Thai cat - the progenitress of modern Siamese cats, which is characterized by such features:

  • expressive color-point and blue-blue eyes,
  • medium size and developed muscles,
  • the ability to change with age to darker,
  • no undercoat (in animals bred in Russia, a small undercoat is allowed),
  • outstanding intellectual abilities
  • love for people, sociability,
  • talkativeness (answer when talking to them),
  • responsiveness, in most cases the absence of aggression,
  • good health.

Thai is considered one of the most ancient breeds in the world. It is also called the Old Siam or traditional Siamese breed. This is what the Siam looked like until felinologists did not engage in breeding work.

Breed advantages

  • Spectacular appearance - exterior is not subject to external changes.
  • Lack of claustrophobia - periodically animals can be left at home alone.
  • Mind and quickness - animals are amenable to training.
  • Excellent hunting qualities - will save the house from unnecessary living creatures.
  • The ability to dialogue is a very talkative breed.
  • Compassion - subtly feel the mood of the owner, do not wake up in the morning.
  • Affectionate with children - sometimes Thais are used as a nanny.
  • Activity, curiosity and playfulness - they love to be in the center of events, take part in family life.

Breed flaws

  • A loud voice and a great desire to communicate is always manifested, especially when the owner tries to hide from the pet in another room. Loneliness they do not like.
  • Independent character, perseverance - love to pursue their own. But among the Thai tribe there are easy-going purrs.
  • Cold and drafts are dangerous for them - from low temperatures darken earlier than they should be.
  • Their curiosity can lead to problems - take care of the nets on the windows and check if there are any poisonous plants in the house.

The nature and behavior

If you are looking for an active pet, ready to follow you on the heels - this is your breed. Old-type Siamese cats are constantly in motion. They look out for what you do and look for "prey."

By temperament Thai cats are all different. They differ in their habits. There are balanced intelligent pets, there are whimsical cats. The character is influenced by heredity and the kind of education that the Thai cat has received. Description of the breed and character is in the standard.

There is nothing about aggressiveness. However, uncontrolled breeding led to the fact that excessive impulsiveness began to appear in the breed. But the stories about their aggressiveness and lack of control are greatly exaggerated.

Felinologists note that the character of the Thai cat is distinguished by the presence of: devotion and ingenuity of the dog, the courage of the lions and the agility of monkeys. Unbalance is more common in animals with deformed tails. It was believed that the nodules hurt the animal, and it becomes uncontrollable.

Main character traits

  • Cunning and stubbornness - in any situation they try to act with the maximum benefit for them.
  • Fearless - ready to fight with uninvited guests and unfamiliar objects.
  • Not knowing the limits of curiosity - they are interested in everything: from birds outside the window, to boiling kettles and electrical appliances included.
  • Emotionality - the whole kaleidoscope of feelings is visible visually, the breed has a well-developed facial expression.
  • Devotion, sociability and affection for the owner - will meet you at the door.

Relationship to family members

Thai cats choose one owner for themselves. But the rest of the family members are friendly. Purring can not be deliberately left in enclosed spaces. They need to know what each resident does. Pets will closely monitor how dinner is being prepared, laundry is washed or cleaning is carried out. For Thais is an exciting game.

Children, they allow a lot. The breed is well suited for families with children. Adult cats may well nurse with the kids. There are reviews of the owners about how the pets called the owner when they saw that the child had trouble.

Attitude towards other animals

They get along well with other animals, but try to dominate. Kittens easier to take a new neighbor than an adult animal. The owner is important to immediately indicate the pet that he can and what does not.

Alien animals in the house are perceived as enemies encroaching on their possessions. However, on a walk would not mind to get acquainted not only with other cats, but also with dogs. If a new friend is aggressive, they will defend themselves.

Colors of Thai cats

Thai have a light body, and points (protruding parts, which include the ears, muzzle, tail and paws) are darkened. This color is called point (terminal). The color of the fur on the body may be different (color color-point). It has a Thai cat. Colors can be seals (seal point), blue (blue point), tortoise (tortie point), and even chocolate and purple.

Point colors are referred to as acromelanic. The intensity of wool dyeing in such animals depends on the temperature regime. All kittens are born light. Indeed, in the womb constant high temperature. Then the protruding parts of the body begin to receive less heat. Pigment penetration into hairs is activated. At three weeks of age, the points darken.

