Despite its long history, the German Pinscher is today considered a rare breed. More popular are his kindred, namely dwarf Pincher and Dobermans. Many people do not know the fact that it is the “German” that is the ancestor of these dogs and is called the “standard” in a different way.

Origin

The appearance of the graceful German Pinscher dates back to the 18th century. Back then, in Germany, breeders tried to breed a breed that could protect the farm from rodent invasions. Not without the popular at that time rat battles, in which the pinscher had no equal. Often these animals were sent to the stable for the purpose of protection. And puppies coped with this task perfectly.

According to external data, the German Pinscher is similar to the Schnauzer, who is the progenitor of this breed. There was a period when schnauzers and pinschers were distinguished only by their hardness of wool. In 1879, the standard pinscher was recognized as a separate breed with its own standards.

Breed description

Today, the German Pinscher belongs to the category of medium-sized hunting breeds with docile temperament, ideal for home keeping. These puppies combine a lot of positive qualities for which people respect them. Many people know the special ability of the pinscher to jump up to one and a half meters in height. In jumping, puppies keep the body level and exactly parallel to the floor. So pets often express their joy when the owner appears, and thanks to this ability often takes part in dog sports competitions.

Sorry, there are currently no polls available.

A beautiful graceful puppy with crooked standing or hanging triangular ears, a cuneiform head and clever eyes - this is what the standard German pinscher remembers. His posture is straight, the line of the back smoothly descends to the tail, which is stopped to the third vertebra. Hind and front paws parallel to each other, with rather thin, but very strong bones. According to the description of the standard, the length of the head is approximately equal to the length of the neck.

Brown oval eyes are arranged symmetrically with respect to a narrow nose. Cheekbones are not pronounced, tight lips with dark edging pressed to the jaw. Scissor bite. Standard pinscher smooth-haired, with a soft short pile without a pad.

Size and physique

The dog is of medium size, the height of males and bitches is from 45 to 50 cm, the average weight is 15-20 kg. All standard pincher have a strong muscular physique, which gives them an amazing endurance, which is equated with horse. Puppies of this breed have a graceful bearing and noble appearance.

Coat color

The description of breed standards allows several variants of colors:

  1. Monophonic (from yellowish to dark brown with black tips).
  2. Two-tone (black and tan).

If there are burrs, their borders should be even and sharp in shape, arranged according to the standard above the eyes, on the back of the nose, on the chest in the form of two triangles, around the anus, on the front and rear limbs.

Pet content

Care for the German Pinscher is not difficult for an experienced breeder. A puppy needs to be kept clean and properly educated. Bathing pet will have infrequently. In addition to washing, the ears should be cleaned and the claws cut. With proper care, the life span of dogs of this breed is 15-17 years. All of them have appeasable character and loyalty, so they will certainly bring a lot of joy to their family.

The diet of puppies is made individually, taking into account the characteristics of each pet (season, place of residence, activity, height and weight). Judging by the reviews of the owners, often the choice falls on the finished dry mixture with a balanced content of useful components. If you also decide to feed your dog dry food, you will need to purchase exceptionally good premium premium brands.

When natural nutrition should take into account the animal's need for fiber, as well as a balanced ratio of proteins, fats and carbohydrates, depending on the season. At any time of the year, your pet's diet should include an adequate amount of meat and vegetables. You can supplement the food with cereals and dairy products. Portions should be such that the dog's stomach does not stretch and is completely emptied until the next meal. Clean cool water should also always be present in the kitchen.

Grooming

Smooth German pinscher does not require complex care. When contaminated during a walk it will be enough to wipe the wool with a cloth. It is necessary to bathe a dog not more often than once in two months. To reduce the number of dead hairs on surfaces in your home, brush your puppy a couple of times a week with a soft brush.

German Pinscher has a cheerful character, while getting along well in an apartment with people, children and other animals, subject to certain rules and regulations. So, the animal is not recommended to be left alone with the kids, as the pet is too jealous to protect their toys and in an impulse of fun can inadvertently injure the child. In relation to other pets, the instincts of the hunter and watchman can “wake up” at the Pinscher. This is a feature of his character.

