Anglo-Nubian goats: advantages and disadvantages of breeding

Goats as a population are in the household of man since ancient times. Even then, products derived from goats were valued. Currently, there are many different breeds of this animal, one of which is Nubian, and it will be discussed in this article.

Origin of the Nubian breed

The history of the origin of the Nubian goats is rooted in the agricultural crop of England. This breed can be called quite youngShe is known to man just over a hundred years. After dairy breeds of African and Eastern states were brought to this country, English breeders, by crossing their breeds with foreign ones, as a result of long and laborious work, bred a new individual. She received name Nubian. This breed is currently widely bred in the CIS countries, America and Russia.

Russian farmers paid attention to the “Nubian” relatively recently - at the beginning of the second millennium. And the most distant the ancestors of the "Nubians" are considered goats bred in the Republic of Namibia. African continent.

In modern agricultural land, representatives of this breed have gained considerable popularity. If the Russians with this breed passed through the delivery from the USA, now it can be easily found on the Russian agricultural market. Moreover, it became widespread in almost all regions of an immense country, of course, with different densities. Although it is worth noting that the conditions of some regions are of little use for breeding goats of the Nubian breed. Therefore, the most southern regions have become favorable places for breeding such goats. The main carriers were industrial enterprises of the Tver and Samara regions.

That Nubian goats have won the hearts of many farmers and continue to do so.This is evidenced by the fact that there are a large number of sites in the vast Internet network devoted to this topic, as well as the constantly growing demand for Nubian individuals. Also here you can find a large number of forums where people exchange information about these animals, share their impressions, photos, tips and observations.

External data of the Nubian breed are distinguished by their originality and originality.

The body of the Nubian breed is oblong. It rests on thin legs, with hooves resembling sheep. To match the body - a long neck with a small head, the shape of which has some convexity. They do not have the usual big horns. Although individuals of the male nature still rewarded with small flat horns.

A special pride of goats of this breed are ears. They are long, hanging, immediately attracting attention. What can not be said about the beard. The usual for Nubian goats is the presence of a small beard or its absence. But, so if it is, then thick. A crooked nose is considered another distinctive feature of the Nubian breed. Huge eyes and wide cheekbones. These goats have a large udder with long nipples.

The growth of the adult Nubian goat reaches almost one meter mark. And the weight is usually from 60 to 80 kg. Such indicators are typical for males. Females, however, have somewhat reduced rates.

Short hair "nubiek" perfectly with the matchless color. The color range of such goats is very diverse. As a rule, these are pastel shades, from dark colors - black, brown, brown. In the color of a single individual, two colors are usually present. The main color, as a background, is either light or dark, and complementary to it, in the form of spots, is a contrasting color. But there are also multicolored individuals. By color, you can determine the purebred Nubian goat. The presence of white spots in it indicates that the goat was crossed with an English breed. And the presence of any other colors indicates it is not thoroughbred.

Useful qualities

The productive properties of the Nubian goat include the following:

  • Getting dairy products. Goats have a practically year-round lactation period. The volume of milk produced at one time ranges from 500 ml to 1 liter. Its nutritional qualities are as follows: it has valuable substances, tasty, with a pleasant odor, having a high fat content, which can reach a five percent indicator. The protein content is nearing 4%.
  • Without departing far from the topic, it is worth mentioning that the quality of milk is in no way affected by feed, but at the same time its quality and quantity directly affects the volume of milk. The resulting dairy product is useful for people with various types of diseases. For example, in diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, the liver, with various types of allergies, as well as successfully used in feeding children.
  • Receiving meat products. Nubian goats have very tasty meat. They are endowed with all the natural data for good growth and fattening. The same applies to fertility.
  • Production of products based on goat milk: cottage cheese, cheese. Nubian milk is perfect for cheese making. It is quite fat, with a rich taste.

The nature of the Nubian breed

These goats can be called very masterful. Herd instinct affects them favorably. In this form, they are the most manageable. At times they are stubborn and fastidious.. This is especially visible in food. Nubian goats are relatively calm, but rather agile.

An interesting fact was found in the interaction of individuals of this breed. Sometimes you can witness the observance of certain subordination. For example, Nubian goats, in the presence of individuals of larger sizes, become calmer, and may even shun them.