Why do Thai girls darken and can this be avoided?

All Thai cats, without exception, with age, the contrast between the color of the body and the points becomes more noticeable. This phenomenon is called "color flowering." In some purrs, the process is very active, in others - imperceptibly. Most darker animals with colors seal-point and blue-point. Their show career is shorter than that of other members of the breed.

There are several reasons that accelerate the darkening of the fur:

  • excess in the diet of iodine, copper, calcium, vitamin B,
  • content in a cold room (it is enough for a kitten to run out for a short while in the cold so that its fur will irrevocably darken)
  • hereditary features
  • age (the older the pet, the darker the coat is)
  • pregnancy and other conditions associated with changes in the hormonal background.

Note that after injury, the wool grows a dark color. After all, this part of the body is always colder. After molting, the color should be aligned. But this is not always the case. For the same reason, the Thais do not shear or pull out wool from them.

Ear care

Weekly you need to do inspection of the ears. Clean them with cotton buds using special liquids. Sulfur and dirt are removed. The length of the hair on the ears can be adjusted or left in its natural state.

The eyes of the Thais - a sore spot and an indicator of well-being. In a healthy animal, they should be clean, without purulent discharge. Films in the inner corner, coming to the iris (third eyelid), swelling and pus - an alarm bell and a reason to visit the vet.

Claw care

For exhibitors trimming claws is a must-have procedure. To do this, use your fingers to press the pad of the cat's foot, and when the claws appear from the skin case, cut off their sharp ends with a guillotine. It is important not to touch the living part of the claw - the pulp, in which there are blood vessels and nerve endings. It differs in color.

If you decide to cut the claws only to keep furniture and textiles without damage, note that the cat can quickly sharpen their weapons. Without claws, she will not be able to do many things familiar to her. The animal will not climb the window sill, will not jump out on the cabinet. This may adversely affect his character. Better teach your pet to play without claws and buy him a claw stick. And the places that the purr does not need to sharpen their claws, process with citrus essential oils. Cats do not like them.

How often to bathe?

Thais do not like water procedures, but if you teach them to them, they will endure. Bathe purring before the show or when heavily contaminated wool. Water temperature should be 38–40 ° C. Bathing exhibition animals organize no later than 24 hours before the exhibition. Wool should have time to recover. They dry the fur coat in the air, setting the purr closer to the heater. Hair dryer is better not to use.

How to organize feeding?

Some owners of Thais believe that independently preparing food, it is impossible to take into account the metabolism of a particular animal, its physiological characteristics, age. Others do not feed on dry food, because animals darken from some ready-made rations. Everyone chooses what is more convenient for him. What can not be done, so it is to mix dry and natural food.

Diet of adult cats

Feed the animals need in the same place. Do this before you start eating. Do not accustom the cat to beg for treats and do not give her food from the table. Otherwise, it will become fastidious to food.

The basis of the diet is protein food. However, you can not give your pet only meat. Such a menu can lead to diseases of the genitourinary system. From offal very moderately give liver and seafood. They "darken" the pet's fur. Fish give no more than 1-2 times a week. The menu includes cereals, fruits, vegetables, dairy products, egg yolks.

When choosing dry food, it is important to choose a diet suitable for Thais. Vitamin and mineral composition of the feed is important for this breed. The excess of individual elements adversely affects the color purrs. However, their lack leads to premature aging of all systems.

Kittens diet

The smaller the kitten, the more often it needs to be fed. Up to 4 months of age, it is fed 4–5 times. Babies first give gruel for baby food. At 5–6 weeks, include in the ration scraped lean meat (veal, chicken), by-products of scalded with boiling water (heart, little liver). At the age of 7-8 weeks add chopped vegetables and fruits.

Domestic cats need fresh grass. If they do not go out, you need to sow grass at home. Green sod is needed during active molting. Eating grass, cats get rid of wool in the stomach, which they swallow while caring for their fur.

Features of education

Recent studies show that the nature of a cat's behavior depends largely on its genetic predisposition. If you want to know how your kitten will grow, look at his parents. But there are moments that are corrected by education. Intensive training begins with the 2nd week of life. By the 7th week, it subsides, but can last up to 6 months.