The German Pinscher simply adores his master and is ready to follow him everywhere. But it is worth paying tribute to the pincher, he does it unobtrusively. In any weather, puppies of this breed are ready to play and have fun. For the full upbringing and development of the dog, it is necessary to regularly walk and sufficiently physically load it.

A standard pinscher is smart and capable of manipulation, so an experienced breeder is more suitable for his content. Overall, the German Pinscher is an excellent companion and a good friend for a person with a strong character.

Upbringing and training

This breed requires a confident but gentle upbringing without admixture of aggression and anger. Training should be done definitely on an empty stomach, otherwise there will be no point in it. Your pet will be happy to learn new things and will try to please you in everything. In addition, Pinschers often take part in sports dog competitions due to their activity and physical endurance. On the rules of training you can see the video from experienced dog breeders.

The future owner should take into account the fact that the Pinschers are somewhat alien to aliens, and therefore it is better to begin socializing the dog as soon as possible. Reviews of the owners confirm the fact that puppies of this breed are better for getting to someone who already has experience in cynology. There is some stubbornness and cunning in the character of these dogs.

The origin of the breed

German or standard pinscher was known in the XV century. At that time, such dogs accompanied stage trainings, and in places of parking they guarded things and horses. Also dogs drove away rats and other rodents.

By the middle of the XIX century, the Pinschers firmly secured the right to be called assistants, guards, and friends; they could be found in many homes as aristocrats and ordinary citizens. At the same time, the active breeding of pinschers began, and clubs were created. And in 1870, a breeder from Thuringia, whose name was Frederick Doberman, derived the well-known breed Doberman Pinscher.

Until 1879 there was two kinds pinschers: smooth and haired. Then the latter were called schnauzers, and smooth-haired - German Pinschers, and a hard selection of puppies began to create uniformity in the breed. In 1880 the first standard was published with a detailed description.

Initially, yellow or gray-yellow puppies were born more often. And the black and tan and dark-red pincers that we were used to, which were more in demand, did not fit the standard - it was believed that they had an admixture of an English terrier.

In 1923, the standard was revised and amended. From now on, gray yellow or blue, as well as light red pinschers are considered undesirable and are excluded from the standard.

The German Pinscher is widely distributed in Europe and beyond, and is also recognized by all global and local canine organizations. In 2007, the breed was approved by the FCI (ICF) with the adoption of the standard under No. 184 in the group “Pinchers, schnauzers, molossi and Swiss shepherd dogs” in the section “Pinchers and schnauzers”.

Breed destination

Pincher always been the constant assistants cabbies and grooms. They guarded the stagecoach during the stops, while at the stables they served as rat catchers. In addition, these dogs bravely guarded the housing and the owners themselves from uninvited guests.

And these are good burrowing hunters for whom it is not difficult to catch a fox. Pinchers are often found in the service of law enforcement agencies and can be brave bodyguards. But above all, they are loyal and devoted companions.

Description of the nature of the breed

German Pinschers are energetic and gambling fun. In addition, they are very mobile and durable. In the Middle Ages, they had to run several kilometers along with horses without stopping. Pincher non-aggressive and balanced. But, despite the friendliness, they are able to defend the owner or his property and repel any adversary.

Pincher incredibly smart. They can even be trained by a teenager. Moreover, they are loyal and obedient, although they can sometimes try to show a waywardness, which is easily removed by proper upbringing.

Pincher do not shed and can get along even in city apartments, but with the condition that they will be daily with them for a long walk. They need good physical exertion, which they can get by joining you for a jogging or cycling trip.

How to choose a puppy

If you want to get a healthy and purebred puppy, then forget about flea markets and single ads on the Internet or newspaper, and contact the nursery or the breeder of this particular breed. Only in this case you will be able to become the owner of a puppy, which has passed a quality test and was kept in accordance with all the rules and regulations.

Since pinschers have several hereditary diseases, it is not unusual for puppies to conduct special tests for their early detection even before the sale. This will be indicated in the documents. Inquire about parental disease and pay attention to the maintenance conditions of the litter.

