).
Important! In addition, maxidine 0.4 is used to combat alopecia (hair loss), skin diseases and in the complex therapy of such parasitic ailments as demodicosis and helminthiasis.
Maxidin 0.15 is sometimes called eye drops, since it is for this purpose that it is usually prescribed in veterinary clinics (by the way, both cats and dogs). An immunomodulating solution of 0.15% is intended for instillation into the eyes / nasal cavity.
Maxidine 0.15 is indicated for the following diseases (infectious and allergic):
- conjunctivitis and keratoconjunctivitis,
- the initial stages of the formation of a catcher
- rhinitis of different etiology,
- eye injuries, including mechanical and chemical,
- discharge from the eyes, including allergies.
It is interesting! A saturated solution of maxidine (0.4%) is used to withstand severe viral infections, while a less concentrated solution (0.15%) is needed to maintain local immunity, for example, if you have a cold.
But, on the basis of equal compositions and pharmacological properties of both drugs, doctors often prescribe maxidin 0.15 instead of maxidin 0.4 (especially if the owner of the cat does not know how to give injections, and the disease itself has a slight course).
Composition, release form
The central active ingredient of maxidine is BPDG, or bis (pyridine-2,6-dicarboxylate) germanium, whose proportion is higher in maxidine 0.4 and reduced (almost 3 times) in maxidine 0.15.
Germanium-organic compound, known as BPDG, was first described in the Russian Copyright Certificate (1990) as a substance with a narrow spectrum of immunomodulating activity.
Its disadvantages include a shortage of raw materials (germanium-chloroform), necessary for the production of BPDG. The auxiliary components of maxidin are sodium chloride, monoethanolamine and water for injection. Preparations do not differ in appearance, representing a transparent sterile solutions (no color), but differ in the scope of application.
Important! Maxidine 0.15 is injected into the eyes and the nasal cavity (intranasally), and Maxidine 0.4 is intended for injection (intramuscular and subcutaneous).
Maxidin 0.15 / 0.4 goes on sale in glass vials of 5 ml, closed with rubber stoppers, which are fixed with aluminum caps. Vials (5 pieces) are packed in cardboard boxes and are accompanied by instructions. The developer of maxidine is ZAO Micro-plus (Moscow) - a major domestic manufacturer of veterinary drugs.. The company, registered in 1992, united scientists from the Institute of Poliomyelitis and Viral Encephalitis, the Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology. Gamalei and the Institute of Organic Chemistry.
Instructions for use
The developer informs that both drugs can be used in combination with any drugs, feeds and nutritional supplements.
Important! Maxidine 0.4% is injected (in compliance with the norms of asepsis and antisepsis) subcutaneously or intramuscularly. Injections are made twice a day for 2–5 days, taking into account the recommended dosage - 0.5 ml maxidin per 5 kg of cat weight.
Before using maxidine 0.15%, the eyes / nose of the animal is cleansed of crusts and accumulated secretions, and then washed. Instill (taking into account the recommendations of the doctor) 1-2 drops in each eye and / or nostril 2 to 3 times a day until the cat is completely cured. The course of treatment with maxidine 0.15 should not exceed 14 days.
Contraindications
Maxidine is not prescribed for individual sensitivity to its components and is canceled if any allergic manifestations occur, which stop with antihistamine drugs. At the same time, maxidine 0.15 and 0.4 can be recommended for the treatment of pregnant / lactating cats, as well as kittens from 2 months of age (if there are vital indications and constant medical monitoring).
Precautionary measures
Carefully handle maxidine should all people in contact with him, for which we must adhere to simple rules of personal hygiene and safety standards established to work with drugs.
When using solutions it is forbidden to smoke, eat food and any drinks.. In case of accidental contact with maxidine on the open skin or in the eyes, they are washed under running water. After completing the work, the hands must be washed with soap.
It is interesting! In the event of accidental ingestion of a solution into the body or in the event of a spontaneous allergic reaction, it is necessary to immediately contact the polyclinic (taking the drug or instructions with it).
Direct (direct) contact with maxidine is contraindicated for anyone who is hypersensitive to its active ingredients.
Side effects
The developer indicates that the correct use and exact dosage of maxidin 0,15 / 0,4 do not entail any side effects, if the terms and conditions of its storage are met. Maxidine, placed in a dry and dark place, retains its therapeutic qualities for 2 years and should be stored in its original packaging (away from feed and products) at a temperature of 4 to 25 degrees.
The drug is prohibited to use if there are such signs:
- the integrity of the packaging is compromised
- mechanical impurities were found in the vial,
- fluid dims / changes color
- Expired shelf life.