The domestic cat needs to be trained to the tray, to the scratching post and to teach some manners. The first teacher of the baby becomes his mother. It is she who instills him cleanliness and accuracy. A breeder can help her in this. When a kitten enters a new house from a good cattery, he is accustomed to the tray. Starting from 3 weeks of age, the kitten can go to the toilet in a designated place.

It is important as soon as possible to do the socialization of the baby. He must see other animals beside him. So he learns to calmly respond to fellow living in the same house with him.

Health, propensity to diseases

Thai cats are strong and healthy animals. However, the list of genetic diseases to which they are located is quite impressive. This does not mean that every pet has a risk of becoming ill. Responsible breeders exclude from the breeding line, having problems with genetics.

Most often, Thai cats have such diseases as:

  • liver amyloidosis,
  • cardiomyopathy, heart defects,
  • malignant tumors of the breast (the risk is reduced when sterilizing kittens),
  • dental diseases
  • psychological alopecia (hair loss due to excessive care),
  • allergic bronchitis and asthma,
  • hydrocephalus,
  • hip dysplasia,
  • diabetes mellitus (in cats with overweight).

Vaccination features

Even if the cat does not go beyond the threshold of the house, it needs vaccinations. Infection can be brought on clothes, shoes. Only vaccinations can protect against harmful microorganisms.

The first vaccinations give kittens at least 8 weeks old. If the mother has been vaccinated, the kittens are immunized starting at 12 weeks of age. This is followed by revaccination (re-vaccination). Next year the cat is vaccinated in the same period. Revaccination is not needed.

During the change of teeth (4-7 months), it is better to refrain from vaccinations. Care should be taken to vaccinate pregnant cats. They should not be given a live vaccine. In any case, before vaccination, you need a medical examination. Only healthy animals can be vaccinated. And 10 days before de-worming is needed.

Choosing a kitten

If you decide to have a Thai cat, first meet the parents of the kitten. Choose animals from reputable nurseries. Do not be lazy to study the reviews and take time to visit. Pay attention to the condition of the parents of kittens, the conditions of their detention.

Think about who you want to have: a cat or a cat. Oriental beauties start puberty early. Already at the age of 6 or even 4 months they can show their readiness for reproduction in a loud voice. Adult full-grown cats tend to mark territory.

The kitten itself must be playful, active, inquisitive. A healthy baby has clean eyes, no discharge, no dirt in the ears, and the hair looks well-groomed. A good sign, if the kitten shows signs of attention to you: purrs, he rubs his legs, looks into his eyes and turns his ears in your direction.

If you can safely take the baby in your arms, and he gladly sits on your lap - this is a socialized kitten. He was inculcated the right attitude to man. And it is likely that he will continue to behave in an appropriate manner.

Description of Thai breed

To date, the Thai cat has an exterior similar to the appearance of the 18th century Siamese. This is a sturdy, well-built cat with neat features and an excellent "sporty" physique.

The body of the Thai cat is proportional, not long, muscular, has an average size. Eastern Murka boasts strong legs with elegant round legs. The tail is not too long, well developed, rounded to the tip.

The head is rounded, small rounded ears perfectly complement the elegant features. A distinctive "highlight" of the Thai cat's appearance are slightly slanting almond-shaped eyes. There is a legend that these cats received the blue color of their eyes as a gift from the gods for their endless devotion.

The coat of the Thais is silky, dense, without undercoat. Special attention in the breed standard is given to color - color-point. According to tradition, dark-colored limbs, a tail, as well as “darkened” ears and a muzzle are attached to the light body.

Depending on the color options, cats of the Thai breed are divided into varieties:

  • Force point. Color in cream tones, brown points.
  • Blue point The basic tones are cold, bluish. Markings are gray.
  • Lilac-point. The colors are purple and pinkish.
  • Tortie Point Bright red colors.
  • Faun. White background with gray (or blue) markings.
  • Red Point. The original combination of red markings on a white torso.
  • Tabby. Graceful points on which there are "stripes".
  • Cream color. Light background in combination with cream stains.
  • Сhocolate-point. Ivory is supplemented with chocolate paws and a tail.