Indoors or aviary should reign maximum purity. Despite the fact that childbirth and feeding are very exhausting and weak, the bitch should have a healthy look. This suggests proper care and feeding with the addition of the necessary vitamins that puppies also received from her milk. Puppies themselves should not be lean or overfed.

A healthy puppy is always distinguished by a shiny coat and a wet, cold nose. An exception is a puppy's warm nose during or after sleep.

The German Pinscher is brave and brave, and therefore his puppies in any case should not be cowardly. Taking such a puppy, you risk getting the same adult dog. To test a future pet for cowardice, clap your hands loudly enough or throw a bunch of keys. A puppy may bounce, but not escape.

Take a closer look at the movements. If the puppy limps, then he already has problems with the joints. Also check the purity of the ears. Some breeders are still cropping ears and tails, but in many countries this is already prohibited.

Dog Nicknames

For such an elegant and reliable breed, like the German Pinscher, the following names are suggested:

  • for dog - Iron, Armand, Byron, Blade, Winston, Gray, Dark, Jake, Zach, Zoltan, Kelt, Lord, Nelson, Oscar, Spike and so on
  • for bitches - Aisha, Akira, Jess, Kara, Lika, Nick, Rachel, Sandra, Tina, Tess, Chelsea, Erica and the like.

Care and maintenance

Pincher care is very simple. Instead of combing you can walk on the wool with a wet towel. So the dust will be removed, and possible fallen hairs will be removed. As a rule, pinschers do not fade. If they have started to climb wool, then it is necessary to contact a veterinarian with this problem. Often there is no need to bathe the dog. And behind her ears need regular care, especially if they are not cropped. Also need to regularly get rid of fleas and worms.

Pincher more adapted to living indoors. Therefore, if you live in a private house, then it is better to take it to the house for the winter. You can equip a good aviary. But the dog will be more comfortable if it can move freely around the yard. Be careful, because they can dig holes. If you decide to start a pinscher in an apartment, then teach him to ask for a toilet.

Long and daily walk with the dog. It is better to do this far from the playgrounds and people, in those places where you can pull the dog off the leash and give it plenty to run. And if you take a ball or a stick with you, your pet will be extremely happy. An ideal place for walking will be a fenced area with exercise equipment.

Possible health problems

As already mentioned, Pinschers are subject to certain hereditary diseases. They have dysplasia of the hip joints and congenital cardiomyopathy. There is also Willibrand disease, that is, poor blood clotting, which can be compared with human hemophilia. Pinchers are susceptible to allergic reactions.

But in general, it is a healthy breed, although, according to some geneticists, Pinchers have low immunity. This is one of the reasons why a dog needs vaccinations against dangerous infectious diseases. BUT to strengthen the immune system will help frequent walks and proper nutrition.

Eating puppy and adult dog

From the moment of the appearance of ready-made feeds, disputes over the better way to feed the dogs do not stop. Natural feeding is considered more natural, as the animal has been accustomed to independently obtain food for many centuries. But it is not so.

Thanks to human intervention, pedigreed dogs have become somewhat pampered and require a more balanced and properly prepared diet. The perfect ratio of all that is necessary for a pet is precisely the ready-made types of food. But their use has several rules:

  • It should be at least premium class. Economy feed in large quantities contain chemical preservatives, flavor enhancers and other additives.
  • In no case can not use feed expired. It is often sold by weight.
  • It is not recommended to soak dry food with milk or broth. It upsets his balance.
  • It is necessary to adhere to the instructions and do not pour food "by eye".
  • No need to give additional vitamin complexes, since everything you need is already present in the mixtures.

Natural nutrition also has its difficulties:

  • It needs to be cooked every day or every other day, and it takes time.
  • Meat should not be fat. Beef, turkey, chicken or their offal are more suitable.
  • Fish is better to take the sea and choose from it large bones.
  • Meat and fish must be boiled.
  • Cereals can be used any other than barley. It is not absorbed at all.
  • Fresh milk causes diarrhea in dogs. It is better to replace fermented milk products.
  • There is a need for vitamin supplements.

Try to give any type of feed at the same time.. An adult dog should be fed twice a day, and puppies three to five times, depending on age.