Empty vials from under maxidine cannot be reused for any purpose: glass containers are disposed of with household waste.
Cost of maxidine for cats
Maxidine can be found in stationary veterinary pharmacies, as well as in the Internet space. The average cost of the drug:
- Maxidine 0.15 packaging (5 bottles of 5 ml each) - 275 rubles,
- maxidin packaging 0.4 (5 bottles of 5 ml) - 725 rubles.
By the way, in many pharmacies it is allowed to purchase maxidin not in a package, but individually.
Maxidine Reviews
Inexpensive, safe and very effective drug. I found out about maksidine when my cat got rhinotracheitis from her partner during mating. Immediately needed a means of improving immunity, and our veterinarian advised to buy maxidin, whose action is based on the stimulation of local immunity (like Derinat). Maxidin helped quickly get rid of rhinotracheitis.
Then I decided to try a drug to combat tearing: we have a Persian cat, who constantly has watery eyes. До максидина я рассчитывала только на антибиотики, но теперь закапываю максидин 0,15 курсами по 2 недели. Результат сохраняется на 3 недели.
My cat has weak eyes since childhood: it is quickly inflamed, flowing. I always bought levomycytoic or tetracycline eye ointment, but they did not help when we arrived in the village, and the cat caught some infection on the street.
It will also be interesting:
That just didn’t drift on him until she read about 0.15 Maksidin (antiviral, hypoallergenic and enhancing immunity), acting as interferon. One bottle cost 65 rubles, and on the third day of treatment, my cat opened his eyes. Drip 2 drops three times a day. A real miracle after a month of unsuccessful treatment! What is important, completely without harm to the animal (even the eyes do not pinch). I definitely recommend this drug.
Description of the drug Maxidin
Maxidin (Maxidin) is a veterinary medicinal product that is used for immunocorrection in the fight against diseases of viral origin. The developer of this medication is the Moscow organization ZAO Micro-Plus. Drugs from this manufacturer have long been popular among pet owners, and they are sold in almost every veterinary pharmacy.
Maxidine can be bought at any veterinary pharmacy
Antiviral and immunomodulatory effects of Maxidine are determined by its following properties:
- increasing the body's resistance to disease (therefore, it is often used to prevent viral diseases),
- increased activity of the lymphatic system, due to which the lymphocytes are activated,
- stimulation of the synthesis of its own interferon,
- increased phagocytosis (own lymphocytes absorb and suppress the foci of inflammation, foreign proteins and virus cells),
- acceleration of oxidative metabolism (cellular respiration).
In other words, the active substance Maxidin, getting into the blood, "causes" the body to fight with hostile cells.
The composition of Maxidine
The preparation contains the following components:
- bis (pyridine-2,6-dicarboxylate) germanium 1.5 mg or 4 mg (active ingredient),
- water for injection up to 1 ml
- sodium chloride 5.5 mg,
- monoethanolamine 0,00008 ml.
For some, the name of the active substance may cause confusion. Bis (pyridine-2,6-dicarboxylate) Germany is a compound of chemicals. For the first time this germanium complex was described in 1990. It is known that germanium-organic compounds have a narrow spectrum of action, they can only synthesize interferon, and the raw material for the preparation of this complex is not enough. That is why the properties of this substance are currently used only in medicine and veterinary medicine.
Synthesized interferons protect healthy cells from viruses and help cells already infected to destroy RNA chains of viruses
Release form
Maxidine is produced in a concentration of 0.4% and 0.15% as a clear, colorless solution:
- Maxidine 0.4% is an injection solution that is packaged in 5 ml glass vials, sealed with rubber caps, and the caps themselves are still rolled in with an aluminum cap. This is necessary to preserve the sterility of the solution.
- Maxidine 0.15% is packaged in the same transparent 5 ml bottles. These are drops for instillation into the eyes and nose.
A solution of both concentrations is packed in cartons (5 bottles). The owner of a sick cat can purchase Maxidine in whole packaging or individually. In many pharmacies, the drug is dispensed in 1 bottle (about 50 rubles).
The aluminum cap can be silver or blue. This is due to the release date. The label of the bottle and the box show the manufacturer's logo, the active ingredient and the name of the drug itself are indicated (white letters on a blue background). Also on each bottle in small numbers is a series of release. This element indicates the authenticity of the drug. On forums, there are often heated disputes over the color of the cap, so if you have doubts about the quality of the medicine, pay attention to the series of issues.
