Imagine that a big black dog with a "moody" look, a massive shaggy head and incomprehensible intentions is right at you. Would you be scared? We are talking about the Russian Black Terrier breed. Its impressive size and awesome appearance - just the specifics of the "work". The breed was bred artificially, as a service guard. Therefore, he expresses his aggression only during “work”. The rest of the time - this is a talented, obedient, playful and good-natured dog. Let's take a closer look at it and learn all about the breed.

History reference

As we have said, the breed is bred by artificial selection. Her story dates back to 1949. It was this year that work began on the creation of several new breeds of working dogs according to the government assignment in the kennel of service dogs Krasnaya Zvezda (Moscow). The task was about four rocks. However, two of them were subsequently abandoned, and the black terriers and Moscow watchdogs - the result of the work of breeders, we can see in our time.

The Russian black terrier was originally created as a guard dog, which must perform several functions and cope with the climatic conditions of different localities. Breeders were faced with the task of creating a physically strong, tall, angry dog that is easy to manage. To solve the problem, four most suitable breeds were selected: Giant Schnauzer, Newfoundland, Rottweiler and Airedale. In some modern sources (the book "Domestic breeds of service dogs", St. Petersburg, 1992) it is indicated that 7 breeds participated in the crossing. In addition, those that we indicated for breeding were used: Caucasian Shepherd, German Great Dane and German Shepherd.

The work was long, painstaking and multistage. The ancestor of the breed is a male giant schnauzer Roy. His offspring was with good quality wool and the desired exterior. Puppies obtained from mating with Roy were tested for working qualities. The best were selected for further selection. The first representative of the new breed was obtained in 1954. By this time, the country lost the need for a large number of guard dogs, which were planned to be used for the protection of sensitive objects and prisoners. Therefore, permission was granted to distribute service dogs among amateur dog breeders. The Russian Black Terrier dog was published in 1955 at the 19th Moscow City Dog Show.

Breed characteristic

Black terriers are not similar in nature to the ferocious dogs of other breeds. The fact is that the creators of the breed made a lot of effort so that artificially derived aggression yielded to unconditional control from the person. When Chernysh is not “in the service” - this is a calm, not paying attention to the people around him. He likes to frolic, play with people, run. Absolutely friendly guy who is not going to scare or bite anyone.

A completely different black terrier behaves "at work". As soon as a stranger appears in the protected area, the dog takes an active defensive position. The breed has an amazing ability to assess the situation and make independent decisions. If a stranger was frightened of a dog and left the territory, the dog would not chase him, he would immediately lose interest in the deceased. Persecution is possible only at the command of a person.

If the formidable look of a watchdog did not frighten the stranger, the dog proceeds to attack. The Black Terrier delivers a powerful blow, crushes the offender under him, jumps on his chest and holds him until the owner arrives. The teeth go into motion only when necessary, but it is better not to bring this up. The dog has a powerful otkus with a margin.

In a completely different way, the dog behaves with the owner and members of his family - this is a gentle, friendly, playful and disciplined dog. He is very smart and talented. Of course, those who are only going to acquire such a large dog with pronounced security and service skills should be aware that the dog needs training and proper upbringing. It is worth thinking carefully before deciding on such a responsible act.

Care and maintenance

The peculiarity of the breed is that it was bred for outdoor use in extreme weather conditions. Therefore, black terriers feel best in a spacious street cage or in the yard of a fenced house. The limited space of a city apartment is not for them.

Dogs with long and thick hair, such as this breed, require special care. In addition, black terriers have a feature - they have no shedding. Dead wool falls into a variety of mats that need to be combed. These dogs need to be combed once or twice a week. For this process, you will need: trimming comb, comb with long teeth, pukhoderka and koltunorez.

Important! Buy koltunorez in the form of grabelek. Such a device with wavy blunt ends is most convenient to cut large mats into small ones.

Small tricks comb comb with long teeth. Then they use a punkherka. Trimming comb is needed only at the end of the process. Comb the dogs before bathing. Bathe as necessary with shampoo no more than once a month. This is best done in the bath. Every day you need to wash only the paws and stomach.