Briefly about training

If you show the dog that you are more important from the first days and teach her to obey, then you will have no problems with the training of the pinscher. This is a breed of intelligent and capable students. Even a teenager can cope with their upbringing. But pincers can be capricious and initially try to show their primacy.

Try not to raise the voice of the pet and do not use physical influences in the learning process. Try to give clear commands in a firm voice and do not forget about the promotions. With the right tactics, you will end up with a very obedient and half-word dog.

If you have any difficulties with its training from the very beginning, then it is better to immediately seek help from a canine specialist than to get a dog that sits on your neck.

Advantages and disadvantages

Naughty, funny, very smart and loyal - This is just a brief description of the German Pinscher. They make not only good companions, but also brave defenders who will not let a single stranger pass by themselves. They treat all strangers with suspicion and suspicion.

Pincher non-aggressive and balancedbut may be jealous of their toys and other things. Therefore, if there is a small child in the house, then you need to follow their games. These are friendly and peace-loving dogs that will not be the first to bully, but always ready to fight back.

Pinschers treat other dogs calmly and play around with joy. And if you are a fan of jogging or cycling, then the pinscher will be happy to accompany you, and you will rather get tired than the dog. If you show not only strictness in education, but also surround your pet with care and love, then for many years you will be provided with a loyal and devoted friend.

Owner reviews

I like this breed very much. I now have one year old Rich. When I was little, we already had such a dog. I remember how Gemma often tried to bite me on the legs. Therefore, I would not really recommend this breed to families with small children.

The German Pinscher, in my opinion, has a lot of positive qualities, both in care and in character. These dogs are very dedicated and incredibly intelligent. He knows all the teams by heart and unquestioningly performs them. The only drawback, as for me, is the pinscher hyperactivity. You need to walk with him as much as possible.

Before that, I had three Dobermans. After the death of the latter, I decided to take the German Pincher. It seems to be a small difference, but for me Kylie was the perfect dog. Pincher more obedient and educated. Never, without permission, even take a piece of sausage. Maybe, of course, I was so lucky. In general, I am now a big fan of pinschers, and for me this is the best companion in the world.

Appearance standard

The German Pinscher is a medium-sized smooth-haired dog with a proud posture, graceful lines of the body and well-developed relief muscles, which is especially noticeable during movement. Height at withers - 45-50 cm, weight - 14-20 kg. Sexual dimorphism is moderately pronounced.

The skull is strong, elongated, the occiput is not protruding, the forehead is flat, the foot is slightly expressed. The muzzle has the shape of a blunt wedge with a straight back of the nose. The lobe is black, well developed. Lips are dry, fit tightly to the jaws, black. Jaws strong, scissor bite. The eyes are oval-shaped, dark with black, close-fitting eyelids. Ears hang on a cartilage, triangular in shape, set high. The inner edges of the ears are adjacent to the cheekbones. The folds of the ears should not be above the top of the skull, parallel to each other.

The ears and tail of the German Pinscher can be cropped or remain in its natural form.

The neck is curved, of normal length, smoothly turning into withers, without dewlap. Durable enclosure is close to square format. The topline has a slight slope towards the tail. The back is short, strong. The loin is deep, short. The croup slightly rounded smoothly passes into the base of the tail. Chest oval cross-section, wide. The bottom line is moderately selected, forms a smooth line. The tail is crescent-shaped or saber-shaped. Legs strong, straight and parallel. Rear when viewed from the side stand obliquely, when viewed from the rear - parallel. Paws rounded, short, with tightly toed fingers. Rear slightly longer than the front. Black paws and claws.

The skin is tight, elastic. The coat is thick, dense, short, smooth and shiny. The color can be monochromatic (Murugy, red-brown, red) or black and tan. Red or brown markings, clearly defined, rich color, located above the eyes, on the throat, chest, paws, inner side of the hind legs, under the base of the tail.

The German Pinscher has a balanced nature in which mind, energy, independence, courage and endurance are harmoniously combined. Such qualities as reliability, dedication, sociability and playfulness make him a wonderful companion. Pinscher has a pronounced territorial instinct and a sense of possessiveness. He vigilantly carries the guard service and at the same time does not bark over trifles. In view of its size, a pinscher cannot be a bodyguard, but, if necessary, he will put all efforts to protect the owner and his territory from encroachment. Often, a pinscher jealously guards food and toys even from his own. To strangers pinscher is wary, rarely aggressive.