Differences between Thai and Siamese cats

The color of two related breeds - Thai and Siamese - leads to the fact that these cats are often confused. In fact, these Murks are completely different, both externally and "soul."

Siamese cats have a more graceful physique. Their torso is slightly elongated, and paws are extremely slim and elegant. Thai, on the other hand, are more stocky. The legs are proportionate, and the body is muscular. If you do not take into account the similar color, then these are two very different cats. Thais have the good looks of a little kitten - they are more roundish. Siams are more like an “adult” animal, moreover, it is slightly keen on diets - they are extremely slim and graceful.

The differences are also present in the shape of the head: in the Siamese it is wedge-shaped with a pointed muzzle. Thai cats are distinguished by a "round" head, as well as small ears. Siamese ears are large, pointed. The same applies to the cut eyes.

Cohabitation with the eastern Murka

Living next to a Thai cat is not difficult. These pets respect the rules in the house, observe the places of feeding and rest. Inheriting past a tray will not allow its exquisite origin and high intelligence to hide. This clever option will leave the scattered filler option to less intelligent animals.

The weakness of the Thai cat - jumping. No more exciting activities than to conquer cabinets and shelves. Rescuing things standing on the dais, the cat fully trusts the owner. This is because he, stupid, decided to set flower pots wherever he could climb with pleasure.

What distinguishes a Thai cat from others is masterly possession of limbs. The cat is able to raise and throw objects with its front paws, and also to eat them as if with hands.

Thai cats are very attached to man. In communication with him, they find the meaning of their life, and in the long absence of the owner they fall into a real depression. Кошек этой породы стоит заводить людям, которые без труда смогут ежедневно выделять время для общения с питомцем. Только в таком режиме мурка будет чувствовать себя уютно и радовать хозяев хорошим настроением.

There is an opinion that Thai cats are extremely aggressive. This is partly true. But only in the case when the animal has “mixed blood”, if one of the parents was not purebred. Street education rewards cats not only with faith in themselves, but also with an evil temper, which they successfully convey to their kittens. Purebred Thais did not pass the test of roving life, so their temperament is soft, fluffy and good-natured.

Care for Thai cat

Thai cats are not picky. They do not need special care and get along well in any home. When buying a kitten, you should acquire all the necessary devices for a comfortable life of the pet.

Grooming takes a minimum of effort. It is enough to “wipe” the cat once a week with wet hands in order to remove loose wool. Home Thai people do not need bathing. They are rather clean and suggest beauty on their own. An exception may be a young individual, who has managed to get dirty in the course of research at home.

In the care of the claws will help kogtetochka. It is desirable that it is spacious and high, because secretly love to climb, and this helps to grind off not only the front claws, but also scratches on their hind legs.

Teeth, ears - all like other cats. Regular cleaning, occasionally a handful of dry food and periodic check-ups at the vet will help keep the pet healthy. It is also important to carry out the fight against parasites in time, and it is better to prevent their occurrence.

When keeping a Thai cat, you must consider her love of research. She will check every corner of the house. Windows will not be an exception, so you need to take care of the safety of fluffy dodgers by buying mosquito nets.

Thai cat diet

The room predator certainly needs a special diet. It is necessary to take care of the protein component in the menu of the Thai cat. Meat and meat products should occupy at least half a bowl. Products of animal origin must be thermally processed.

For Thai cats, liver is a highly undesirable product. It causes a change in color, particularly darkening of the light areas of the coat. This fact is important for participants of cat shows, because the "wrong" fur coat will serve as a stain on the reputation of the show animal.

A good treat for a Thai cat is considered to be low-fat cottage cheese, dairy products. But milk is better not to feed the cat.

In the diet of the Eastern Murka must be cereals and vegetables. If the cat shows character, refusing plant foods, you should mix porridge with meat. And to lull the pet's vigilance, mix the ingredients with a blender.

In addition to the delicious food, the cat needs fresh water. This is especially true for animals that eat dry food.

Thai cat is a great companion for people who love purring pets. This is a wonderful friend and intelligent assistant in all household chores. If you need an active animal, feel free to start a Thai. With him simply can not get bored.