Nubian goats are very friendly to the person, trusting. In the presence of the owner, behave very appeasably. Adapted too well. Feel wonderful among other animals. But still, as owners of a rather sensitive nature, Nubian goats are unsuitable for breeding in conditions of large farms. In a sense, perfect for those who want to get an exotic pet.

Nubian goats require special care. Sensitive to climatic conditions. Therefore, regions with a mild, warm climate are best for breeding. But this is not a categorical condition. For comfortable maintenance, “Nubians” need a warm and bright room, preferably heated. As for the light, for this purpose there must be a window in the room, but it is well insulated - in order to avoid drafts. Be sure and the presence of litter. This can be either dry grass or sawdust. It will be nice to equip a special flooring, which will be a sleeping place for an animal.

The content of Nubian goats with other animals is quite realistic.. They feel very comfortable in company with any poultry. Food for Nubian goats should be selective, rich, high-calorie. "Nubian" very sensitive to the lack of minerals and nutrients. Therefore, it is necessary to follow this carefully. There is also a great need for a daily walk, especially in winter. The demanding of the Nubian goat can be traced to the observance of the time of feeding and milking.

Summarize all available information. In general, there are several advantages and disadvantages of the Nubian goat breed.

  • a beauty animal
  • odorless
  • very prolific
  • good milk yield

  • whimsical in food and care,
  • not suitable for all types of terrain,
  • has a loud voice, sometimes unpleasant to the ear.

History of Anglo-Nubian goat breed

Northeast Africa is one of the oldest centers of human civilization. About 10 thousand years have been engaged in animal husbandry in this region, so Nubian goats can be considered one of the oldest breeds.

Highly productive by the standards of the past centuries, Nubian goats attracted the attention of livestock breeders from around the world, and especially Europeans. In the past, these animals were imported to many countries. Especially in this succeeded the French.

We owe the creation of a modern Nubian breed to English breeders. It was on the territory of England at the end of the 19th century that experiments began to improve the local goat breeds, within the framework of which they were crossed with lop-eared Indian, Middle Eastern, Swiss and other goats. Even goats imported from Russia were attracted to the experiments.

The data on when exactly the formation of the Anglo-Nubian goat was completed is contradictory. Some sources indicate that the new breed received official status as early as 1896. Others write that its formation lasted at least until the 1930s.

Whatever it was, but the main genetic contribution to the emergence of the new species was made by local English and Nubian goats imported from the Middle East. As a result, it was decided to call the new breed Anglo-Nubian, although in parallel the term “Nubian” is often used as a synonym. It should be understood that today the Nubian goats call this breed bred in England, and not those goats that are still bred in the upper Nile. Thus, the question of how the Nubian goats are different from the Anglo-Nubian goats, loses its relevance.

These goats were imported to Russia only after the collapse of the USSR. This process has been particularly active in the last 15 years, but even today the total number of goats of this breed in the Russian Federation is extremely small.

Anglo-Nubian goats - photo and description

The breed has a very remarkable and memorable exterior. The first thing that catches your eye is a bright solemn color. The most common are the following types of suit:

In this case, most often animals have a non-uniform, but a multi-color color. Usually there are two-color individuals, but sometimes there are three colors at once. Moreover, the location of colored spots sometimes gets a very unusual configuration up to the "leopard" color in the most unexpected combinations (brown with black or brown with black and white). This diversity is clearly seen in the photo of the Anglo Nubian goats.

Since the breed is classified as meat and dairy (albeit with an emphasis on the dairy direction), animals are quite large in size. Females can weigh up to 80 kilograms, goats - up to a centner, although the average is 20 kg less. The average height of females is about 80 cm, males - 85.

With respect to Anglo-Nubian goats, the statement is often used that they have a face with a “Roman profile,” that is, the nose has a pronounced crook. The torso of the Anglo-Nubiek is long and narrow with a massive udder. Legs are long and slender. Goats are often hornless, although recklessness is not a mandatory sign of pure breed. Goats are always horned.

Another notable feature in the appearance of the Anglo-Nubian goats are large drooping ears, dropping well below the muzzle. Because of this, the hornless goats sometimes strongly resemble basset hounds with similar ears.

Paradoxically, but by their behavior, Nubian goats, too, are in many ways similar to dogs: they treat the owner as the leader of the herd, in all obeying him, follow him, react to their nicknames. Seeing a stranger "bark" him with his loud bleating. All this can be seen on the video of the Anglo-Nubian goats.