Standard pinscher has a pronounced hunting instinct. It is not customary to use it as a hunting dog, but it is necessary to take this feature into account when training and walking.

German Pinscher is known for his stubbornness, autonomy and cunning. If you indulge the dog with unnecessary, this will not be the best effect on the character. Pincher will become overly independent, disobedient, and maybe even aggressive. He will try to become the head of the family from the very first moment of his appearance in the new house, and if he succeeds, he will crawl around his neck and adjust the world to himself in all possible ways. The owner must show who is the owner, to gain credibility and defend the leadership position.

German pinscher can not stand loneliness and routine. They love noisy, active games and travel. A well-bred dog in the family circle is benevolent and gentle, but at the same time it requires respectful attitude both to himself and his personal space. It will be happy to play with older children, but to the pranks of young children is not always tolerated. If a child has appeared in a family where there is already an adult dog, their communication should be strictly controlled.

With other animals, personal relationships develop differently. Pinchers are hard to make contact with cats because of their excessive activity. They get along well with other dogs, but conflicts can arise against the background of jealousy, division of territory and the establishment of hierarchical relations. Small animals and birds are regarded by Pincher as potential prey and rarely live to old age when living together.

Content Features

German pinscher is not suitable for captive keeping due to poor cold tolerance, but he feels great in the house or even in a small apartment, provided he has a good range. This is a dog for energetic people who are ready not just to walk with a pet twice a day, but to walk with him daily in various active games. Pincher is persistent and requires a lot of attention, everywhere and after the owner. Some may be happy and amused, but for others, constant persecution can be tedious and irritable. At home, Pinscher must have his own inviolable territory for sleeping and relaxing with a stove bench, personal bowls and toys.

Pinchers are highly intelligent dogs that do not like staying at home. In order to avoid destructive behavior, you need to leave a choice of several toys. Perfectly suited interactive and intelligent on finding and mining delicacies.

The past of the German Pinschers is reflected in their behavior today. They are born rats with a keen sense of smell, and from here their passion for digging comes up. A dog that smelled a mouse at a site can dig a huge hole in the middle of a bed in a matter of seconds. Pincher is prone to pursuing cars, he tries to accompany them, as once the carriage, is not afraid and often gets under the wheels.

Pinscher is very active, energetic, he needs long walks and active games. He can become a companion for jogging or cycling. Many dogs play with a plate or a ball with pleasure, but are not able to perform the same thing monotonously, and therefore are not well suited for serious sports.

Caring for German pinschers is not complicated, the whole complex is reduced to the regular implementation of simple hygienic procedures. Comb the wool with a special brush or mitten for short-haired breeds 2-3 times a week. Bathe the dog once a month. Regularly inspect the eyes and ears for contamination and clean as needed. Pinchers rarely have problems with the oral cavity, however, it is better to teach the dog to brush your teeth at an early age and, at least once a week, to brush your teeth. It is also necessary to monitor the growth of claws and trim them every 3-4 weeks.

Feed the German Pinscher can be natural or ready-made feed. Type of food selects the owner. Both the first and second options are acceptable when it comes to high quality products. A natural diet is made according to standard rules for dogs. The finished feed is selected based on the size, age and activity of the dog. Standard pincher suited feed above super-premium class for active dogs medium size.

Health and life expectancy

In general, German Pinschers are strong, durable dogs with good immunity. But not devoid of problems that are inherited. Their genetic diseases are a worrying factor for breeders and just owners. Dogs with poor heredity try not to allow breeding, but have not yet managed to completely eradicate a number of pathologies and susceptibility to certain diseases:

  • Von Willebrand disease,
  • Dysplasia of the hip and elbow joint,
  • Ophthalmologic diseases (cataract, corneal dysplasia),
  • Disruption of the digestive system (pancreatitis, enterocolitis),
  • Bursitis.

There are many other diseases, but most often they are caused by improper care, maintenance or nutrition of the dog, and therefore depend entirely on the owner. Standard pinscher needs routine vaccination and regular treatment from external and internal parasites. For breeders, the problem of clarified color is also important. Life expectancy is usually 13-15 years.