Grooming (haircut) - another mandatory procedure for this breed. Shear black terriers according to the established standard at least once in 3 months. The first hygienic haircut is done in 4-5 months.

The problem areas of the breed are mustache and beard. After each meal, they need to be washed, dried and combed. After watering - blot dry. You can not leave decorating hair wet - it can hit a fungal infection. So that the beads do not appear mats, it is washed with shampoo once a week, dried and combed.

Weekly attention require ears dogs. To the ear canal was free to access air, it is necessary to cut out all wool from it. Make it a little blunt scissors. With the same frequency inspect the eyes and place under the collar. The dog's nails are clipped so that they do not outgrow or break.

Russian black terrier health

Russian black terrier is a breed with good health. However, its artificial elimination left its mark - in the genes the problems of the ancestral rocks remained. One of these common problems is dysplasia of the elbow and hip joints. This disease is a scourge of large breed dogs. Progressive retinal atrophy and otitis media did not bypass the black giants.

If the dog is not well cared for, a fungus can develop in the wool of the beard and mustache, which in advanced cases passes onto the skin of the muzzle. Fungal skin lesions cause severe itching, the dog constantly itches, completely erasing its “mustache” and “beard”. The fungus is treated with Nystatin ointment.

Hanging "bangs" can lead to conjunctivitis of the eyes. It is necessary to monitor its cleanliness and clean up if necessary, tying tails. It is impossible to cut the bangs completely - it protects the dog's eyes from small specks, dust and twigs.

To maximize insure against buying a sick animal, study the puppy's pedigree well. Ask the seller for the results of the genetic tests of the dog and its parents.

Upbringing and training

Regardless of what purpose a black terrier dog is used: for the protection of the territory, as a bodyguard or as a show-class dog, it must be subjected to serious training. An animal must have mastered the skills of obedience to the master, the ability to wait in one place and the command "near" to automatism. A huge strong dog who has not developed these skills will easily “carry off” and overthrow even the strongest person.

"Stalin's dog", sometimes called black terriers, is very clever and disciplined. It is easy to train them, but an experienced canine should do this. Retraining the “black giants” is not a rewarding, and sometimes useless. Breed is difficult to retrain, so it is better not to experiment, but to entrust this business to professionals.

It is necessary to start bringing up Chernysh from a very early age - an animal needs constant contact with a person during the period of growing up. Although captive content is preferable for this breed, at an early age a dog can be taken into the house to devote all his free time to education. This is the only way to get a faithful friend from this dog.

Tips for black terrier training:

  1. Always push your puppy to complete the command. So you will be able to raise a dog that will be in the matured condition to obey you unconditionally in any situation.
  2. Often praise and encourage your favorite treats, if the dog has fulfilled your order.
  3. Never shout or raise your voice. The dog hears several times better than you. If she pretends not to hear - these are mistakes of your dressure.
  4. Teams need to be given in a calm but firm voice. Avoid anger and irritation.
  5. It is unacceptable to tear anger on chernyshe - dogs have a very good memory. Any punishment must be immediate and deserved. This applies to both physical and moral punishment.
  6. Never punish a dog by calling it with the command "to me". This command should be associated with the animal with something pleasant: affection, delicacy.
  7. Train constantly. If the dog sniffs something (not food) - give the command: "Scent". When the dog carries an object in your direction, give the command: “Aport”. When you leave for a long time - “I am at work”. Not for long - "I will come soon." If the dog is considering a frog - give the command: "Watch."

The most important advice: only patience and love will be able to bring up a big and loyal friend from a little black bear.

How to feed a black terrier

Feed the "giant" - not an easy task! It is impossible to raise a big and strong dog without an energetically complete, fully balanced in composition, nutritional content of minerals and vitamins. Breeders and veterinarians advise feeding dogs of this breed with industrial feeds of the “super premium” and “holistic” classes with a protein content of at least 30%.

Recommended feed brands:

The daily rate for an adult dog weighing from 50 kg with an active lifestyle (physical activity 1 hour or more) - 560 grams.