Farmers speak differently about the nature of "Nubiyek." Some describe them as hyper-active, wayward and rather noisy animals. Others on the contrary praise for a calm and gentle disposition.

Anglo-Nubian breed productivity

Nubian goats are considered universal, that is, they have good productivity indicators for both meat and milk.

After the first lambing, the average daily milk yield is about 3 liters, which, with an average lactation of about 300 days a year, gives gross annual milk yield at the level of 800–1000 liters. With each subsequent lamb milk production increases.

It is not only important how much Anglo Nubian goats give milk, but also of what quality it is. Fat content is 4-4.5%, but with enhanced nutrition, some individuals are able to give up to 8% fat. The high fat content allows milk to be used for cheese production. Moreover, the cost of raw materials will be lower than in the case of many other breeds, including zaanenskikh goats.

In addition to the high fat content, Nubian goat milk is known for its high protein content - 3.7%. Taste characteristics are also on the level. Milk does not have a goat odor and, according to many, has a pleasant nut-creamy flavor.

Although in Russia, with the exception of certain regions, it is not customary to breed goats for meat, when slaughtering these animals, the yield of meat products is also quite high. The meat itself has a pleasant delicate flavor and is devoid of a strong goat smell. True, this applies to young animals, not adult individuals, which, unfortunately, for objective reasons, produce more hard and odorous meat.

Care and feeding of Nubian goats

Due to the fact that the genes of African animals dominate in the blood of the Anglo-Nubian goats, even the rush of blood of the English goats did not make the breed adapted for a cold and damp climate. For this reason, before you buy an Anglo-Nubian goat, you must first prepare suitable housing for it.

If in the warm southern regions of Russia these goats can still be kept in a poorly insulated barn, then in the central and even more northern areas a capital well-insulated barn is needed. Nubian goats are very susceptible to dampness and drafts, instantly picking up pneumonia. Newborn kids in inappropriate conditions die almost immediately.

In addition to high-quality insulation of the shed should not be ignored and other more standard requirements for the room. In particular, it is necessary to ensure cleanliness, good lighting and high-quality ventilation.

For Nubian goats, wooden deck chairs with straw bedding should be separately equipped. During the rest, the animals will sort it out, pulling out the most delicious stalks. This straw should be regularly replaced, since the Nubians refuse to go to the dirty one categorically. If this is not done, the goats immediately fined the farm with low yields.

It should also be noted that Nubian women absolutely cannot stand the neighborhood with goats of other breeds and other animals in general. Such a company will provoke their aggression and also affect the yield.

The diet of the Anglo-Nubian goats is another problematic place. Only strictly adjusted products are suitable for them, and the daily feeding schedule (three meals) must be strictly observed. The basis of the menu should be:

  • hay in winter (up to 5 kg per day) and grass in summer (free grazing, or hay equivalent in case of stall),
  • grain-based feed concentrates (up to 2 kg),
  • vegetables or silage (up to a kilogram).

Regarding the amount of grain feed, there is even a standard formula: 300 grams by default and another 250 grams per liter of milk per day. To increase milk production, it is also recommended to give goats ground or steamed barley and oats.

In addition to grass, animal feed and vegetables, it is advisable to feed goats with brooms from the branches of various trees and shrubs. It is best suited willow, linden, hazel, etc.

Strictly required in the diet of the Anglo-Nubian goats and vitamin supplements. In order not to bother with the purchase of individual drugs, you can immediately use feeds with premixes specifically designed for meat and dairy goats. Next to the drinkers or feeders must be salt salt licks. Also in the diet should always be chalk.

Advantages and disadvantages of the Anglo-Nubian goat breed

Even at home in England, breeding Anglo-Nubian goats are not particularly popular. The total number of purebred livestock there does not exceed one and a half thousand individuals. Outside the UK, there are relatively many Nubian goats in the USA alone. As for our country, here we are talking only about a few hundred heads. The reason for the low popularity of the breed is that its advantages cannot level out significant shortcomings, therefore, in general, the Nubiecs outperform the same Zaanen goats.