The origin of the breed

Perhaps, none of the cat breeds is surrounded by such an abundance of legends as Thai. Some legends, for example, state that:

  • the blue eyes of these beautiful animals were bestowed by the Buddha himself for the faithful protection of the monasteries,
  • Thai cats helped priests to pay homage to the gods, at the same time exterminating rodents that caused irreparable damage to books and manuscripts,
  • Siamese princesses, going to bathe, were stringing precious rings on the curved tails of their pets.

It is interesting! To this day in Thailand there is a belief that the cat and the little monkey lemur, living in the house, protect it from the spell of evil spirits and attract well-being.

At home, Thai cats have always been very expensive: only crowned persons and their approximations could afford them.. It was believed that after the death of the owner of the cat accompanied his soul to the abode of the dead. The animals that participated in the burial ritual, from the royal chambers, went to the temple, where they lived in luxury: delicious food served on golden dishes, and they slept on pillows of exquisite fabrics. People believed that cats, having the goodwill of heaven, would be able to intercede before the gods for the soul of the deceased.

The first images of these mystical animals belong to the XIV century: the elegant miniatures from the manuscript book “The Book of Cat Poems”, a rarity of the National Library of Bangkok, make it possible to see how these “shining diamonds” (as they say signatures under the drawings) of old Siami type looked like. Sacred cats jealously guarded, their export outside of Siam (now Thailand) was banned.

Therefore, they came to Europe only in the 19th century, when the local governor presented the British Consul Owen Gould two different sex sex kittens as a sign of special location. The descendants of this pair, participants of the first exhibition of cats in the London Crystal Palace (1885), delighted visitors with a bottomless sapphire look, a satin fur coat of the most delicate shade of baked milk with charming chocolate points on the face, limbs and tail.

An amateur and animal connoisseur, enthusiast Harrison Ware, who laid the foundations of felinology, in 1892 set forth the first official standard of the Thai (royal Siamese) cat. Describing the representatives of the breed, Ware divided them into two types: one - with a wide muzzle and a dense build, the second - with more refined, elongated body outlines and a wedge-shaped head.

The British liked animals with a light constitution more. Therefore, the result of the planned breeding and breeding of representatives of this pool was the appearance of the breed line of modern Siamese cats. German and American breeders, who did not share these tastes, conducted tribal work aimed at preserving the original type with more natural proportions. So there was a Thai breed. Only in 1990 did it receive official status and its own standard adopted by the WCF system.

Breed standards

  • Head roundish, drop-shaped (in the American version of the standard, the designation “apple head” is “apple-headed”), with a soft silhouette, should not look angular or flat in any angle.
  • Muzzle medium length, with slightly rounded outlines, convex profile line, strong chin, cheeks well pronounced in adult cats. A clearly marked transition from the forehead to the nose should be at eye level, with no stop allowed. Spout straight, medium length.
  • Relatively widely spaced and slightly apart ears average size, their tips are rounded. The line drawn to the nose through the tips of the ears should form a right triangle.
  • Eyes in the form of apricot stone (with almond-shaped top line and rounded - bottom), the gradations of the color of the iris - from bright azure to deep sapphire-blue. Set and size are average.
  • Neck strong, rather medium length, with cats it is preferable - short.
  • Body dense, knocked down, with a rather wide rib cage.
  • Limbs of medium height, muscular, ending in small, rounded legs.
  • Tail wide at the base, tapering evenly towards the tip, of medium length.
  • Wool fine texture with a short, almost adjacent hairline and moderately developed undercoat.

Most common colorseal point: background of pale fawn color with almost black markings on the face and ears, paws and the tip of the tail. Other valid color options:

  • blue point - bright gray, almost blue markings (in individuals with asphalt color of the nose and gray paw pads),
  • chocolate point - almost white main color with marks of the color of milk chocolate,
  • lilac point - on a crystal-white background, points of a light purple hue, a delicate lilac nose mirror and light pink paw pads,
  • red point - bright red markings in combination with a light cream basic color,
  • cream point - white body and creme brulee markings,
  • tortie (tortoise),
  • tabby (patterned colors).

It is interesting! All Thais are born completely white. Flowering (coloring) begins gradually, with the nose lobe and the contours of the ears, the full color appears only when the kittens reach the year and even later.

Rarely encountered, unusual types of points: cinnamon, caramel, silver, eipricot.