Choosing a puppy

When choosing a puppy of a German Pinscher, it is necessary to decide in advance on several important points: the desired color of the dog, gender, appearance and character. Some pinchers are more energetic and active, others are more adapted for living in an apartment, much calmer and friendlier. Of course, it will be difficult to read the character in a two-month-old puppy, especially since it depends a lot on the conditions in which the dog will be raised and how competently raised it is. In the matter of temperament is better to trust the breeder. And be sure to pay attention to the nature and habits of his dogs. Heredity is of great importance. As for appearance, the tails are stopped by puppies aged 3-5 days, because the desired length should always be discussed with the breeder in advance. Ears are trimmed after 3 months.

The presence of pedigree confirms the origin of puppies and allows you to track the relationship of parents. If we look at history, it is clear that all modern Pinschers come from a small group of dogs, and therefore are more or less related to each other. Further close interbreeding significantly increases the risk of hereditary diseases and pathologies.

When it comes time to choose a puppy from litter, you should pay attention to the conditions of dogs and the degree of their socialization. If a breeder has paid much attention to puppies and their upbringing before the age of two months, this increases the chance to raise a balanced, obedient dog. And of course the babies should be healthy. By behavior: active and inquisitive, not cowardly and not aggressive.

The average cost of a German Pinscher puppy in kennels is 35,000 rubles. Puppies without pedigree, but from parents with documents usually cost around 10,000–15,000 rubles. The price of a standard pinscher mestizo usually does not exceed 1000 rubles.

Description and characteristics of the German Pinscher

The German Pinscher began to work a long time ago, in the stables of medieval Germany. In the written documents of the beginning of the 15th century, brave and loyal dogs, guards and rat-catchers are respectfully remembered. The topic of rodent control in Europe at that time was very relevant. True, the name of the breed, which was familiar to us, appeared much later, and at first all rat-catcher dogs were called raters and used them strictly for the intended purpose.

The first profession of the German Pinscher - Pied Piper

Only in 1879, the old breed received official recognition and in the near future was divided into two large independent branches: smooth-haired pinschers and wire-haired schnauzers. So these official breeds, despite external dissimilarity, consist in the closest relationship.

Size matters

Both schnauzers and pinchers are presented in three sizes (giant, standard and miniature), formed into separate breeds. Schnauzers are well-known giants, mittelschnauzers and miniature schnauzers, while pinschers have Dobermans, German pinscher and miniature pinschers.

Pinchers, like schnauzers, have three different breed standards.

The German Pinscher is also called the standard (or middle) pincher, and the happy owners of dogs of this breed call them abbreviated - the cute word “Nemin”.

Roar, barking, mess - this is not a fight, this is Pinscher playing

The excellent working qualities of the German Pinscher stimulated dog handlers to expand the range of "official powers" of a wonderful dog. Breeding work went in two directions - both to reduce and to increase the size of the representatives of the breed. The history of the creation of the Doberman is especially interesting.

The Doberman Pinscher got its name at the end of the 19th century by the name of the worthy Herr Dobermann - the recently deceased creator of the breed. Karl Friedrich Louis Dobermann worked in everyday life as a tax inspector, and this service has always been both dangerous and difficult. The taxman felt that he was in dire need of an assistant - a formidable and absolutely reliable one. Is it possible to find a helper more devoted and incorruptible than a faithful dog? Not finding the breed completely suitable to him, Herr Dobermann undertook to create it himself and gave his brainchild the name "Thuringian Pinscher".

Doberman - the largest and most powerful among pinschers

To create a Doberman - a powerful and decisive bodyguard dog - blood of other breeds was added to the blood of the German Pinscher: Rottweiler, Shepherd Dog, Black and Tan Terrier. It is possible that the Great Danes, hounds and Greyhounds also participated in the “work” on the Doberman.

A miniature variety of pinscher appeared earlier than the giant one - about three centuries ago. For the extermination of all the same rats needed a dog with a full set of qualities of a pinscher, but smaller in size - so that she could make her way to the most secluded corners. According to some information, in order to fix the miniature dimensions of the pinscher, they were crossed with a black and tan terrier.