If we talk about feeding with natural food, then the calculation of the daily rate of food is made according to the formula - 3% of the dog's weight. These 3% should include:

  • 50% raw frozen meat (turkey, lamb, beef),
  • 20% raw frozen offal,
  • 20% of vegetables and fruits (fresh, boiled),
  • 10% of the bones.

One feeding per week makes milk:

Fish can be given once a week, replacing it with a whole portion or divide this amount by 2-3 days. Kefir - a mug once every 2-3 days.

Important! Vitamin-mineral complexes should be given to dogs on natural nutrition.

Pure black color without gray hair and spots.

Black Terrier Owner Reviews

Catherine: “Most of all I like in my Kid (for a long time I could not find a suitable name for my giant). People often ask me about it in a taxi when I travel with a dog. Taxi drivers do not believe that there are such dogs. My kid lives in the apartment. He has enough space, we are not very. We walk a lot in the park and in the country. Walks and active games are necessary for this dog, as air. He gets along well with my daughter. She lives in friendly ways with domestic cats, therefore she is absolutely indifferent to street cats. He eats, of course, not a little, but joint purchases of feed help me out. I feed dry fodder ".

Rodion: “The main problem with the owners of black terriers is grooming. If you do not like combing the dog, better not start. Constantly need to monitor the purity of the muzzle. After each meal we go to the bathroom to wash the beard and mustache. You need to comb it out for a long time and carefully with special devices so that mats do not form. ”

During the war years, a lot of service dogs died, and the country during this time was filled with "traitors of the motherland", prisoners of war and other prisoners who had to be guarded.

In order to increase the number of guard dogs, in 1949 the Ministry of Defense issued an order, which obliged to restore the number of such dogs, as well as to bring out a new breed. It should be a breed of strong and hardy dogs that could serve in any climate conditions, immaculately obeying the host guide.

They should be easy to train and be unpretentious in food and content. This task was assigned to the Krasnaya Zvezda nursery near Moscow.

The giant schnauzer was taken as the main breed, to which 17 more breeds were subsequently attached, which at that time were available from the nursery. In a black terrier, the blood of a diver, rottweiler, Great Dane, East European Shepherd Dog, Saint Bernard, Caucasian Shepherd Dog, Airedale Terrier and other breeds flows.

At the All-Union Exhibition in 1957, the first 43 copies were presented. The breed group met all the requirements, but the dogs very attached to one owner, that was not suitable for service in special agencies.

It was decided to continue the selection, and give the resulting representatives for breeding in other nurseries of the country and individuals.

In the 70s, the black terrier has already participated in international exhibitions, and in 1981 the breed group was bred in a separate breed. Dogs received world recognition and approval from FSI in 1984. In the same year, the first standard was adopted, which was amended in 2010.

Stalin's dog is popular not only in Russia, but also far beyond its borders, and the low price makes the breed available to a wide range of fans of large dogs.

Breed destination

First of all, during breeding, emphasis was placed on protective qualities. The dogs were intended to work in the special services and the protection of territories. Their dense wool allows their use in different climatic conditions: from cold north to hot south. Blacks are doing a great job with this task. serve as watchmen, protectors and bodyguards.

Also, the breed can often be found at international exhibitions as winners.
BUT good nature and devotion make the black terrier a big favorite of the family and a companion dog.

Character breed Russian black terrier

These are strong and hardy dogs with a balanced character and excellent flair. They can play or sleep at ease, but as soon as they feel in danger, an ardent defender wakes up instantly. After the threat has passed, the dogs, as if nothing had happened, return to their abandoned cases.

Black terriers are very attached to one of the family members and difficult to tolerate separation. For them undesirable change of owners. They are obedient, intelligent, have a good memory and are easy to train. Blacks are able to quickly make a deliberate decision, but at the same time they are easy to manage.

Them not anger and aggression, if they are not developed in a pet purposefully. Also, these qualities may develop during the wrong learning process. Black terriers quietly get along with other animals and tolerate any conditions of detention.

These physically developed and hardy Dogs can become a good companion during cycling and will gladly support the company while relaxing outside the city, especially if there is an opportunity to swim.

And thanks to the noble appearance and restrained manners they often become winners of exhibitions, both regional and international.