Inside the box is laid instructions for use. It details the composition, indications and contraindications, as well as storage conditions. But this does not mean that you can self-medicate. The best friend of a catowner with an animal disease is a veterinarian. Only a specialist can prescribe the correct treatment.
The label of the bottle should contain the same information as on the box.
Characteristics of the drug
Maxidine as an antiviral agent is released in the form of 0.15% water-based eye drops and injection solution of the same concentration. In appearance, it is a colorless transparent liquid with the main active substance BPDG, the auxiliary substances are sodium chloride and monoethanolamine.
The medicine is intended for ocular and nasal installations, intramuscular injections. Maxidine belongs to the category of immunomodulatory drugs. It has a pronounced interferon-inducing activity, has a stimulating effect on the humoral and cellular immunity of cats.
The main active ingredient Maxidin veterinarians are called organometallic germanium. It blocks the transport of proteins containing the virus. As an interferon inducer, germanium increases the natural resistance of the organism of animals.
The practice of using the drug has shown that it effectively stimulates the immunity of pets during the development of pathological processes, and sometimes after infectious diseases. The drug Maxidin enhances oxidative metabolism, so it is used for the treatment of demodicosis, dermatitis. The drug accelerates the recovery of the skin, improves the condition of animal hair.
Veterinarians prescribe Maxidine in cats with rhinotracheitis, calcivirosis, and panclueopenia. The drug has effectively proven itself for the treatment of various forms of conjunctivitis: acute, purulent, serous, chronic.
It is recommended to use it in the fight against rhinitis, allergic keratoconjunctivitis, cataracts, eyeball injuries, for treating the mouth of a cat or cat. The drug is treated and dogs.
How to apply Maxidine
The drug in the form of eye drops should be dripped into the nose and eyes, one or two drops two or three times a day. Before instillation, it is necessary to clean the animal's nose or conjunctiva of the eye. The medicine is used with a pipette. To obtain a stable result, Maxidine drops must be used until the pet is completely cured.
As for the injection form of the drug, it is administered twice a day for 3-5 days. In this case, veterinarians recommend using cats weighing up to 5 kilograms - 0.5 ml of the medicine, more than 5 kg - 1.0 ml. Maxidine can be combined with other drugs as prescribed by a specialist.
Storage conditions of the veterinary drug
The manufacturer gives customers clear storage guidelines:
- the preparation should be stored in a dark and dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources,
- the storage area must not be accessible for children, bystanders and pets,
- need to store the medicine in a place isolated from food and animal feed,
- the drug should be stored in the manufacturer's packaging (it is forbidden to pour into another container),
- recommended storage temperature is 4 to 25 degrees Celsius,
- drug expiration date - 2 years,
- unused, spoiled or expired product is thrown away with household waste.
It is convenient to store veterinary drugs in a separate place. For example, I keep all the cat medicine in a special first aid kit. In addition to drugs, it also has other useful items (bandages, thermometers, scissors, sterile cotton, syringes, etc.). I paste all instructions in a separate notebook (because sometimes the boxes have to be thrown away before the expiration date). My sister keeps some medicines in the fridge (her mother-in-law taught her so), but this is not very convenient - all preparations for treating an animal should be in one place so that at the time of need you don’t need to remember where and what lies.
Maxidine is preferably stored in a first aid kit with other veterinary drugs.
Indications for use
Maxidine is prescribed in the following cases:
- to stimulate their own immunity at risk of contracting viral ailments,
- to combat infectious diseases of viral origin,
- in order to treat severe and long-standing diseases of the upper respiratory tract,
- with viral eye diseases,
- for the treatment of rhinitis, conjunctivitis, blepharitis, etc.
Some people, having noticed the symptoms of some disease, try to choose their own medicine, but this is not always correct. The fact is that we can see external clinical signs, but each individual symptom can speak about a multitude of diseases. To determine the nature of the disease, its duration and severity, detailed analyzes are needed. High-quality diagnostics can be carried out only in a veterinary clinic. In addition, for the use of any medication there are a number of nuances: contraindications, correct dosage, etc.
The most common reason for prescribing Maxidine is conjunctivitis.
Maxidin solution 0.4%
Maxidine 0.4% is more powerful than eye drops, it is used to treat not only cats, but also dogs. This concentration of the drug can not be instilled into the mucous membranes, it is administered in the form of injections. For the treatment of cats, Maxidin 0.4% is usually used for such diseases:
- Calcivirus infection
- rhinotracheitis,
- panleukopenia (distemper),
- demodicosis (subcutaneous mite),
- the presence of worms,
- dermatitis and alopecia,
- immunodeficiency state.