Miniature Pinscher is a small funny copy of a German Pinscher.

Choosing a puppy

In no case do not start the German Pinscher, if you:

  • not willing to give him enough time and attention,
  • you rely on the fact that you have already acquired a “ready” dog - educated and trained,
  • spontaneously buy a representative of this breed.

NEMPINA puppies are adorable - which one to choose?

But if NEMPIN is really your dog, congratulations: you are very lucky! This wonderful puppy will be able to fill your life with new colors, bright events. Next to him, you will definitely become younger and healthier, learn to look at the world with optimism.

Buy a baby only in a reputable nursery - responsible breeders will not allow risky matings, which could increase the risk of hereditary diseases in a puppy, raise it qualitatively and be sure to give the basics of education. The average cost of a two month old baby of this rare breed is about a thousand dollars.

A German Pinscher puppy must be healthy and well grown.

On the Internet and in the bird markets, you will be offered much more budgetary options for “puppies from unscheduled mating” or “half-breeds of pinscher”, but all this is nothing more than a mongrel with completely unpredictable genetics.

Breed standards

The three breeds of pinschers on the exterior are very similar to each other, they differ primarily in size and, of course, in their service purpose. The German Pinscher standard paints an image of a medium-sized dog (up to 50 cm at the withers, weighing 20 kg). The relatively modest size does not prevent him from being an effective working dog: a guard and a bodyguard.

German pinscher must be elegant and muscular

He has a strong, muscular body, very strong paws (especially the hind ones), thanks to which the dog is able not only to run perfectly - quickly and tirelessly, but also to jump from one spot to a height of one and a half meters.

Previously, all Pinschers stopped their tails and clipped their ears, and now they mostly leave

Standards of all Pinschers allow only two breeds of color: red in various shades and black and tan. At one time, Dobermans had a very popular brown and tan color, but there is no breed red Doberman.

According to the standard Doberman, its height can reach 72 cm, and weight - 45 kg. The same maximum parameters according to the miniature pincher standard: 30 cm and 6 kg.

Doberman and Miniature Pinscher are such different descendants of the standard pinscher

The combat past and many years of selective selection did not pass for the German Pinscher without a trace - in his character contradictory, seemingly, qualities harmoniously coexist:

  • emotion and calm,
  • friendliness and incredulity,
  • kindness and aggressiveness
  • controllability and waywardness
  • touchiness and cheerful disposition.

The German Pinscher is always attentively looking into the owner’s eyes and seems to be reading his thoughts.

At the same time, Nempin is very clever, inclined to draw his own conclusions from what is happening, to build up a strategy of behavior and tactics of relationships - in the way that benefits him. Such a dog should be wound only by a person with character, a soft and undemanding owner Nempin will surely sit on the neck.

In the apartment or in the yard?

Несмотря на своё богатое конюшенное прошлое, современные пинчеры живут преимущественно в городских квартирах. Конечно, этот активный пёс будет в восторге от частного дома с просторным участком — но именно от дома, а не от вольера или будки. And it's not just that short hair does not protect the dog from frost - the pinscher is too attached to the owner and wants to be near him.

Morning jogging with the hostess is happiness for your dog

Left alone at home, he is greatly bored, and if he was walking a little before, he could arrange bedlam in a dwelling. With proper maintenance and care of hair, Nemin is an ideal dog for a city apartment.

Video: Pinscher alone at home

Watching a hyperactive German pincher on a walk or space can be misleading to potential owners, but in the apartment these dogs behave quite differently.

Pinscher's explosive temperament is perfectly balanced by his “reinforced concrete” nervous system - the educated dog at home is absolutely calm and never barks just for shaking the air - just on business. Representatives of this breed get along well with all their neighbors: other dogs and cats, parrots and hamsters.

German pinscher is a typical sofa dog

Particularly indicative of the relationship of pinscher with children - dogs become for them the best playmates, and from the very young are ready to endure almost anything.

Nempina hair care does not pose any problems even for a newcomer to dog breeding. In a healthy dog, the coat fits snugly to the body, shines and shines like a varnished coat. This is the main indicator of proper nutrition and maintenance of your pet. It is necessary to bathe a dog in process of pollution, but more often it is enough just to wipe it with a damp cloth.