How to choose a puppy

Best to take a puppy in the nursery or at serious breeders, where you can see both parents at once. You can pick up a pet in two months. Ask to provide documents for adult dogs, as well as their letters and awards, especially if you are planning a future visit to exhibitions with your pet.

As a rule, Russian black terrier puppies, which are more suitable for this, that is, a show class, are considered the most expensive in the litter. Buying a dog in such places, you will get qualified support in many issues for a long time.

An important role is played by the conditions of dogs. Cleanliness and dryness of the room are the main factor in the proper maintenance of pets. Little kids must be strong, plump and active, with clean eyes and a wet nose. There may be exceptions if the puppies have recently woken up. Wool should give a healthy shine and be without bald spots.

When picking up a baby, you should be given a puppy card and vet passport with the date of vaccination and a note about anthelmintic events. Do not forget to ask what the puppies were fed with, since in the next few days it is undesirable to drastically change the dog's usual diet, and do it gradually.

Possible health problems

One of the requirements for the breed was its health. Therefore, breeders have made sure that black terriers are strong, have strong immunity and are not susceptible to hereditary diseases.

But, like all big dogs, blacks sometimes suffer from hip dysplasia and elbow joints. Diseases of the ears (due to the lack of air) and eyes (due to the long eyebrows) can also occur.

Training of black Russian terriers

As a rule, training and training of such dogs is quite easy. Have them good memory and ingenuity. True, the Erdel Terrier’s blood sometimes makes itself felt, and the dogs begin to show mild stubbornness and independence. Most likely, they do it to test the owner for durability and stability. This feature is easy to eliminate if you become a real authority for your pet.

Advantages and disadvantages

Russian black terrier, or Stalin's dog, - unpretentious, balanced breed which is endowed with an excellent memory, quick and thoughtful reaction and the ability to make adequate decisions according to the situation.

Blackies are hardy, fearless, have a solid character and a stable nervous system. They are happy to play with children, but at this time they do not forget to sensitively protect the owners and their territory. It is their own, as they may be big owners.

Devoutly defending their owners, black terriers will become true and reliable friends for a long time.
Such a dog in inexperienced hands can become quite aggressive. To this did not happen, the pet needs to spend a lot of time for education.

Here it should be said that blacks are smart and obedient, but do not forget about their direct relatives, terriers, who give the breed some stubbornness. If you surround your pet with love and care, you can get a devotee companion and self-confident defender.

Stanislav:

I have been engaged in breed for 18 years. I can say that they need to communicate with the owner and free walks. For them it is contraindicated for a long time to be in a closed aviary. Also need timely training, which they are very easy. Together with such dogs our children grew up and now they are happy to play with their grandchildren. They chase the neighboring cats, and even allow their own to sleep on themselves.
Absolutely nothing bad to say I can not.

Ruslan and Anna:

Chernyshi is the kindest and most understanding breed. For four years there was not a single complaint to them. Excellent friends and guards. We have two such dogs: a dog and a bitch. Get along well with each other and with our cat, which we started when the dogs were already adults. They go with children to the store without a leash and are faithfully waiting for them, not going anywhere. No aggression or anger has ever been observed.

Head and muzzle

RCHK has a moderately wide, long head with rounded cheekbones and a flat forehead. Stop not sharp, well expressed. The muzzle is massive, slightly pointed, but the mustache and beard give a somewhat square shape. Lips fleshy, thick, bryley not form. Ears of a triangular shape, small, set high, drooping. Eyes set obliquely, dark-colored, oval-shaped, relatively small relative to the muzzle. Full teeth. Correct bite.

Body type

Build strong, athletic. The neck is massive, dry. To the line of the back is located at an angle of 40-45 °. Chest deep, with slightly convex ribs. Withers prominently above the straight line of the back. The loin is slightly convex. The croup falls to a high, thick tail. Belly tucked up. Limbs straight. Paws are large, arched, rounded. The skin adheres to the body well, elastic, evenly pigmented.

The tail can be stopped only if the dog does not participate in exhibitions in countries where such a change in appearance is prohibited.