Thai cat character

Thai kittens are sociable, playful, funny, cunning and unusually curious creatures. These qualities are preserved in animals and in adulthood. Unlimited curiosity is especially pronounced: there is no such a family affair and undertaking that would pass without the active participation and lively control of the pet. Such a need for constant human contact identifies Thais as companion animals.

Thai gentlemen wonderfully combine good nature and inexhaustible energy, making them tireless leaders of the most active games. They are always ready to “talk” with a person, talking for a long time about the events that occurred in his absence. Voice and intonation, varying depending on the emotions experienced, have a significant range: from gentle purring-cooing to loud throat scream.

Thai girls are more restrained, intelligent, delicate and prefer noisy entertainment full of oriental bliss on a cozy sofa. Being in a playful mood, they are always able to stop on time, not arranging crazy races with disasters. They are gorgeous moms, with a special dedication to caring for kittens. At the same time, their separation from the grown offspring passes easily, with a sense of accomplishment of duty and in full confidence that the little ones are trained in all the necessary wisdom of life. The same maternal feelings, the desire to take care of, educate, patronize and lead are transferred to all new family members, be they other animals or children.

In general, Thais are animals with a strong nervous system and a cheerful character, which allows them to be patient and condescending to change the territory. However, in the marriage period, both ladies and gentlemen show temperament, loudly declaring their desire to find partners.

Lifespan

Thai cats probably know the oriental secret of longevity: the average life expectancy of 16-18 years is considered one of the advantages of the breed. In addition to good heredity, which determines the period during which the pet will give the owner its love and affection, the conditions of maintenance and nutrition, as well as regular vaccination play a role.

Important! Given the extraordinary activity, mobility and curiosity of Thai cats, they should ensure their safe stay in the house:

  • securely fixed heavy interior items,
  • doors and windows tightly closed or fitted with “anti-cat” nets,
  • small piercing and breaking objects, threads, plastic bags, chemicals, medicines, poisonous plants that are out of the animal's reach.

Undesirable and free-range, representing a danger to the health and life of the animal. Observing these simple rules, it is not difficult, according to the assurances of experienced breeders, to extend the life of a Thai cat to 25-28 years. Every second frequenter of thematic Internet forums dedicated to the breed, reports that his pet has crossed the third dozen years.

Care and hygiene

Thais have a short shiny coat that does not have the property of tangling and forming mats; therefore, all care for the hair is limited to regular combing and removal of dead coat with a rubberized brush. This is usually done once a week, and during periods of molting, more often: with a brush it is carried out in the direction of hair growth, without touching the tail, where live hair is easily removed along with dead hairs. After combing the remnants of wool can be collected by sweeping it with a wet glove or hand. The finishing stage is the polishing of the woolen cover with a piece of suede or silk to give a striking shine.

It is undesirable to bathe a Thai cat, they do it only to prepare the animal for the exhibition or in case of heavy pollution. Recommended for the procedure special zooshampun. After washing, the wool is wiped dry and carefully monitored for the lack of drafts in the house.

Important! Normally, Thais have moderate discharge from the eyes, so special care is not required. It is enough to remove tear-tracks, if they appeared, with a paper or linen napkin.

The ears, although small in size, are still open, so, in addition to sulfur, dirt can accumulate in them. For cleaning, it is advisable to use a piece of cloth moistened with a special lotion or vegetable oil, wiping the inner surface of the auricle with it, without affecting the ear canal. The procedure is carried out as needed, but at least once in 2 months. For deep cleaning, special drops intended for animals are recommended.

Care of claws and teeth is also standard: zoo and a brush or a piece of sterile bandage for hygienic cleaning of teeth and prophylactic massage of the gums, regular cutting as the claw grows with a small or medium nail clipper.

Diseases and breed defects

Thai cats naturally have a strong immune system, which, in combination with timely vaccination, serves as protection against the development of many ailments. However, we should not forget about the possible manifestations of the following genetic diseases in pets.

Liver amyloidosis

The consequence of metabolic disorders, when amyloid (proteinaceous compound) is deposited in the liver or pancreas. This leads to degenerative cellular changes, increased levels of liver enzymes, intoxication with the involvement of other organs - the spleen, kidneys, as well as the circulatory and urinary systems. In the forecast of acutely developing amyloidosis - rupture of the liver with massive hemorrhage into the abdominal cavity. Symptoms of the disease:

  • the yellowness of the mucous membranes and skin,
  • alternating diarrhea and constipation
  • pale color of feces,
  • decrease or lack of appetite
  • lethargy, apathy, depression.