The main advantages of the Anglo-Nubian breed can be considered:

  1. Gorgeous exterior. There are few breeds of domestic goat, which would have the same outstanding appearance as the Nubian. Some individuals, due to their unusual variegated color, could easily play the role of decorative animals in a home zoo.
  2. Adaptability to the heat. In regions with hot or just warm climates, these goats feel just fine.
  3. High yield. The average productivity is more than 800 kg of milk per year, which is a really great indicator. Given the high quality of milk, these goats are one of the leaders in the dairy direction.
  4. Good meat productivity. Juveniles quickly increase their live weight, and the taste characteristics of meat are superior to most other dairy breeds.

Looking at these advantages, it seems that on Avito the Anglo-Nubian goats should be wildly popular with farmers. Однако взглянув на перечень недостатков, становится понятно, почему это не так:

  1. Непереносимость холода и сырости. На большей части территории России климат достаточно прохладный и влажный. А именно такие условия противопоказаны англо-нубийским козам. To keep them in the central and northern regions, while receiving consistently high milk yield, it is necessary to create truly greenhouse conditions for animals.
  2. Demanding conditions and feed. The slightest deviations in the composition of the feed, feeding schedule or in conditions of detention immediately affect the milk production and even the health of Nubian goats. To achieve maximum productivity, the farmer will have to make a lot of effort.
  3. Intolerance of the neighborhood with other animals. There can be no question of keeping the Anglo-Nubian in close proximity to other animals, including goats of other breeds. On a large farm, this can create significant difficulties.

Prospects for breeding Anglo-Nubian goats in Russia

Goat breeding in general is very poorly developed in Russia, and the breeding of Nubian goats is completely concentrated in the hands of very few enthusiasts. The reasons for the low popularity of this breed are directly derived from its shortcomings. These goats require too much hassle to get the same result that less finicky breeds provide.

From the above, only one conclusion can be made. In the foreseeable future, the growth in the number of Nubian goats in Russia will be extremely slow. While there are Zaanen and other equally productive breeds, from a commercial point of view, there is simply no sense in Anglo-Nubiek breeding. At the moment, these goats are bred almost exclusively by fans, so to speak. For these people, certain subjective factors (the same beautiful exterior) than practical benefits are of prime importance.

Nubian goat breed: description

To confuse this breed with any other is absolutely impossible. Distinctive features of Nubian goats are very long hanging ears and a hunchbacked noble "Roman" profile. The absolute absence of a specific smell can be attributed to the unconditional advantages of this breed. The color of the Nubian goats can be anything: black, brown, gray, white, patterned. Very beautiful motley animals of this breed look.

Nubian goat is classified as meat and dairy. These are very large animals with a long narrow body, strong legs and a large udder.

The advantages of the Nubian goat include high fecundity. By nature, these are active, cheerful animals, curious, kindly related to their owners. Nubians feel best in the herd if there are no other breed goats in it. To cold, these animals are somewhat unstable. After all, the ancestors of these goats still lived in the warm and warm Asian and African countries.

What should be the room

Since the Nubian breed of goats does not tolerate cold, these animals will best feel in a heated shed. In any case, the room for them should be dry and bright. The presence of cracks in the walls is not allowed. Like any other goats, Nubians do not tolerate drafts. The window in the barn should be required. Very nice to arrange in the room for goats ventilation.

On the floor, be sure to lay out a litter of hay, straw or sawdust. Its large layer (40-50 cm) will allow to keep heat indoors and in the winter period of time.

Since the goats do not like to sleep on the floor, it is advisable to arrange special loungers for the Nubiyek. To do this, along the perimeter of the shed on the walls are filled with wide boards (at a height of about 40 cm). You can also make a low platform in the room. It is allowed to keep these goats together with chickens, cows and other domestic animals.

In winter, goats (on not-too-frosty days) should definitely be let out for a walk. For this, a pen is arranged next to the shed. It is advisable to cover it with a canopy. In the southern regions of the country, goats of this breed are allowed to be kept without a shed. In this case, a large paddock is also set up, covered by a rain canopy.

The development of a special diet, the Anglo-Nubian breed of goats does not require. These animals are fed with hay, grass, branches, shredded, peeled vegetables, bran, oilcake, etc. Mineral supplements must be given - chalk, salt, etc. In the winter period, root vegetables and potatoes should be included in the diet. It is necessary to prepare and more brooms. Birch is better not to give. Eating them in large quantities in goats of any breed can cause kidney disease.