Wool and colors

The coat is formed by a stiff and thick guard hair with kinks and a thick undercoat. The hair decorating forms a mustache, beard and long eyebrows. The color is black, the standard is allowed black with a light gray (no more than 1/3 of the whole surface).

Character and psychological portrait

The purpose of the breed is to get a rather large, strong, brave dog, with a strong protective instinct, controlled in any situation, universal in work, easily adapting to different climatic conditions. It is said that black terriers are endowed with all the above qualities.

Blackies are balanced, self-confident, well-managed, reliable and friendly. If necessary, they will immediately take a defensive position, but will also quickly and easily calm down when the danger has passed. They are contact and smart, capable of analyzing the situation and making their own decisions.

Character and psyche finally formed late. Only by the age of 2.5, Chernysh fully feels himself as a person, he is aware of strength and adequately controls it. Until that time, it is very important to pay special attention to the education, socialization, training, development of the necessary qualities and skills.

Despite their considerable size and strict nature, RChK can be real friends, they are loyal and reliable. Responsiveness and attention are shown to all family members, friends of the owner and the most different animals. Carefully and patronizingly treat children.

Training and Exercise

The Russian Black Terrier is a smart and highly trained dog that is fully capable of learning a wide variety of courses. Of course, this does not mean that one dog can be a guard, a lifeguard, and a guide. Talent to a specific case also matters.

Chernysh considers himself to be quite independent, therefore, in training, a firm hand, constancy of requirements and certain experience (or the help of a competent instructor) are important.

Physical exercise

To maintain a good shape, a Russian terrier needs regular long-term walking, which needs to be diversified with games and training. It is desirable to walk twice a day, the first output can be short, but the second should be complete.

With 3 month old puppies walk no more than 15 minutes. Gradually, the load is increased, by 10 months the walk should take about an hour, and from 1.5 years to 2 hours. You can swim at any age, sports are shown to dogs older than a year. The main thing in physical exertion is to avoid overwork.

Maintenance and care

Representatives of the breed can equally well live in an open-air cage with the possibility of free-range walking on a plot (the main thing is not on a leash) and in apartments (provided that they have a good range). Many owners, note that despite the size, the dog in the house almost does not cause trouble. In the apartment blacks behave calmly and unobtrusively, and there is practically no specific smell with good care.

Care highlights

Caring for Chernysh can not be called too complicated, but it should be regular, it will take some time and material costs.

  • The auditory canal is completely covered with wool, which is recommended little by little, but often pinched. Excess sulfur is removed using special lotions. It is undesirable to use cotton swabs for cleaning, since they can be tamped with gray even deeper.
  • Eyes regularly inspect and rub.
  • Daily washing requires a beard and mustache, especially when feeding naturalka. If you do not keep them clean, you can allow the development of fungus.
  • Claws must be ground independently, if this does not happen (for a number of reasons), the responsibility for maintaining the required length lies with the owner. Between the paw pads from time to time sheaves of wool are cut out.
  • Care for RFCs is an entire science, especially when it comes to show dogs.

Black Terrier Grooming

The basis of grooming is combing. The puppy's fur doesn’t need frequent brushing and gives you little trouble, but the procedure will teach the child to systematically combing in adulthood, which will be needed daily.

There is no definite answer how often you need to wash the black Russian black terrier. Approximate landmark - once a month. Cosmetics can only use quality: shampoos that improve the structure of the hair, and conditioners, giving texture and shine. After water procedures, the dog must be very carefully dried with a hairdryer and combed.

For the full care of wool will need a whole set of tools:

  • Pukhoderka,
  • Rake,
  • Koltunorez,
  • Comb with straight teeth and massages,
  • Claw cutter,
  • Hair dryer

To make the dog look even more neat and well-groomed, the wool is periodically sheared. The first time a puppy is introduced to scissors and a machine at the age of 4-5 months, then the interval between the haircuts depends on the goal, the weather and the need to participate in exhibitions.

Diet

You can feed blacks with either natural food or dry ready-made feeds. The selected diet should meet the age, physiological state and completely fill all the needs of the body, because health and appearance depend on the quality of nutrition.