Although Maxidin 0.4% was created for the treatment of purely viral diseases, owners of cats and cats often use this tool to prevent infections. Many people buy this immunomodulator without the recommendations of a veterinarian (sold without a prescription). Among breeders of purebred cats, there is an opinion that Maxidin is able to improve the quality of wool, so the drug is often used before various exhibitions and shows. Smooth, shiny coat speaks not only about the careful care of the animal, but also about its physical condition. And a couple of Maxidin bottles can be taken with you on a journey (in this case, you need not forget about the syringes).
Maxidine 0.4% can be used to prevent infection upon contact with a possible virus carrier.
Drops Maxidin 0.15%
Maxidine 0.15% can be called eye drops, since this solution is used specifically for instillation. In some cases, veterinarians share the concept of "instillation into the eyes" and "irrigation of the nose." Although under irrigation it is considered to be aerosol spray inside the nose, and Maxidine 0.15% is instilled. And the type of use (in the nose or in the eyes) depends on the purpose for which the drug is indicated:
- rhinitis of different etiology,
- inflammations of the mucous membrane of the eyes, including purulent (conjunctivitis, etc.),
- the initial stages of the formation of a catcher,
- discharge from the eyes (with allergies, etc.),
- mechanical and other eye injuries.
The developer of both concentrations implied that a more saturated solution would be used for severely flowing viral diseases, and droplets would be used for local immunity enhancement (for example, a runny nose). But since the form of the drug and the main part of the composition are similar to each other, sometimes drops are prescribed for severe diseases. For example, if the owner of the cat lives far away from the clinic, he does not know how to make injections on his own.
To "get" to the solution itself, you need to release the bottle from the aluminum ring. For this purpose, you can use, for example, scissors, and there will be no problems with a rubber cover (the main thing is not to damage it). If you use the solution for injection, then you just need to bend one or two notches in the center of the cap. This will give you access to a soft rubber cover (you do not need to remove the cap completely).
To open the bottle or create access to the rubber cover, you need to bend the edges of the notches (one of them is shown with a red arrow)
Features of use in cats
To properly apply Maxidine to stimulate the cat's immunity, you need to follow a few rules:
- make sure there is evidence
- choose the right form of the drug (drops or injections),
- calculate the dosage of the immunomodulator,
- draw up the correct usage pattern
- call the veterinary clinic and clarify the dosage and regimen.
If I am sure that the medicine is chosen correctly, I write down both the treatment regimen and the dosage. After that, I call the clinic, and the veterinarian on the phone either approves of my choice, or corrects. If some kind of controversy arises (for example, regarding the diagnosis), the veterinarian recommends that the cat be urgently brought for examination. By the way, sometimes it happens that all available clinics are closed (holiday or day off), and in the round-the-clock "veterinarian" just do not answer the call. For such cases, I have the mobile phone number of our permanent veterinarian (of course, it is not very decent - to call a person on his legal day off, but he is not against calls). Life hacking for cat owners: do not keep a veterinarian business card in your wallet / pocket. The surest place is on the fridge, as well as for the business card of the pediatrician on duty (who has small children - they will understand).
The veterinarian business card should be kept in a prominent place.
Is it possible to make an injection
An intramuscular or subcutaneous injection can be done independently.
When working with the drug for injection you need to follow a number of important rules:
- do not touch the rubber bottle cap and needle with your hands,
- you can only use a sterile syringe,
- before piercing the needle cover with the needle, it is necessary to treat the puncture site with alcohol or an alcohol-containing solution,
- in order to preserve the sterility of the needle, it is necessary to touch it only at the base (in the figure below - the blue part of the needle).
For convenience, the solution should not be inserted into the vial over the entire length into the syringe into the syringe (4–5 millimeters are enough). Otherwise, there will be plenty of air and little solution in the syringe.
When taking the drug in the syringe, the needle does not need to be inserted into the vial for the entire length
The solution must be recruited with a margin (part will be shed when removing air). If air bubbles remain on the inner walls of the syringe, you can knock lightly on it so that they all stick together to the tip of the syringe. Pressing on the piston, squeeze out all the excess air and excess solution (even if a droplet appears on the tip of the syringe). No need to wipe the tip of the needle.
If you need to let the syringe out of your hands, without touching the piston, when you are preparing the cat for an injection, put a cap on the needle (of course, if after removing it you put it back in the package, and not just on the table surface). Otherwise, the base of the cap can be wiped with a cotton swab dipped in alcohol.