In the summer, animals are driven out to pastures. When choosing a place for grazing, it is necessary to take into account the fact that the harder, odorous steppe prefer the watery grasses of the lowlands of the goat. Near the pasture there must be a reservoir. It must be at least 5 km away from industrial facilities.

Pasture is divided into several sections. Grazing is done alternately on each of them. This allows a more rational use of grass. Goats eat almost all its varieties. While grazing is done on one of the plots, the grass on the neighboring ones has time to grow.

The Nubian goat breed is distinguished by a rather high fecundity. In the litter is usually 2-3 cubs. Kids grow very quickly. Of course, subject to good content and balanced feeding. The first mating is carried out after the animals are 8 months old. Nubian goats are usually kept together with goats. The tribe is selected well-developed active, large animals. The goatling after birth is fed from the bottle with colostrum of the mother, which has undergone heat treatment.

How much do animals cost?

The Nubian breed of goats, introduced in Russia in 1999, whose general characteristics were examined by us above, was very popular with domestic farmers. Kids quickly bought up and delivered to different parts of the country. Today, the Nubian goat can be bought with virtually no problems. True, these animals are still quite expensive. In a breeding farm, for example, an adult goat will have to pay about 200-250 thousand rubles. The young monthly goat will cost 100 thousand rubles. But you can find manufacturers and cheaper. On the Internet there are ads for the sale of adult animals and for 30-40 thousand rubles.

As you can see, the Nubian breed of goats is characterized by high productivity and unpretentiousness. In the middle zone of Russia, due to the instability to cold, these animals, of course, are unlikely to ever become especially popular. But in the southern regions of the country, farmers may take their breeding seriously.

Breed characteristic

Representatives of this breed have a rather unusual appearance. The main feature of the exterior are large hanging ears, which are located below the muzzle of a goat. By this they look like basset hounds (a breed of dog).

Habits also resemble dogs - they believe that their owner is the leader of the pack, follow him, respond to the names. When they see a stranger, they run to him, making loud noises.

Representatives of the breed have a pronounced "Greek profile." But the color can be very diverse:

  • pinto,
  • brown
  • bay
  • beige
  • white
  • black
  • stained "under the leopard."

The goats have short, silky and smooth coat. Males are always with big horns. Females are usually horny, but this is not the dominant trait of these animals. Foreign breed can be described as large - body weight of sexually mature females can reach 80 kg. Males can reach 100 kg in weight. Height at withers is 90 cm. Paws are thin, proportionate to the body, the neck of the animal is long.

It is impossible to say exactly what kind of character a breed has: some breeders note the willfulness and restlessness of animals, while others, on the contrary, say that they are gentle, kind and quiet. Probably, quality data is influenced by the conditions in which the goats are kept, how they are fed and how the owners relate to them.

Advantages and disadvantages of the breed

The appearance of the Nubian goats has no competitors. However, they have a lot of other advantages, when compared with other breeds:

  1. The productivity of females after three lactations can reach five liters per day.
  2. Lactation period is at least 300 days in 12 months.
  3. The milk of these goats has a high percentage of fat, so it can be used to make delicious cheeses.
  4. Young individuals rapidly gain weight, the meat of this breed is a delicacy product.
  5. In one lamb, two or three goats can appear in the light, and they are large and strong.
  6. Goats can produce offspring twice a year.

If we talk about the minuses of the breed, we can note the following:

  1. Individuals with a color coat are attacked by blood-sucking parasites more often than having a white coat.
  2. Representatives of this breed must be carefully looked after and a special feeding regimen must be followed, giving food in a strictly allotted time.
  3. Such goats cannot be kept in commercial farms. Not able to tolerate the presence of a number of other types of livestock.

How to maintain and care for Nubian goats

Although such goats have acclimatized, they do not tolerate the harsh climatic conditions of many Russian regions. In order to contain them, a barn in which the wind is walking will not work. Drugs and high humidity have a negative effect on animals - they can get pneumonia. Kids in such conditions can die only when born.

Some requirements are made to the room in which these animals will be kept: it must be light, clean, warm and have good ventilation.

Attention! Overseas goats will not tolerate around themselves representatives of other breeds. Besides the fact that they will behave aggressively, their productivity will decrease.