The main tool for combing a pinscher is a special hard mitten. It should be applied at least once a week, and better daily, it will save from the appearance of short hairs, spikes on the floor, clothes and upholstered furniture.

But hygienic care for ears, eyes and teeth should be regular - at least once a week, even if your dog doesn’t like it too much. An active pinscher usually grinds his claws himself during long walks, but it is also necessary to keep an eye on their length.

An energetic, very active dog requires an appropriate diet. If you make dry food as the basis of food for your pet, then choose only from proven, well-established premium-class brands, in the lineup of which there is food for active dogs - this will provide the German pinscher with a sufficient amount of calories and all necessary for excellent condition of the dog. components.

Give your pet only high-quality feed.

Even the highest quality drying does not eliminate the need to regularly feed the dog with useful natural foods: sour milk, vegetables, fruits, you can give a raw chicken egg once a week.

Balanced nutrition for the average Pinscher is very important. Do not risk feeding him a naturalka if you are not sure that you will be able to competently build a diet. Overfeeding and over-calorie feeding is dangerous for this dog, as it can lead to disorders of the digestive system, obesity and excessive stress on the heart.

Walking and dressura

To start raising a puppy should be from the moment when he learns to walk, and, perhaps, even earlier. The absolute obedience of this dog is the best basis for its comfortable coexistence with a person. High intelligence, focus on the person and excellent learning - all these qualities are peculiar to the German pinscher.

German Pinscher - a dog with character

But, despite the fact that it is really a working dog, it makes no sense to start it specifically for the purpose of protecting the house or protecting the owner - there are other breeds more suited to such functions. But training is obligatory even for Nempin's companion: system lessons will help him to realize the potential of the breed, to be in good physical shape and to behave more calmly at home, between walks.

Combine walks with training

Be prepared for the fact that for a dog of this breed are necessary:

  • at least two full-time walking lasting at least an hour,
  • early socialization from puppy age - communication with other people and dogs
  • Mandatory full course of obedience
  • active educational games and activities - in addition to the general course of training, sports training and competitions, as well as agility, are well suited.

Pregnancy and childbirth

The tribal fund of German Pinschers in Russia, unfortunately, is still small - the breed has been and remains rare. Competently choose the optimal parental pair is not easy. Therefore, breeders responsible for improving the breed build a breeding strategy in advance, calculating it for several future generations of offspring, and often travel to breeding abroad. This is a large, painstaking work requiring special knowledge and experience.

A German Pinscher's bitch is a good mother, she not only takes care of the puppies, but also brings them up

Pregnancy and childbirth in a bitch of a German Pinscher usually take place without complications, and in the time allotted by nature, about 60 days after being mated into the world, wonderful babies appear. On average, Nemin's litter may consist of 5-7 puppies.

Possible illnesses

In the breed, unfortunately, there are serious hereditary problems, including:

  • von Willebrand disease,
  • hip dysplasia
  • eye diseases.

The specific blood disease in Pinscher is associated with its poor clotting and is due to the insufficiency of the so-called von Willebrand factor. The disease can manifest itself in different ways, certain forms of it are dangerous to the life of the dog. A test for this genetic disease can be done at any age - albeit a newborn puppy. Even light stages of the disease require constant monitoring and treatment by a veterinarian.

Violations of the genetics of color, manifested in its clarification, are also prevented by testing both the parent couple and already born puppies. This genetic failure is not dangerous to health, but the dogs in which it is identified must be removed from breeding work.

German pinscher can be ginger or black and tan, everything else is a breed marriage

Uncomplicated clinical studies of the eyes for various diseases, including congenital ones, the pinscher should be held regularly from the age of one and a half months - the sooner the problem is identified, the easier it will be to get rid of it completely or at least stop its development.

Your pet is sad and refuses to eat - immediately contact the veterinarian

When choosing a puppy, ask the breeders for pedigree genetic tests of their parents and pictures for dysplasia. If such studies were allegedly not conducted, this should alert you - there is a high risk to acquire a sick dog.