The basis of natural nutrition should be meat, offal and cereal with some added fruits and vegetables. Sometimes the diet is supplemented with lactic acid products, eggs, fish and bread. The quality of industrial feed: the higher the better. Feed the dog strictly a la carte and on schedule. Always in the free access should be only water.

Health and life expectancy

In general, representatives of the breed have good health and a strong immune system. Various diseases are usually caused by improper maintenance and nutrition of dogs. There are not many diseases that are hereditary in the breed: dysplasia (hip, elbow joints) and progressive retinal atrophy.

Throughout their lives, dogs need routine vaccination, regular deworming and treatment from external parasites, annoying bloodsuckers and carriers of dangerous diseases. Life expectancy is on average 11-12 years.

Puppy selection and price

Potential owners of Russian black terriers, as well as other dogs, can be divided into two groups. Some do not bother to get extra knowledge about the breed, pedigree, and other canine terminology, they are looking for cheaper puppies and do not see the need for documents. Others competently and scrupulously approach not only the choice of the baby, but also the choice of the nursery and parents, which is also an important point.

Think in advance for what purposes you need a dog: for protection and protection, as a companion or to participate in exhibitions and competitions. Even within the same litter, babies have different characters and talents. To find the right dog you need the help of a breeder or breed expert.

Puppies are better to choose in the period from 1.5 to 2 months. In 45 days they receive documents about the origin and already look like adult terriers in miniature. Let not fully, but it is already possible to assess their compliance with the standard, determine the nature and inclinations. Babies will be ready to move to a new home only by three months. A puppy should be mobile and sociable, with no signs of indisposition, with a good appetite and a quiet sleep.

The value of a dog is influenced by many factors, the geography and status of the kennel, the merits of the parents, the class and prospects of the baby. Price puppies pet-class ranges from 20-35 thousand rubles. Prospective kids can cost significantly more.

Russian black terrier. Stalin's dog

This four-shaggy beast with a very impressive appearance is called "Stalin's dog", while the leader of such a dog was not, the breed was born after his death.

However, the loud title was not accidentally assigned to a black terrier. It was Iosif Vissarionovich who was instructed to bring out a new breed of service and guard dogs that would withstand the fierce frosts, be amenable to training and had a frightening appearance, since it was intended to use black terriers for the protection of prisoners.

Experiments on breeding a new breed in the nursery "Red Star" began in the 30s of the XX century, they slowed down the Great Patriotic War. The year 1954 is considered the date of birth of the black terrier, however, the breed was brought to a single standard only 40 years later.
More than 10 breeds are mixed in the black terrier, the main of which are the giant schnauzer, the Rottweiler, the Airedale Terrier, the Caucasian Shepherd Dog and the Newfoundland. This impressive black guard has a good heart, with proper education, the dog is obedient and friendly to the person.

Russian hunting sighthound. Miss elegance

The Russian hunting sighthound is another national pride of our country. Порода получила распространение во времена Ивана Грозного, благодаря тому, что русский самодержец после завоевания Казани переселил на Ярославские и Костромские земли представителей татарской знати, любивших «ходить на зверя» с собаками.

Following them, the Russian landlords became interested in hunting with greyhounds, they decided to create a breed that would combine sprint speeds, a calm temper, friendliness towards man, and endurance. To do this, the blood of the oriental saluki was mixed with a variety of huskies - loshie dogs. From their ancestors Russian greyhound received strength and courage, and at the same time lightness and grace.
Prosperous landowners kept whole packs of these dogs, which were valued for a keen eye, endurance and the ability to develop high speeds.

Caucasian Shepherd Dog. Hardy intellectual

The Caucasian Shepherd is the oldest breed of working dogs and one of the largest in the world. The Tibetan mash is considered the immediate ancestor of the “Caucasian”. The breed received its name thanks to the territory where it was finally formed. She came to the Caucasus from Central Asia along with the tribes of ancient shepherds.