Nubians are perfect for individual plank beds made of wood, to cover which straw is used - they like to sort it out and try the most delicious stalks. The straw should be replaced regularly: the animal will not go to the contaminated surface, it will behave restlessly, which will affect the amount of milk.

The owner of the Nubian goat should pay special attention to its diet, as well as to the feeding regime. During the wintering period, food should be given three times a day.

The ration should consist of hay (about 5 kg), concentrates from grain (about 2 kg), vegetables, silage, branches (about 1 kg). The calculation of the volume of concentrate per individual is quite simple. The amount of feed should consist of necessarily 300 g, to which 250 g should be added for each liter of milk that the animal has given. Goats are very fond of brooms, which are made of pine, as well as bark of linden, hazel, willow, mountain ash or maple.

It is possible to noticeably increase the number of milk yields by including oats and barley in the ration of a goat, preliminarily grinding or steaming them.

Nubians are given vitamins on a mandatory basis. They are present in specialized feed intended for meat and dairy breeds. In the winter months it is advisable to add salt to the water for drinking. In the summer - put lizuntsy near tanks with drinking water. Chalk should be a component of the diet all the time.

It is necessary to feed and milk a goat according to a strictly fixed schedule (the owner of the animal himself develops it himself individually). This is necessary to avoid stress, and therefore reduce the productivity of the goat.

If the herd is kept in pasture conditions, in the evening oats, barley, fruits and vegetables should be added to livestock feed. It is necessary to remember about males: in the mating season they must eat heavily, legumes, cereals, vitamin complexes, minerals are desirable.

How Nubian goats are bred

Anyone who decides to breed Nubian goats, can secure a good profit: the cost per pure goat breed is at least 120 thousand rubles. Nubian women demonstrate good productivity when they produce offspring.

The main feature of this breed is considered the possibility of crossing as a representative of the same breed, and other species. Thanks to this, you can achieve excellent results:

  • increase milk fat,
  • increase productivity
  • accelerated weight gain.

You should know that the kids who have just been born do not have immunity against diseases. Therefore, it is necessary immediately after birth to give them maternal colostrum. A few drops of useful fluid “turn on” the kid's immune system.

When choosing the representatives of the Nubian breed for breeding, you can be sure that the productivity of animals will be high, the milk will have a high percentage of fat, and the meat - excellent taste. But the owner will have to make some efforts to provide the cattle with proper care and good nutrition.

Short description

Even the general characteristics of the Nubian goat breed can not leave indifferent a lover of such peace-loving animals. The mere fact that their milk has extremely valuable qualities and that goats are raised for the purpose of obtaining meat, prompts a closer look at this breed. It is noteworthy that the repulsive goat smell does not emanate from the animals themselves, which some breeders eschew when they think to acquire any livestock.

Unique appearance

Against the background of all representatives of this genus in the description of the breed of Nubian goats several distinctive external features can be distinguished:

  • The first thing you can pay attention to is the outline of a proud profile, which is commonly called "Roman." Looking from the side, it seems that the nose of the animal protrudes from the crown of the head, its continuing line comes to nothing closer to the nostrils.
  • Unlike the horned Nubian goats, the female individual either has no horns at all, or they are barely noticeable.
  • Long, prickly ears that hang loosely below the neck of an animal distinguish them from other goat breeds.
  • If you look at a herd of artiodactyls, then it simply is replete with a variety of color. They are brown, black, white and gray. Because of all sorts of combinations of primary colors, animals are spotted.
  • In contrast to the narrow body and thin legs, goats have a very large udder. The photos of the Nubian breed goat provided in this article perfectly illustrate the outward signs of a breeding animal.

Characteristics of the breed

The goal, which was pursued by the breeders - to create meat and dairy goats, exceeded their expectations.

Thanks to the genes of European and Asian breeds that were used for crossing, the new breed of Nubian goats turned out quite hardy. Despite the elegant structure of the legs, they are strong enough and elastic. Such a conclusion can be made because a long body and a heavy udder are easily held on thin legs. At the same time, animals move freely and even run. The weight of an adult goat is about 80 kg, and a large goat - 130.

The characteristic of the Nubian goat breed indicates the active fertility of these animals. Kids are born strong and have 100% survival.

Animal meat has excellent taste. Juicy and tender product is suitable for cooking a wide range of different dishes.