My grandmother during the war years worked as a nurse in a hospital. She said that the wounded were brought in dozens or even hundreds. Most arrived with injuries requiring surgical intervention. Antibiotics were severely deficient, so it was extremely important to prevent infection. And the only true disinfectant was alcohol. He especially helped out operating doctors - it was possible to wash hands in a preoperative panic only in a specially designated basin. There is an idea among people that it is possible to disinfect well cologne, but my grandmother learned the experience of field medicine for her whole life - she always kept a small bottle of alcohol in a first-aid kit.
Before the introduction of the drug you need to release all the air from the syringe, a drop of the collected solution should appear at the needle tip
For subcutaneous administration, you can choose the knee crease, but most often the shots are done at the withers. Intramuscular injection is most convenient to do in the outer part of the thigh (the widest place).
Some owners shave the place for future injections for convenience (after all, in the case of treatment injections there will be several). And the place of introduction of the needle is recommended to wipe with alcohol. With the introduction of the drug movement should be smooth, since the injection of Maxidine is quite painful, and jerks, hand trembling and signs of panic in your mood can also scare the cat.
Intramuscular injections are convenient to do in the outer part of the thigh, and subcutaneous injections - at the withers
The use of drops Maxidin 0.15%
Maxidine 0.15% drops is a drug for topical use, so the veterinarian will prescribe a type of instillation in accordance with the treatment regimen of a specific disease (for rhinitis in the nose, for conjunctivitis in the eyes, etc.). The standard scheme of application - 2 drops three times a day (for each nasal passage or eyes).
The place of instillation must be preliminarily cleaned of dirt and secretions, since they will interfere with the good absorption of the drug in the tissue. Of course, it is not necessary to wipe the cat's nose with alcohol or to brush its eyes with a brush, a simple cotton wool dipped in clean water will be enough. By the way, now in veterinary pharmacies sell special solutions for wiping the eyes, they are suitable for the nose.
It is not necessary to keep the cat on "starvation rations" before using Maxidine. This medicine can be used regardless of the feeding schedule.
Features of use in pregnant cats and kittens
Pregnant and lactating cats often manage to "pick up" some kind of infection. This is due to the fact that before the onset of pregnancy cats have contact with a partner (always). It is not recommended to select such a drug for immunocorrection of a pregnant cat on its own.
Small kittens (newborns and after 1 month) are not treated with Maxidine. This preparation is shown only to kittens after they reach two months of age. And often Maxidin needs to be combined with Novocain (due to painful injection). Drops for babies are prescribed in the same way as for adult cats, but injections are recommended 2 times a day. But there is a reservation: if you are going to treat a kitten only with Maxidine, then you can immediately abandon this venture. The fact is that when using only this drug, the body's immune system starts to work incorrectly, and the disease can turn into a chronic form.
If we are talking about the prevention of any diseases, kittens use this immunomodulator is undesirable. Be that as it may, but any medicine is an intervention in the work of the organism, no one can guarantee that such manipulation will not lead to a negative result. It is better not to expose kittens to such a risk.
Maxidine can be used to treat kittens older than 2 months.
Interaction with other drugs
Like any other immunomodulator, Maxidine (both drops and injection) is effective in combination with other drugs. Therefore, it is often prescribed in combination therapy with the following medications:
- antibiotics (they will fight the virus themselves),
- decongestants (for example, in allergic conjunctivitis),
- healing preparations (for example, ointments),
- painkillers (Novocain, etc.),
- cardiac medications (for example, sulfocamphocain for tachycardia).
Maxidine is easily combined with most veterinary drugs.
Often, veterinarians prescribe Maxidine with Fosprenil. It is believed that these are analogues, although in fact immunomodulators act in different ways. In addition, the two immunocorrective drugs have a double effect, so these recommendations should not be neglected.
Possible side effects and contraindications
If you follow all the recommendations specified in the instructions, then there will be no side effects. Most cat owners confirm that the treatment was successful, with no undesirable consequences.
The only contraindication to the use of Maxidine is individual intolerance to the components of the immunomodulator. A cat may not have such a feature, but sometimes it is hypersensitive. Usually, the owners know that their pet can be classified as such (they find it difficult to choose food, they vomit from each tablet, etc.).
If a cat has an allergic reaction to the medication, the use of Maxidin should be urgently canceled, and the cat should be referred to a veterinarian. Instead of Maxidin, he will prescribe another immunocorrective agent, and to relieve symptoms, select an allergy remedy (for example, Suprastin). This is a general recommendation, as usually Maxidine does not cause allergies.