The history of the breed originates from the time when a man tamed the sheep and began to need the protection of his herd from attacks by predators or attempts to capture by foreign tribes. This role could be entrusted only to the best dogs that had courage, had a keen eye and a sharp scent, were able to go without food for a long time, endure pain and were committed to their master. These skills and qualities were fixed at the genetic level. So the Caucasian Shepherd Dog was born, the temperament of which was influenced by the clashes of various tribes. In “Caucasians”, aggressiveness towards strangers and jealous attitude towards its owner and his property are combined.
The courage of the Caucasian Shepherd Dog was also appreciated by the Russian military leaders who, after conquering the Caucasus, enrolled four-legged giants in the army to help the guard.
These dogs have gained popularity far beyond the borders of Russia and Asia.

Russian toy terrier. Brave heart

In the veins of this cute toy dog, the blood of his brave ancestor-rat-catcher flows.
Playful and cheerful breed belongs to the medieval clan of terriers, bred by English breeders. Several centuries ago, terriers hunted badgers, rats and foxes. At the same time, large dogs were used for hunting, and their smaller relatives were allowed to be lap dogs, companion of the owners.

The closest relative of the Russian toy terrier is the Manchester Terrier, who was brought to our country during the time of Empress Catherine.
During the turbulent 20th century, with its revolutions and wars, the breed in our country practically died out, as the country needed strong and enduring large breed dogs.

After the Great Patriotic War for several decades, Soviet breeders were looking for surviving descendants of purebred terriers. The breed was restored, the standard appeared only in 1998, but the dogs were already noticeably different from their ancestors. Therefore, the breed was given a new name "Russian toy terrier".
You can’t take a pet to the hunt anymore, but it’s impossible to carry a descendant of brave terriers in your purse. Unlike pocket dogs, a toy terrier is full of energy and loves to run and frolic in the street.

East European Shepherd. Our answer to the Germans

In the 20s of the last century, Soviet breeders were tasked to create a dog that can serve at roadblocks in various parts of our vast country, from Kazakhstan to Kamchatka.

The progenitor of this breed was a German shepherd, and blood of local huskies, dog-like and other breeds was added to it. The East European Shepherd Dog has become larger and more massive than its German counterpart, it has a more balanced psyche and is able to work in any climatic zones.

Such qualities have made the “Oriental” the number one breed in various services of the Soviet Union. These shepherds guarded the border, worked in the police and the NKVD, searched for prohibited substances, guarded regime objects and used as guides for the blind. They were needed wherever they needed grip, courage, discipline, sharp scent, good hearing and dedication to the owner.

Representatives of this breed most often became heroes of Soviet films, it suffices to recall only the faithful Mukhtar and the fearless Scarlet.
After the collapse of the Soviet Union, German shepherd dogs came into vogue in our country, but enthusiasts did everything possible to preserve the “Oriental”, thanks to which the breed still exists.

Moscow Watchdog. Ferocious silent

The Moscow Watchdog, as the name implies, is an excellent guard, it was for this purpose that one of the youngest breeds in modern cynology was bred. After the Great Patriotic War, there were practically no large service dogs left in our country. Bringing thoroughbred specimens from abroad was very difficult. Therefore, the specialists were tasked to cross different breeds that were represented in the kennel "Red Star" in order to get a hardy and fierce looking dog.
The ancestors of the Moscow watchdog were the Caucasian Shepherd, the St. Bernard and the Russian Pinto Hound. Muscovites got high intelligence, silence and color from St. Bernards, menacing appearance and ferocity from Caucasian Shepherd Dog, endurance and unpretentiousness from a hound.
The Moscow Watchdog possesses an innate instinct for the protection of both the owner and the dwelling, while the fierce guard is very gentle to family members.

Russian Hound. Swift "tyavkusha"

Russian hound - one of the oldest breeds of hunting dogs, bred in our country. Hounds began to walk on a fox, a hare and a wild boar as early as the 12th century. These dogs were called "yelps" in Russia, because, taking a trail, the four-legged hunters had to drive the animal, constantly notifying the owners of the close prey with shrill barking. With them hunted for a boar, a wolf, a fox, a hare and a roe. They appreciated the hounds for speed and tirelessness: a pack often hunted the beast for a whole day.
The dog was specially bred in order to overcome the long distances between the provinces and go without food for a long time.
Now the breed has become extinct, a golden retriever has become one of its descendants.