The stable taste of milk, which is not affected by the quality of the feed, is a big advantage. For example, goat breeds know that if an animal eats bitter grass, the bitterness passes into milk. Breeding goat can save the host from such trouble. For the entire period of lactation, an individual female can produce about 1000 liters of milk - this is about 4-5 liters per day.

Nubian goats are playful and curious by nature. They are attached to the owners and very friendly with them. An animal can show disobedience only if the person does not create suitable conditions for it or if stale food is found in the food.

Interestingly, goats perceive other animals and birds. They perfectly respond to cows living in the neighborhood, but they behave aggressively, seeing their own kind in another breed. When it comes to feeding, animals separate and do not tolerate the neighborhood of other pets.

How to determine purebred breed

Low set ears, which are 2 cm longer than the neck, - the most pronounced visual sign of animal purebred. And they should be long already at the birth of a kid.

A distinctive feature is the short shiny wool, which is quite soft and smooth to the touch.

A clear domed profile transition in a pedigree goat does not change its shape. If it is even slightly modified, such an animal cannot be purebred.

The biggest drawback and, probably, the only one is the price of an elite breed, which reaches 200,000 rubles.

Another minor drawback is a very loud, unpleasant voice, which the farmer will have to hear regularly for the reason that the animal cannot be called silent.

Arrangement of premises

Anglo-Nubian goats are heat-loving animals, so the preparation of the premises for the winter period should be taken care of in advance. A shed for keeping an exotic breed must meet 4 basic requirements.

  • Warming Nubian goat breed does not tolerate frosts, so first of all they need to create heating. Indoors, all the cracks should be carefully repaired, as the animal can get sick due to the drafts. It is better to have wooden floors and a little tilted.
  • Lighting. When building a room, it is imperative to provide for the presence of windows, since the ingress of sunlight is an important factor for animals accustomed to walking through meadows. On a cloudy day, especially in the evening, you can turn on the light in the barn.
  • Ventilation. The lack of a ventilation system can lead to the development of bacteria and, as a result, to the disease of the animals themselves. The accumulation of stale air in the room will adversely affect the behavior of the goats, they will become excessively restless.
  • Observance of cleanliness. Goats have always been considered clean, and Nubians are no exception. Animals are fastidious and they will never eat rotted hay. They also do not sleep on the dirty litter and on the floor. In this regard, the goats behave stubbornly and begin to have poor contact with the owners. To smooth this problem, special plank beds are built for animals, which are located 40 cm from the floor. It is important to ensure that the straw on them is fresh and clean.

Next to the room where the goats will live, you should build a shelter with a canopy to walk the animals in more moderate weather.

Feed and milk Nubian goats should be on a clear schedule. In the stall period, this should be done three times a day. The main ration includes: hay (5 kg), grain products (2 kg) and silage (1 kg).

To improve milk yield, goats are fed with steamed oats (barley), vitamin complexes and chalk are added.

Water must be warm and slightly salted.

In the summer season, animals feed on pastures and prefer steppes. In the evenings, they need to give vegetables and fruits.

As already mentioned in the characteristics of the Nubian goats, animals are distinguished by high fecundity. The birth of one kid is an extremely rare phenomenon in this breed, most often two or three of them.

Already by eight months the goat is ready to mate. "Nubians" are able to produce offspring 2 times a year.

As a goat manufacturer choose the most active from all herds.

Some cattle breeders engaged in livestock breeding are trying to preserve the original qualities of the breed by crossing the Nubian goats with other productive breeds. The method they use is called work on absorption. The goat, obtained as a result of such mating, again crosses with the purebred goat.

The product of the Anglo-Nubian breed of goats has absolutely no resemblance to the classic goat's milk. It can not be compared with cow's milk. It has an unmatched taste and is very fat (5-8%). In milk, there is no peculiar smell characteristic of the goat product. This allows you to use it to those who can not tolerate the usual goat's milk, and even children will be happy to drink it. They make excellent yogurts, cottage cheese and sour cream.

Basically, milk is used to make cheeses. The product turns out dense, fat and possesses special tastes.

Goat breeders manage to sell products in private. According to buyers, the taste of milk resembles a creamy ice cream.

The best qualities that only a pet can have are Nubian goats. Breed description and photo leave a positive impression. It is clear that not everyone can buy such an expensive animal, but many people will be able to enjoy the taste of products made from oily milk.