Pathology is more common in cats than in cats. Amyloidosis, like any genetically determined disease, is incurable and has no prophylaxis, but, detected in its early stages, is amenable to symptomatic therapy, which allows maintaining a relatively high quality of life of the pet.

Convergent strabismus (strabismus)

A congenital, genetically inherited ophthalmological defect in which the eyes are slanted to the nose. Negative consequences, in addition to disqualification in the ring, strabism does not attract and does not threaten the general health of the animal. Often, congenital strabismus in Thai cats is accompanied by nystagmus - erratic movements of the eyeballs.

Upbringing and training

The appearance in the house of a pet Thai breed - this may not be the best choice for those who appreciate peace, order and comfort. But for people suffering from loneliness, loving and affectionate Thais, like no other animal, can fill life with unforgettable emotions. Beginning from childhood, the education of the Thai cat in certain behavioral framework is not difficult in view of the excellent learning abilities and flexible intelligence inherent in the representatives of this breed.

Constant communication with the animal will make it easy to find mutual understanding with him: sensitive to human emotions and susceptible to intonations, the Thai kitten quickly realizes that a strict and slightly elevated tone means a ban, gently and gently pronounced words - encouragement. A shout and, moreover, a punishment to achieve positive results from the Thais is impossible. And if you send these cats' love of constant pranks and mischief in the right direction, animals in the process of regular classes can be trained to perform not only the main (“sit”, “lie down”, “not”), but also specific commands (for example, “aport” , "Look for"), as well as quite difficult tricks.

What to look for

When buying a pet from breeders, it is important to evaluate the external features of both the kitten and his parents, such as:

  • color (in adult cats) and the quality of the coat, the presence of bald spots and white spots on it,
  • color and set eyes
  • the overall structure and proportions of the body,
  • degree of grooming, fatness and activity.

Important! Regardless of the purpose of acquiring an animal, as a pet or for breeding, you should also ask about possible hereditary and past diseases, injuries, surgery, vaccination and deworming of the selected kitten and his parents, assess the conditions in which they are kept.

With a high degree of probability, exterior defects are passed from parents to offspring, which precludes further participation of animals in breeding and exhibition activities. The origin of the kitten must necessarily be confirmed by properly executed documents, without which the baby-taychik will be considered outbred.

Price Thai cat kitten

The question about the cost of a Thai kitten can not be answered unambiguously The price depends on several factors:

  • gender, age and class of the baby,
  • exhibition achievements of parents
  • the rarity of the future color,
  • the prestige of the graduating nursery.

On average, the cost of purchasing a purebred taychik make up $ 500- $ 700. A kitten without documents will cost less, around $ 300, the parents of which, however, are purebred Thai cats. Совсем недорого, за $50 можно купить котёнка, внешне похожего на тайского, но происхождение которого документально не подтверждается.

Owner reviews

There are many people who sincerely can say that their hearts are forever given to Thai cats. With good reason, breeders and owners of Thais recommend the breed to single people and families with children. That's what the owners say about their charges.

  • It was impossible to resist the sight of the sky-blue eyes and snow-white coat of Thai baby. In the 10 years that have passed since then, the color, of course, has changed, but the soul of an angel, capable of both comforting and cheering, has remained the same!
  • It was difficult to assume that in this Thai miracle, as if created from some soft oval forms, the typhoon energy is concentrated: at any moment it is ready to take off, everywhere it will have time, and there are no insuperable obstacles for it.
  • Surprisingly, during the joint rather turbulent games with children, Thai cats always hide their claws, and if something bad happens, they can persistently call for help from adults.
  • Others of the same intelligent, sociable, affectionate cats, equally capable of sharing with a person both sadness and joy, simply do not exist!

The history of the origin of cats of Thai breed

For the first time Thai cats were mentioned in the fourteenth century.

These cats were kept by noble persons, or they lived in the abode of Buddhist monks.

In European countries, the breed became known only at the end of the nineteenth century. Nowadays, Thai kittens are a rather rare luck. In order to confidently attribute them to the Thai breed, it is necessary to carry out several procedures for establishing the breed, as well as to obtain two certified conclusions from the experts.

This cat combines the incompatible - it is an angel, and imp, and an incredible, gentle creature, and an evil, nibbling fiend of hell, so not everything fits the description of the Thai cat presented on the Web.

The cat loves to destroy everything - it is clear that this is not the most beautiful of the character traits, but she has not yet done serious damage, so it’s just fun to watch her antics.

He does not recognize anyone, only her husband and me. Guests absolutely not happy, immediately leaves.

In the tray went immediately, from the first days. When someone in the house swears, she will surely take the side of the right.

I present some photos of my favorite Thai cat Marusya.

Our Thai cat Monya is an animal harmful and quarrelsome, always dissatisfied with something, but it is easy to fix this by placing a bowl of food in front of him.

He doesn’t like to swim at all, the human company annoys him, most of all he likes to climb somewhere higher and meow from there, watching the hosts.

With the arrival of the guests, Monya immediately disappears into some secluded place. It is possible to lure him out only by using food.

If he doesn’t like something, he may bite or scratch.

In the photo - Alice, and she is a Thai cat. By her character she is curious, playful and very active. Sometimes it may be obsessive caring. If I feel sad, always sit next to me, they will purr loudly and lick my face.

If she is interested in something, she will definitely not pass by.

She constantly wants to be close to the owners. Very loving. He likes to fall asleep in his arms.

He treats children tolerantly, but does not particularly want to contact them. Afraid of strangers and strangers.

He is very talkative, talks not only when he asks for food, but always generally. May conduct a dialogue with you. Thai cat is very active and agile in nature, and caring for her is not at all difficult.

I have a Thai cat. I used to feed her with feeds produced in Russia. Then I learned that not all of them are of very high quality. Now slowly translate it to feed foreign production. Cat still like it.

Health and feeding cats Thai breed

The most important condition in the diet of the Thai cat is high quality food. As soon as the kitten appears in your house, you must immediately decide how you will feed it. This may be a human food, or food that is designed specifically for cats. Mixing these two types of feeding is not necessary.

A newborn kitten can be taught to eat cereals and soups.

Do not give fat meat. Do not feed the cat fish too often, just once every four days. Most preferably sea fish.

It is not necessary to feed the cat milk, it is better to treat her with fermented milk products or unsalted cheese. Evaluate your favorite and yogurt without sugar and additives.

Cat food must be warm.

All cats need fresh grass. If your pet does not leave the apartment, plant specially for it some of the varieties of cereal, for example, wheat. Fresh grass will help clean the cat's intestines and the body as a whole, and will also become a source of vitamins for it.

If the animal eats dry food, sometimes give it cat food. A cat feeding in this way must always have clean drinking water.

When purchasing food, follow its shelf life and overall food quality. Familiarize yourself with the composition shown on the packaging. Poor nutrition can easily lead your pet to obesity, provoking various diseases.

Every cat, like people, has its own food preferences. Watch her when she is still just a kitten and determine what she likes most.

If the cat is sick, it changes its behavior, appearance, appetite may disappear.

If you notice any such changes, immediately contact your veterinarian, otherwise the outcome of this case can be very sad.

The disappearance of appetite and a significant change in weight can signal diseases of the thyroid gland and disruptions in the hormonal system.

If the animal's breathing is disturbed, it becomes difficult and frequent, the cat coughs and sneezes - it may be a disease of the lungs or heart.

Frequent vomiting speaks of poisoning, allergies or diseases of the digestive system.

If a pet has become infected with worms, it will become constipated or diarrhea. Check it for parasites.

If the cat has fleas, it will itch all the time and lick itself. Carefully inspect her skin.

Consult a doctor if the cat has become weak, outwardly it looks painful and sluggish, and its behavior can also become aggressive. Worrying is worth it if the animal has started to lose hair heavily.

Thai cat is subject to the following diseases:

  • breast tumor,
  • hydrocephalus,
  • lungs' cancer,
  • diabetes,
  • heart disease.

Thai cat lives on average from ten to fifteen years. If you look after her perfectly, she will be able to please you for a long time.
